Hyundai INSTEROID is a gaming-inspired electric-car design concept based on the production INSTER—not a retail model announced for sale. Revealed in Seoul on April 1, 2025, it reimagines the small EV with a widened, extended body, track-themed aero and a cockpit built around playful, game-like features.
What is the Hyundai INSTEROID?
Hyundai describes INSTEROID as a show car and design concept built on the production INSTER. Its name combines “INSTER” and “STEROID,” according to the company’s March 25, 2025 teaser. Hyundai’s stated aim was to use the concept to spark interest in the INSTER; the reveal did not announce a production plan for INSTEROID.
The concept was publicly displayed at the Seoul Mobility Show from April 3 to April 13, 2025. Those dates have passed and are not a current viewing opportunity. Hyundai gave the project the motto “Build it, play it, break it, repeat.”
How does INSTEROID differ from the production INSTER?
Hyundai transforms the INSTER’s basic identity into a much wider, extended show-car design, with details intended to evoke a track-focused machine. The company’s March teaser specifies 21-inch wheels.

- Cockpit: bucket seats, a roll cage and a specialized instrument cluster give the interior a stripped-down, motorsport-inspired appearance.
These are concept-car design details, not specifications for the production INSTER. Hyundai did not publish INSTEROID-specific figures for motor output, battery capacity, range, price, lap times or measured aerodynamic performance in the reveal.
What features are planned for the interior?
Hyundai’s feature list includes Drift Mode, the Beat House sound system and a Message Grid. The announcement names these concept features but does not provide independent performance testing or technical specifications for them.

Hyundai announced several gaming activations, but those announcements do not establish that every game is currently available or accessible on every platform.

- Browser time-attack game: In April 2025, Hyundai said it planned to offer a company-developed time-attack game through a browser, without requiring an app download. The announcement described the intended release, not verified current availability.
- Kartrider Rush+: Hyundai said an INSTEROID Kart was planned for a later release in the game. The reveal does not confirm its present availability.
- Japanese Drift Master: Hyundai later announced an INSTEROID collaboration with the drifting game, including an official online reveal on October 30. Its newsroom search result does not establish current access or platform availability.
For current access, check the relevant game’s own listing or Hyundai’s official channels. The announcements support describing these as planned or announced tie-ins, not promising that players can drive INSTEROID now.
Is Hyundai INSTEROID going into production?
Hyundai’s April 2025 reveal identifies INSTEROID as a concept car and does not announce a production version. The production INSTER is a separate vehicle; Hyundai said it was on sale in key markets at the time of the reveal. Do not treat the concept’s bodywork, cockpit features or gaming elements as available INSTER specifications.
