If your Nexo is affected, park it outdoors and away from structures until an authorized Hyundai dealer completes the free TPRD replacement. Coverage is VIN-specific, so check your vehicle rather than relying on its model year alone.
What is the Hyundai Nexo Recall 269 issue?
The recall concerns the TPRD, a device designed to vent hydrogen if the area around the tank overheats, helping prevent tank over-pressurization. Hyundai says microcracks in the device’s glass bulb can cause it to fracture prematurely, releasing hydrogen during normal operation. This is a potential failure of the TPRD; it does not mean every recalled Nexo has a leaking tank.
Hyundai’s recall guidance says hydrogen leaking in a confined area where an ignition source is present may increase the risk of a vehicle fire while parked. The stated risk is conditional, not a claim that a fire is certain.
Which Nexo vehicles are covered?
Recall 269 applies to certain 2019–2024 model-year Hyundai Nexo vehicles produced from August 10, 2018, through August 25, 2023. The word “certain” is important: a matching model year or production period alone does not confirm that an individual vehicle is included. Check the VIN using Hyundai’s recall campaign lookup or the NHTSA recall lookup.

What should owners do now?
- Check the VIN. Use Hyundai’s recall lookup or NHTSA’s VIN-based tool to confirm whether Recall 269 applies to your Nexo.
- If affected, contact an authorized Hyundai dealer. Ask about scheduling the Recall 269 repair. Hyundai says the remedy is available and the TPRD replacement is free.
- Park outdoors and away from structures until the repair is complete. This is Hyundai’s interim instruction in its recall notices.
- Do not substitute a DIY repair or aftermarket product. The specified remedy is dealer replacement of the TPRD; the recall instructions do not identify a detector or other product as a substitute.
Is the remedy available, and what does it involve?
Yes. Hyundai’s later owner notice for campaign 24V-761 says an authorized Hyundai dealer will replace the TPRD at no charge. Hyundai’s October 14, 2024 dealer guidance said the remedy was still being developed at that time; that earlier status was superseded by the later owner notice stating that the repair is available. The available owner notice does not provide a publication date, so no precise remedy-release date is established here.
How Recall 269 differs from the earlier Nexo sensor recall
Recall 269 is not the same as Hyundai Safety Recall 225, NHTSA campaign 22V-258. Recall 225 covered certain 2019–2021 Nexo vehicles and concerned hydrogen gas detection sensors that could fail to detect a leak. Hyundai said dealers would replace all three sensors at no charge and advised outdoor parking until that repair. Recall 269 instead concerns possible premature fracture of the TPRD’s glass bulb, and its remedy is TPRD replacement.

What was reported about the scale and incidents?
On October 17, 2024, the Associated Press reported that the recall involved nearly 1,600 Nexo vehicles in the United States and Canada. That is a historical estimate of the recall’s scale, not the number still awaiting repair in 2026.
Hyundai’s October 2024 FAQ said that, as of October 11, 2024, it was not aware of confirmed crashes, injuries, fires, or incidents tied to the condition in the United States or Canada. The AP separately reported Hyundai had no reports of fires globally at that time. These are dated company statements and do not establish a current incident count.
