Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India and Mahindra & Mahindra are preparing for India’s 2026 festive buying season by increasing production or building dealer inventory. Their reported figures describe different parts of the supply chain—not an industry-wide sales forecast or a guarantee that any particular model is available immediately.
What the reported figures show
Moneycontrol/PTI reported on October 4, 2026, that automakers were working to fulfil existing bookings and make more vehicles available through the festive period, which includes Navratri, Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali. The company figures below were reported at that time; they are not independently audited production or retail data. Moneycontrol/PTI’s report covers Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai Motor India and Mahindra & Mahindra.

How each company is trying to improve supply
Maruti Suzuki: add capacity while managing the backlog
Senior Executive Officer Partho Banerjee said Maruti had 2.2 lakh pending bookings, which he described as 16 days of stock before the festive season. He also said the company had 12 days of stock at the start of the financial year. The comparison is between company-reported stock measures at two different points in time; it does not show how quickly a particular booking will be delivered.

Maruti had commissioned two new production lines with a combined five lakh units of added capacity. Banerjee said output was being ramped up gradually and the lines were expected to stabilise fully by year-end. The company said it was calibrating production and supply across models to avoid disproportionately increasing individual model waiting periods. It might also introduce special schemes for customers with pending bookings because of supply constraints.
Hyundai: build stock across the dealer network
Hyundai Motor India reported four to five weeks of inventory across its dealer network. Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg said the company was balancing existing bookings with stock availability to support retail conversions. The reported inventory period is not a model-by-model stock list, so it cannot establish what a nearby dealer has ready for delivery.

Mahindra: expand monthly SUV and EV capacity
Mahindra & Mahindra Automotive Division CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta said the company had scaled SUV and EV manufacturing capacity to 68,000 units per month over the first half of the year. He said the increase improved supply responsiveness and reduced waiting periods while bookings remained healthy. The figure refers to monthly manufacturing capacity for those vehicle categories, not the number of units held at dealerships.
Why the figures cannot be compared directly
The measures use different units and describe different stages between factory output and customer delivery. Maruti’s days-of-stock statement is linked to its booking pendency; its five-lakh figure is added capacity across two lines. Hyundai’s figure is expressed in weeks of dealer inventory. Mahindra’s is monthly capacity for SUVs and EVs. Treating them as a single ranking of which brand has the most cars available would be misleading.

More capacity or network inventory can help a company respond to demand, but neither establishes immediate availability for every model, variant or location. The report does not provide model-level stock, a buyer-specific delivery date or an industry-wide sales forecast.

For an individual purchase, ask the dealer about the exact model, variant and colour rather than relying on a company-wide inventory or capacity figure. Confirm whether the quoted vehicle is physically available, whether it is allocated to an existing booking, and the expected delivery window for a new booking. Ask how that estimate could change during the festive period; waiting times may shift as production, dealer stock and bookings change.
