What Honda has confirmed about the S2000
The S2000 is a discontinued model, not a currently announced electric successor. Honda says the roadster debuted in 1999 and announced on January 27, 2009, that production for all regions would end by the end of June that year. Honda’s production announcement does not announce a replacement.
Where the electric S2000 rumor came from
In October 2023, Carscoops described reports suggesting Honda might revive the S2000 as an electric sports car. The outlet presented the proposed connection and technical details as rumor, not as a Honda product announcement. Carscoops’ report therefore supports the existence of speculation, not confirmation that Honda was developing the car.
Rumored features are not verified specifications
The same coverage mentioned Honda’s e:N architecture, a rear-mounted motor and a possible Type R variant. None of those details is established as a specification for an electric S2000. Without a Honda announcement, they should not be treated as a confirmed platform, layout or trim.

What Honda showed instead in 2023
At the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023, Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe unveiled a Prelude concept, according to Carscoops. That was Honda’s actual reveal amid the S2000 speculation. Carscoops interpreted the concept as appearing likely to reach production, but that interpretation is not itself a Honda production announcement.
The distinction matters: a rumored S2000 revival and the Prelude concept are separate stories. The concept’s unveiling does not confirm an electric S2000, nor does the rumor establish that Honda had announced a new S2000 model.

What Honda’s 2026 EV announcement means
On March 12, 2026, Honda announced that it had decided to cancel development and market launch of three EV models planned for production in North America, as part of a reassessment of its automobile electrification strategy. Honda’s announcement does not name those models as S2000s or refer to an electric S2000.
That change is relevant context for Honda’s EV plans, but it does not establish whether the company has privately considered or will someday build an electric roadster. Honda has not confirmed an electric S2000 in the cited public announcements and reporting.
