Is the Airbus H225 really the world’s most expensive helicopter? The available price evidence does not establish that ranking. A 2022 trade-publication article reported historical figures for a 2016 aircraft, but there is no current official Airbus price or comparable global price survey in the cited sources. What is clear is that the H225 is a civil heavy twin-engine helicopter built for demanding work, including offshore transport, search and rescue, and heavy-lift operations.
What the Airbus H225 is
The H225 is Airbus’s civil heavy twin-engine helicopter in the Super Puma family. It is intended for passenger transport and work requiring substantial lifting capacity, and its equipment and cabin layout can be adapted to the mission. It is distinct from the military H225M: the two share the family name, but the H225M serves military missions and should not be treated as the same configuration.
Airbus lists two Safran Helicopter Makila 2A1 engines, each rated at 1,567 kW (2,101 shp) takeoff power. The company’s published technical figures describe the aircraft, not a guarantee of performance in every configuration or operating condition. Airbus H225 technical information
H225 specifications
These are Airbus’s published figures for the civil H225. Range, endurance, speed, and payload depend on fuel, equipment, mission setup, and operating conditions; the stated range figures include their fuel-tank and altitude conditions.

Airbus lists a capacity of one or two pilots plus up to 19 passengers. Its passenger and mission layouts are alternatives, not seats and specialist equipment that can all be assumed to fit on the same flight: the company shows a 19-seat offshore transport layout, an 11-seat VIP layout, and an eight-seat search-and-rescue layout.
What missions the H225 performs
The H225’s role changes with its cabin and mission equipment. Airbus lists offshore energy transport, search and rescue (SAR), aerial work, firefighting, and VIP or government transport among its uses. Airbus H225 missions

Offshore energy transport
For offshore work, Airbus describes an air-conditioned cabin for up to 19 passengers, heavy-lift capability, and Rig ’N Fly, an automatic rig-approach mode. The aircraft can also be reconfigured for over-water SAR. Passenger capacity in a transport layout should not be read as a promise that the helicopter carries the same number of people alongside every mission-specific installation.
Search and rescue
Airbus describes features including search patterns, automatic transition to hover, and cabin-crew hover control. Optional equipment can include searchlights, radar, a direction finder, dual hoists, and stretchers. Airbus says the H225 and military H225M have been selected and operated by 22 countries for SAR missions; this is the manufacturer’s figure, not an independent country-by-country dataset.
Rank #3
- Model kit contain 75 pieces
- Model kits are designed for children aged 10 years and upwards
- After built it measures 14. 3 cm in length
Aerial work and firefighting
Airbus lists powerline repair, pylon assembly, cable laying, aerial pruning, and air-crane work among H225 aerial-work missions. For firefighting, it describes belly tanks, belly water cannons, and water-bombing kits. The manufacturer’s maximum sling-load figure is 4,750 kg, but actual lift capacity depends on the aircraft configuration and operating conditions.
VIP and government transport
Airbus shows an 11-passenger VIP layout. That is a different cabin configuration from the 19-seat offshore and eight-seat SAR layouts; the appropriate choice depends on the mission and installed equipment.

What is known about the H225’s price
A 2022 Business Jet Traveler article reported a new retail price above $23 million for a 2016 H225 and also listed an $8 million figure for a 2016 aircraft. Those are historical secondary-market reference figures reported by the publication—not a current Airbus quotation, not necessarily like-for-like aircraft prices, and not proof of a global price ranking. Business Jet Traveler: “Airbus Super Puma”
The available sources do not provide an official current H225 price, comparable prices for other helicopter models, or a ranking establishing that it is the world’s most expensive helicopter. Purchase cost can vary with aircraft year, equipment, mission configuration, support, and contract terms, but the cited sources do not quantify those components. The defensible description is that the H225 is a high-value heavy-lift helicopter; the superlative remains unverified.

Recent H225 orders and fleet figures
On 7 April 2026, Airbus announced that Vietnam Helicopter Corporation subsidiaries had ordered three H225s to support expanding offshore energy operations and progressively replace ageing aircraft. Airbus said the new helicopters would join VNH’s existing Airbus fleet for offshore transport, utility, search-and-rescue, and broader transport work. These are details from the manufacturer’s announcement, rather than independent confirmation of the contract terms. Airbus: VNH orders H225 for offshore operations
In that same 7 April 2026 release, Airbus reported that more than 360 H225 and H225M helicopters were in service worldwide and that the fleet had accumulated more than one million flight hours. The figures combine the civil and military variants and are Airbus’s dated fleet reporting; they are not a civil-H225-only total. The release also quoted Airbus Helicopters CEO Matthieu Louvot describing the H225’s reliability and performance in offshore operations. That is a manufacturer executive’s promotional statement, not an independent reliability assessment.
