In the United States, Hyundai’s headline 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty applies to the original owner. For a subsequent owner, Hyundai’s 2026 warranty summary lists 5 years/60,000 miles, measured from the vehicle’s original in-service date—not from the date it is sold. Other coverage, including the New Vehicle Limited Warranty and hybrid or EV component coverage, has its own terms and eligibility rules.

Hyundai warranty coverage at a glance

Hyundai USA’s warranty overview and 2026 owner-handbook summary list several distinct protections. They are limited warranties, not a promise that every repair is covered. The time or mileage limit that comes first applies, and exclusions and the warranty document for the specific vehicle control.

Coverage Published period Key qualification
New Vehicle Limited Warranty 5 years/60,000 miles Hyundai USA’s 2026 summary; consult the applicable handbook for covered items and exclusions.
Powertrain Limited Warranty 10 years/100,000 miles for the original owner; 5 years/60,000 miles for subsequent owners Hyundai USA’s 2026 summary. The shorter subsequent-owner term is measured from the original in-service date.
Anti-perforation 7 years/unlimited mileage Hyundai USA’s 2026 summary; see the handbook for covered corrosion and exclusions.
Roadside assistance 5 years/unlimited mileage Hyundai USA’s 2026 summary; service conditions apply.
Replacement parts 1 year/12,000 miles Hyundai USA’s 2026 handbook summary. Public overview wording may differ; check the applicable written terms.
Accessories 1 year/unlimited mileage Hyundai USA’s 2026 handbook summary; a separate written accessory warranty may apply.
Hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and EV direct-energy components 10 years/100,000 miles Hyundai USA’s 2026 handbook summary; component, eligibility, and handbook limitations matter.

Federal and California emissions warranties are separate categories with their own terms. The table is a high-level summary, not a substitute for the warranty booklet tied to a vehicle’s model year and configuration. Hyundai USA’s warranty overview and the applicable owner’s handbook provide the controlling detail.

Does Hyundai’s 10-year warranty transfer to the second owner?

Not on the same terms. Hyundai says the 10-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty is for the original owner; when the vehicle is sold, powertrain coverage is reduced to 5 years/60,000 miles. The clock begins on the original in-service date, so resale does not start a new five-year period or reset the mileage allowance. Any remaining time and mileage depend on the vehicle’s age and odometer.

Hyundai’s help-center guidance says other warranty provisions, including roadside assistance, remain unchanged for subsequent owners, but each has its own expiration date and conditions. Do not assume every warranty transfers identically: confirm the specific provision and eligibility for the vehicle.

How to check coverage on a used Hyundai

  1. Get the VIN, current mileage, and original in-service date. Ask for title and registration history when relevant to eligibility.
  2. Identify the model year and the specific coverage you want to verify, such as powertrain, roadside assistance, or a hybrid/EV component.
  3. Ask a Hyundai dealer or Hyundai customer support to check the current warranty record and explain the remaining term and applicable exclusions.
  4. Before relying on coverage for a repair, request confirmation in writing and compare it with the applicable warranty booklet.

What does Hyundai’s 5-year/60,000-mile warranty cover?

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty is Hyundai USA’s headline coverage for new vehicles, listed at 5 years/60,000 miles in its 2026 summary. “Limited” matters: the term does not mean every component, repair, or cause of failure is covered. The applicable model-year handbook defines covered parts, exclusions, claim conditions, and any separate coverage that may apply.

Do not confuse this warranty with the powertrain warranty. Powertrain coverage has a different owner-dependent term, while anti-perforation, roadside assistance, parts, accessories, and emissions coverage each have separate provisions. For a particular repair, identify the failed component and have Hyundai check it against the vehicle’s specific warranty record and booklet.

Is the Hyundai hybrid or EV battery covered for 10 years?

Hyundai’s 2026 handbook summary lists 10 years/100,000 miles for direct-energy components in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles. Hyundai’s model-page description of the Hybrid/Electric Limited Battery Warranty says it covers defects in factory workmanship or materials, subject to eligibility and handbook limitations. This is not a blanket promise that every high-voltage system repair or any change in battery capacity is covered.

Check the exact vehicle, model year, component, and warranty section. For example, the reviewed Santa Fe Hybrid page says its cited battery coverage does not apply to lease and commercial vehicles or vehicles serviced or registered outside the U.S. That statement is specific to the reviewed model-page terms; do not apply it to every Hyundai without checking the relevant handbook.

What is different about a Hyundai Certified Used Vehicle warranty?

Hyundai Certified Used Vehicle (CPO) coverage is governed by separate written provisions, not simply by the headline terms for a new Hyundai. The reviewed CPO provisions identify covered powertrain components, including engine and transmission/transaxle items, and exclude items not specifically listed. They specify a $50 deductible per covered repair visit; the deductible is waived if the same covered component previously repaired under that provision fails again.

Those details describe the cited CPO provisions, not every used Hyundai or every model-year program. Check the buyer’s CPO paperwork for the covered components, remaining term, exclusions, deductible, and claim requirements before comparing a CPO vehicle with an ordinary used one.

  • Hybrid/EV provisions: confirm whether the vehicle’s specific component and use qualify under the applicable direct-energy or battery warranty.
  • Optional protection: compare a Vehicle Service Contract separately from factory or CPO coverage, and check availability and terms for the buyer and vehicle. It may overlap with protection already in force.

Where to verify the exact terms

Use Hyundai USA’s warranty overview for a starting point, then consult the owner’s handbook for the vehicle’s model year and any separate written CPO or accessory warranty. A dealer or Hyundai customer support can check the VIN-based warranty record; for a purchase or repair decision, ask for the applicable coverage and remaining term in writing.
