Chevrolet Bolt production is expected to end sometime in 2027, according to secondary automotive reporting—but General Motors has not announced a precise final production date or a unit target. GM’s official description is that the returning 2027 Bolt is a limited-run model. The company confirmed in May 2026 that production was underway at Fairfax Assembly in Kansas City, Kansas.
What GM has—and has not—said about the Bolt’s end date
GM has framed the Bolt’s return as temporary. In its October 2025 announcement, Chevrolet vice president Scott Bell said the car would return “for a limited time.” That establishes GM’s limited-run positioning, but it is not a specific commitment to end production in 2027.
GM Authority reported that the run was expected to last about 18 months before Fairfax shifted to other products. That is a reported expectation, not an official GM production deadline. GM’s public material reviewed here does not give a final Bolt build date or a planned production quantity.
Chevrolet Bolt production timeline
- December 2023: GM says production of the previous Bolt ended.
- June 10, 2025: GM said Fairfax Assembly was on track to begin building the 2027 Bolt by the end of 2025.
- July 29, 2025: GM announced the Bolt’s return for model year 2027.
- October 2025: GM described the returning Bolt as a limited-run model and said shipments would begin in early 2026.
- May 13, 2026: GM said Bolt production was underway at Fairfax, using a batch-build process.
Why the run is expected to be short
Fairfax’s announced product plans provide context for the short-run expectation. GM said the plant was preparing to assemble the Chevrolet Equinox in 2027, followed by a new Buick compact SUV. These plans point to a transition at the factory, but GM has not published a final day for Bolt production. The plant schedule alone does not establish exactly when the last Bolt will be built.

What the 2027 Bolt offers
The short-run status may matter to shoppers, but the vehicle’s final specifications also help clarify what is returning. Chevrolet lists an EPA-estimated 262-mile range and a 65 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The single-motor system is rated at 210 hp, and the car has a native NACS charge port.
- DC fast charging: Up to 150 kW; GM estimates a 10%–80% charge in 25 minutes. Actual times vary with conditions.
- Home charging: GM lists about 27 miles of range per hour at 240 V with the dual-level charge cord. Its approximately 40-miles-per-hour figure at 240 V / 11.5 kW requires a professionally installed 60A dedicated charging station, sold separately.
- Vehicle-to-home power: Requires a GM Energy Home System and a properly equipped home; the car alone is not a whole-home backup system.
- Battery warranty: GM lists coverage for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, subject to limited-warranty terms.
These are GM’s final published specifications; the 262-mile figure is EPA-estimated. Charging speed and range can vary with battery temperature, state of charge, equipment, settings, and other conditions.

What a 2027 end date means for shoppers
A limited run can make availability more time-sensitive than for a model with a confirmed ongoing production plan. But without an official final date or build quantity, shoppers cannot infer how many Bolts will be available or when dealers will stop receiving them. For current availability, check Chevrolet’s listings and local dealers rather than treating 2027 as a guaranteed cutoff date.
If you are considering home charging, check the requirements for the charging setup you want before buying equipment. In particular, the 11.5 kW setup calls for a separate, professionally installed 60A station, so the home’s electrical service and installation needs matter.
