It therefore cannot support a personal comparison or six driving conclusions. Official owner manuals do offer useful, model-specific guidance: battery conditioning can help prepare an EV for winter driving or DC fast charging, but it uses energy and may reduce the distance available on the trip.
What winter battery conditioning does
Battery conditioning warms the high-voltage battery when conditions call for it. Hyundai’s US EV settings guidance says the function can be used in winter to maintain driving performance and shorten DC charging time; availability varies by model and specification. Hyundai’s EV settings manual also warns that preparing the battery for a DC charging stop can reduce driving range before arrival.
Hyundai’s EV menu manual describes winter mode as raising battery temperature in advance for scheduled charging or climate control. The manual says this may improve charging and driving performance, while using battery energy and potentially shortening drivable distance. Hyundai EV menu guidance notes that available options vary by vehicle.
For the IONIQ 5, the owner’s manual similarly recommends battery conditioning in winter to improve driving and DC charging performance, while cautioning that warming the battery can reduce driving distance. Hyundai IONIQ 5 owner’s manual

What the Kia EV6 manual says
The Kia source applies specifically to the MY25 EV6, not every Kia EV. Its manual says battery conditioning can raise a cold high-voltage battery to a suitable temperature for winter driving and DC charging, but may reduce driving distance. It also specifies that the function is available only on vehicles equipped with a battery heater. Kia EV6 MY25 electric vehicle guide
Why there is no reliable six-point brand comparison here
A fair account of winter performance needs the exact vehicles and comparable conditions. The available manuals explain features and trade-offs; they do not provide a quantified winter-range comparison between the unspecified Hyundai and Kia vehicles in the original title.

- Identify each model year, trim, and relevant equipment, including battery heater or heat-pump availability where documented.
- Record ambient temperature, precipitation, route length, and speed.
- Note starting battery state of charge, whether the vehicle was preconditioned, and cabin-heating settings.
- For range or efficiency claims, state the measurement method and the distance or energy actually observed.
- For charging comparisons, record arrival state of charge and charging time, and account for differences in charger and vehicle configuration.
Without those details—or the author’s actual notes—claims that one brand performed better, or a percentage for winter range loss, would be unsupported. The manuals provide qualitative warnings about energy use, not a comparable percentage for these unidentified cars.

Rank #4
- Widely Used: Applicable to a variety of vehicles, especially in cold regions. Keep the battery warm to maintain the available cold cranking current required during cold weather
- Thermostatic Control Technology: Just plug into 120V AC for 10-30 mins and this pad starts to works. Built-in Thermostat is set to Turn Itself off at 68°F ( + - 10 degrees), safe and reliable, ensuring that the temperature stays within the proper range
- High Performance: 60 watts of power, 120 volts, fast and even heating, ensuring normal startup in cold environments and preventing low temperatures from affecting device performance
- Strong Durability: Covered with silicone coating, it has excellent durability and flexibility to adapt to various complex environments. Long-term use is not easy to deformation or damage, long service life
- Easy to Use: Plug and play design, no need for complex tools or wiring modifications. Convenient to use, save time and effort
Rank #3
- Efficient Heating:Features built-in precision heating wires that quickly generate uniform heat, directly acting on the bottom of the battery to effectively enhance battery activity in low-temperature environments, ensuring stable cold start current and preventing vehicle start-up difficulties caused by severe cold weather.
- Constant Temperature:Built-in thermostat automatically cuts off power when the overall temperature reaches approximately 122°F, preventing overheating and potential battery damage. Temperature may rise briefly during the heating process due to rapid heat transfer, and requires 15-20 minutes of continuous heating for the most accurate temperature. Due to the difference in the distribution of the heating wire, there may be a slight temperature difference between different locations. The thermostat is constructed with secondary insulation, resulting in a delay in heat transfer.
- Safety Specifications:The silicone heating pad measures 8.2 inches × 5.5 inches. Its ultra-thin design allows it to seamlessly integrate into the bottom of most battery trays or battery boxes without occupying additional space. No modifications to the installation structure are required—simply place it and use it.
- Quality Material:The outer layer is made of high-quality orange silicone, which is soft, wear-resistant, and resistant to battery acid corrosion. It also has excellent insulation properties to prevent electrical leakage hazards and is suitable for a variety of complex working conditions.
- Easy Installation:Simply place it directly under the battery, connect it to a 120V AC power source, and it will start working. Be sure to unplug it promptly after use. Please note: This product is not suitable for lithium-ion batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, ABS battery cases, or insulated battery boxes.
How to use the guidance for your own EV
- Check the owner’s manual and the vehicle’s EV settings for the exact winter or battery-conditioning options available on your model and in your market.
- If planning a DC fast-charging stop, follow the vehicle’s instructions for battery preparation and allow for the manual’s warning that conditioning can affect range before arrival.
- Use the vehicle’s own range estimate and trip conditions to plan; the manuals cited here do not establish a universal winter-range reduction.
- For charging setup, verify your vehicle’s connector and equipment requirements. Hyundai’s manual discusses charging with a connected cable, but that alone does not establish that an extra cable is needed or which one fits.
