Hyundai’s planned large electric SUV once widely associated with the name IONIQ 7 was revealed as the production IONIQ 9. Hyundai first used that name in its October 2024 teaser, then unveiled the three-row electric SUV in November. The confirmed vehicle has a 110.3-kWh battery and is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform; its range and equipment vary by configuration and market.
What happened to the Hyundai IONIQ 7?
Hyundai did not unveil a production vehicle called the IONIQ 7. In its October 30, 2024 announcement, the company named its upcoming three-row electric SUV the IONIQ 9. Hyundai said the “9” denotes the large-vehicle class in the IONIQ lineup. The production model followed at a November 20, 2024 reveal.
That means IONIQ 7 is best understood as the earlier name associated with the anticipated SUV, not the production model’s confirmed name. Specifications attached to early concept material or reporting should not be treated as final IONIQ 9 specifications.
What has Hyundai confirmed about the IONIQ 9?
Hyundai describes the IONIQ 9 as a three-row, all-electric SUV on its Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The company’s production reveal lists these core specifications:

Hyundai’s chief executive Jaehoon Chang said at the reveal that the vehicle was designed to combine E-GMP with interior space. That is the company’s stated positioning; it is not an independent assessment of cabin practicality.
How far can the Hyundai IONIQ 9 go?
Hyundai has published range figures under two different test cycles, which should not be treated as directly interchangeable:

These are manufacturer estimates for stated configurations and test cycles, not a single global range guarantee or an independent real-world result. For a purchase decision, use the rating for the exact trim, wheels and market being considered.
How fast does the IONIQ 9 charge?
Hyundai says the IONIQ 9 supports 800V ultra-fast charging and can charge from 10% to 80% in about 24 minutes under the conditions specified in its March 2025 announcement. Charging time depends on the charger and conditions; the figure is not a promise for every charging session.

Hyundai Motor America’s US model page search result for the 2026 IONIQ 9 specifies a 350-kW 800V charger and an included CCS adapter. Equipment and connector details can differ outside the United States, so check the current local vehicle page and charging compatibility for the market where the vehicle will be sold.

Hyundai describes the IONIQ 9 as seating up to seven. The March 2025 announcement also highlights comfort and interior features, but seating layouts and feature availability vary by market and trim. Do not assume every configuration or comfort feature is standard in every country; confirm the specific vehicle’s equipment list.

When did the IONIQ 9 go on sale?
Hyundai’s original November 2024 rollout plan named Korea and the United States for the first half of 2025, with Europe and other markets to follow. In its March 5, 2025 announcement, Hyundai said the model was on sale in Korea and planned for launch in the United States and Canada in the first half of 2025. These were dated rollout statements, not a guarantee of present-day availability.
Hyundai Motor America’s official US lineup currently identifies a 2026 IONIQ 9. Prices, inventory, trim availability, incentives and delivery timing are market- and date-sensitive; check the relevant country’s Hyundai site or a local dealer for current details.

The published figures establish Hyundai’s announced platform, dimensions, battery energy, configurations, estimated range and charging claims. They do not by themselves establish independent real-world range, charging performance in every condition, or how usable the third row and cargo area will be for a particular family. For a comparison with another three-row EV, compare the same market and model year, and check the same test cycle, seating configuration, cargo space with seats in use, price, warranty and standard equipment.
