What Porsche has said about an electric 911
At Porsche’s June 23, 2026 Annual General Meeting, CEO Michael Leiters said the specially developed performance-hybrid powertrain is a fundamental building block for the 911’s future, adding: “Because there will be no fully electric 911.” Porsche’s AGM statement is the clearest current answer to whether the company is making a battery-electric 911.
This is Porsche’s stated position as of October 8, 2026, not a guarantee that the company will never change course. But there is no announced 911 EV program in the cited company material, and Porsche has not provided a launch date or specifications for one.
What the 911’s T-Hybrid system actually is
Porsche has electrified some 911 models, but its T-Hybrid cars are not battery-electric vehicles. The 911 Carrera GTS and GTS Cabriolet configuration described by Porsche combines a combustion engine with electric assistance.

- Electric assistance: two electric motors, including an electric exhaust turbocharger and a motor integrated into the eight-speed PDK transmission.
Porsche’s overview also identifies 911 Turbo S variants with T-Hybrid technology. These details describe hybrid powertrains, not a battery-only 911. Where Porsche’s electric sports-car plans point instead
Porsche’s announced all-electric two-door sports-car program is the 718 Boxster and Cayman, not the 911. The company described the future 718 sports car as a battery-electric vehicle in its 2025 portfolio realignment. In its October 2026 strategy announcement, Porsche said the electric 718 models were expected to support sales in their first full production year in 2028. That is a 718 timeline, not a projected 911 EV launch date.

Because Porsche has not announced a fully electric 911, there are no confirmed 911 EV figures for battery size, driving range, charging speed, price, production timing, or market availability. Speculative renders, rumors, or the 718’s planned timing cannot establish those details.

For now, the useful distinction is straightforward: the 911’s documented electrification is hybrid, while Porsche’s announced electric sports cars belong to the 718 line. Any future change to the company’s position would need a new official announcement.
