There is no single lifespan, replacement price, or warranty that applies to every hybrid SUV. Battery life depends on the vehicle and its condition; replacement cost depends on the repair and location; and warranty terms depend on the make, model year, component, and applicable coverage. If you are concerned about your battery, get a qualified diagnosis and a written estimate tied to your vehicle’s VIN before authorizing replacement.
How long does a hybrid SUV battery last?

Reliability survey data can offer context, but it cannot predict when an individual battery will fail. Consumer Reports tracks hybrid and electric battery replacement, malfunction, and cooling problems among its reliability trouble spots. Its reliability histories cover hundreds of makes and models from the 2000–2025 model years and some early 2026 models; the scores are not directly comparable across model years and do not establish battery life for your vehicle. How much does hybrid SUV battery replacement cost?
Mazda USA gives a broad replacement-cost estimate of $2,000–$8,000. That is manufacturer guidance, not a current installed quote for a specific SUV: it does not specify a vehicle, region, labor, whether the pack is new or remanufactured, diagnostic charges, or a guaranteed out-the-door total. Mazda USA’s explainer is a starting point, not a substitute for a VIN-specific estimate.

Ask the dealer and, where available, an independent hybrid specialist to itemize the proposed work. Compare the scope and warranty rather than just the headline price:
- Is the quote for a new, remanufactured, or repaired battery pack?
- Are parts, labor, diagnosis, and any related work listed separately?
- What duration and mileage are covered by the repair warranty?
- Did the diagnosis check battery cooling and control components, as well as the pack?
- How does the repair cost compare with the vehicle’s value and the time you expect to keep it?
Is the hybrid battery covered by warranty?
It may be, but the term and eligibility depend on the vehicle’s make, model year, in-service date, mileage, jurisdiction, and warranty terms. Toyota’s U.S. warranty page for the 2024 Highlander Hybrid says that for Toyota hybrids beginning with model year 2020, the high-voltage (HV) battery is covered for 10 years from the original date of first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. The page says coverage is subject to the New Vehicle Limited Warranty and directs owners to the applicable Warranty and Maintenance Guide. Check Toyota’s warranty information for the vehicle.

Toyota’s 2025 Warranty & Maintenance Guide likewise states that its Hybrid Battery Warranty runs for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever occurs first. Battery coverage can differ from coverage for other hybrid components
Toyota’s guide lists 8 years or 100,000 miles for other hybrid-related components, including the battery control module, hybrid control module, and inverter with converter. It notes that the HV battery may receive longer emissions-warranty coverage. Emissions coverage can vary, so check the booklet for the exact vehicle and jurisdiction rather than assuming every hybrid component has the battery’s warranty term. For a used SUV or a vehicle near a mileage or time limit, ask the manufacturer or dealer to confirm coverage using the VIN and in-service date. A general warranty summary cannot establish whether a particular repair qualifies.

Not necessarily. A reliability category or warning light is not a diagnosis of your SUV. Have a qualified technician identify the fault and determine whether the battery pack, its cooling system, a control component, or another issue is responsible. Ask for the diagnostic findings in writing and what evidence supports replacing the pack rather than repairing another part.

Do not approve a replacement solely because a general lifespan estimate has been reached: the available manufacturer guidance describes lifespan as an estimate, not a scheduled replacement interval.
