Neonet Marine currently lists the model as an INSTABOAT folding aluminium boat. The available sources describe a compact craft intended to be carried and assembled, but it is still 3.30 m long when open and weighs 38 kg, so it is not a lightweight one-person carry for everyone.

New Atlas reported somewhat different folded dimensions in its article of May 11, 2009: 3.45 m long, 16 cm wide and 38 cm deep. It also gave a payload capacity of 245 kg. Those are historical publication claims; they should not be combined with Neonet Marine’s figures as though they were one definitive specification. The available current listing does not state a payload rating, so confirm the applicable capacity documentation for the specific boat before loading it.

How much does the Instaboat Fisherman weigh?
Neonet Marine lists it at 38 kg, and New Atlas also reported 38 kg in 2009. The combined published figures support that quoted weight, but neither source provides an independent weighing or clarifies whether accessories are included.
Is the Instaboat Fisherman still made?
Current global production status is not established. Neonet Marine’s Japanese product page lists a tax-included price of ¥217,800 but marks the boat sold out. A US dealer page says its Instaboat products are out of production and no longer available from that dealer; a UK used listing from 2019 also said the boat was no longer manufactured. These seller statements make new availability doubtful, but do not prove that every market has no remaining stock.

How long does it take to set up?
The published setup claims conflict. Neonet Marine says assembly takes about seven minutes and requires no special tools; New Atlas reported two minutes in 2009. Neither source gives a repeatable test method, so there is no established setup time. Ask to see the exact boat assembled and folded, and confirm which components and tools are needed before relying on it for transport or launch plans.

What motor can you use on an Instaboat Fisherman?
Neonet Marine lists a maximum power of 1.5 kW (2 hp) and an S transom for this model. Do not treat descriptions of other Instaboat listings as permission to fit a more powerful motor: a UK used listing described an 11-foot Instaboat as suitable for rowing, paddling or a small motor, but that is not Fisherman-specific operating guidance. Check the boat’s own rating plate and original documentation, and make sure any motor and mounting arrangement match them.

Neonet Marine describes neoprene joints between aluminium panels and says buoyancy elements are fitted at the sides and beneath the seats. It claims the hull will not sink if flooded; New Atlas also called it “unsinkable.” Those are retailer and publication claims, not independent safety-test results or certification. No independent product test or safety certification is established by the available sources, so do not rely on those descriptions as a substitute for suitable flotation equipment, safe loading or local boating rules.

New Atlas author Mike Hanlon wrote in 2009: “The Fisherman aluminum folding canoe is sold with a 5-year warranty and is very convenient for portage.” The five-year warranty refers to what the article reported at the time; current warranty coverage is not established.
What should a used-boat buyer check?
Because current production and original support are uncertain, compare the particular boat and its practical ownership requirements rather than relying on a product description alone.
- Dimensions and transport: Measure the folded boat and confirm its 38 kg listed weight is manageable for the people who will carry it. Check that the folded length fits your vehicle and storage space.
- Capacity: Verify the specific hull’s permitted occupants and payload from its markings or original documentation. Neonet Marine lists two people; New Atlas’s 245 kg payload figure is a 2009 report, not a confirmed current rating.
- Condition: Inspect the aluminium panels, neoprene joints, folding connections, seats, transom and stated buoyancy components. Ask for a demonstration of assembly and folding.
- Motor fit: Confirm the model-specific 2 hp maximum and S transom against the boat itself before buying or fitting a motor.
- Support: Ask whether parts, repair expertise and documentation are actually available for the boat being sold; a current replacement-parts route is not established by the available sources.
- Safety equipment: The sources do not say lifejackets are included. Select correctly fitting lifejackets and check the boating requirements that apply where the boat will be used.
