Range Rover is one of JLR’s four customer-facing brands, but JLR’s 1 June 2023 logo announcement introduced a new corporate identity for JLR—not a separately announced new Range Rover logo. The Land Rover heritage mark was also set to remain in use.
What JLR announced in 2023
On 1 June 2023, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced a new corporate identity alongside a shift to a “House of Brands” structure. The company said the change was intended to reduce ambiguity and bring forward the distinct character of its four customer-facing brands: Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar. JLR’s announcement described the new mark as an expression of elegance, modernity and refinement.
The distinction matters: the announcement was about JLR’s identity as a company and the way it presents its brand portfolio. It does not establish that Range Rover alone received a new logo at that time.
What “House of Brands” means for Range Rover
Under this structure, Range Rover is a distinct JLR brand alongside Defender, Discovery and Jaguar. JLR’s FY23/24 annual report also describes the business as a house of these four brands, with the aim of elevating each marque’s distinctive characteristics and status. JLR’s FY23/24 annual report sets out that framing.

Range Rover can refer to both a particular vehicle and a broader marque. Its official FAQ describes Range Rover as a vehicle in its own right and as the brand name for a portfolio that includes Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar and Range Rover Evoque.
Did Land Rover disappear?
No. JLR said the Land Rover heritage mark would remain integral and visible on vehicles, online platforms and retail sites, underpinning Range Rover, Defender and Discovery. The House of Brands approach elevated those marques; it did not mean Land Rover simply vanished.

What changed in JLR’s new corporate mark?
JLR presented the design as a corporate identity intended to convey elegance, modernity and a forward-looking outlook. The company said the descending “j” was meant to add elegance and the lighter emblem weight to communicate refinement and modernity. Those are JLR’s stated design intentions, not evidence of how customers responded to the identity.
JLR CEO Adrian Mardell called the reveal a new identity for the company as part of its House of Brands approach. Chief Creative Officer Professor Gerry McGovern described it as a unifier for the four distinct British brands. Both statements referred to JLR’s corporate identity, rather than announcing a separate Range Rover-only logo.

How to read the different names and marks
- JLR: The company’s corporate identity and umbrella for its four customer-facing brands.
- Range Rover: One of those brands, and also the name of a specific vehicle within its wider model portfolio.
- Land Rover heritage mark: A mark JLR said would continue to appear and underpin Range Rover, Defender and Discovery.
So, the accurate takeaway from the 2023 reveal is that Range Rover was being presented as one of JLR’s distinct brands—not that the announcement itself launched a new logo exclusively for Range Rover.
