Hyundai unveiled the IONIQ 9 on November 20, 2024, as its first three-row all-electric SUV. The company called it the largest vehicle class in its IONIQ lineup; that is Hyundai’s positioning, not an independently verified comparison of every Hyundai EV. The reveal focused on a cabin for up to seven, a 110.3 kWh battery and market-dependent seating features.
When did Hyundai reveal the IONIQ 9?
Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the IONIQ 9 in Los Angeles and Seoul on November 20, 2024. A teaser published October 30 had previewed a three-row electric SUV ahead of the full reveal. Hyundai described the IONIQ 9 as the largest vehicle class in its IONIQ naming system; the announcement does not establish that it is the biggest Hyundai EV by every possible measure.
Hyundai’s November 2024 announcement said sales were planned in Korea and the United States in the first half of 2025, followed by Europe and other markets. That was the launch plan at the time, not confirmation of current availability, dealer stock or pricing.
How big is the Hyundai IONIQ 9, and how many seats does it have?
The IONIQ 9 is a three-row SUV designed to accommodate up to seven occupants. Hyundai highlighted a flat floor, relaxation seats and a sliding Universal Island 2.0 center console. It also described swiveling seats for selected markets. These are manufacturer-stated features, and seating configurations and equipment can vary by country and trim.

What battery, range and performance did Hyundai announce?
Hyundai specified a 110.3 kWh battery. Range figures depend on configuration and test cycle, so they should not be treated as a universal estimate of real-world distance.

The WLTP and EPA figures use different test cycles and should not be directly compared as though they were measured under identical conditions. Hyundai labels these range values as projected; they are not independent real-world test results.

How long does the IONIQ 9 take to charge?
Hyundai said the IONIQ 9 can charge from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes when connected to a 350 kW charger under optimal conditions. This is a manufacturer-stated charging time, not a guaranteed everyday result; actual charging depends on conditions and can vary by market. The company also highlighted 400V/800V multi-charging capability and vehicle-to-load (V2L).

The announcement and specifications cited here do not include an independent comparison establishing that it is the biggest Hyundai EV across all models, markets and model years. Its significance in the reveal is clear: Hyundai introduced a large, three-row electric SUV as an expansion of the IONIQ range.
