The MG4 EV Urban shows the kind of value proposition that could interest American buyers; whether it can reach them at an affordable price depends on a confirmed entry plan, the car’s origin, U.S. readiness, and the import rules in force at the time.
Is MG coming back to America?
Not on the evidence currently available. No verified MG or SAIC announcement confirms a U.S. return, launch date, selected model, or American MSRP. That is not proof that no plan exists; it means a return should be treated as unconfirmed rather than as an announced event.
The distinction matters because MG’s current overseas products do not establish U.S. availability. The company’s Germany and Mexico listings show vehicles offered in those markets, not a commitment to sell them in America.
Will the MG4 EV be sold in the U.S.?
No U.S. sale has been verified. The MG4 is a plausible example of the sort of compact electric car that could fit the affordability discussion, but there is no confirmed U.S. model selection or certification information. It is also not established that the German MG4 EV Urban and the Mexican MG4 Electric are the same specification or that either would be the U.S. version.

What MG offers in Germany
MG Motor Deutschland announced the MG4 EV Urban for the German market on April 20, 2026, with a starting price of €24,990 and advertised range of up to 416 km. Those are German-market figures; the range claim is not an EPA rating, and the euro price is not a U.S. MSRP. MG Motor Deutschland’s announcement describes the car as an electric hatchback and gives the stated starting price.
What MG lists in Mexico
MG Motor México’s configurator lists 2025 MG4 Electric trims. Its listing displayed a special price from MXN 419,000 for the Style AT and a range figure of 350 km when accessed in 2026. These are Mexico-specific figures, and the displayed promotion and prices can change. They do not establish a U.S. price or a U.S.-market range rating. Check the Mexico configurator for the listing and any current changes.

How much would an MG4 cost in the U.S.?
There is no verified U.S. price to quote. The German starting price and Mexican promotional price cannot be converted into a dependable American MSRP: market equipment, taxes, shipping, vehicle origin, compliance work, dealer support, and applicable import treatment may differ. A currency conversion would produce only a rough exchange-rate equivalent, not what a U.S. buyer would pay.
For a credible affordability comparison, buyers would need a confirmed U.S. trim and transaction price alongside its included equipment, EPA-rated range, charging capability, warranty, and service coverage. None of those U.S.-specific details is established for an MG4 launch.

What could keep an affordable MG EV from reaching U.S. buyers?
Import rules depend on the vehicle and its origin
In 2024, the Office of the United States Trade Representative announced an increase in the Section 301 tariff rate on electric vehicles from China from 25% to 100%. That is a specific policy action, not a complete estimate of the duties or landed cost for a hypothetical MG. The vehicle’s country of origin and the rules in force when it is imported would matter; the treatment of a hypothetical locally assembled MG cannot be inferred from that announcement. USTR’s 2024 announcement explains the action, while its tariff-actions index reflects subsequent actions. Current treatment must be checked against the applicable rules, rather than assumed from the 2024 announcement alone.
U.S. launch readiness involves more than shipping a car
A real launch would need a confirmed vehicle and sourcing plan, U.S.-specific regulatory readiness, pricing, warranty terms, and a way to support owners through service and parts. Those details are not established by overseas configurators. Without them, a low overseas sticker price cannot show whether an American version could be sold affordably or supported reliably.
