The 2026 Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and 2025 KTM 390 Duke are close on engine size, published power, seat height and suspension travel. The more useful differences in the cited specifications are the Duke’s published torque figure and optional lower seat, the Vitpilen’s listed fuel capacity and slightly longer wheelbase, and the fact that their listed weights use different measurement bases. These are manufacturer specifications for different model years and markets—not results from a same-year comparison test.
Which model years and markets are being compared?
This comparison uses Husqvarna’s 2026 international Vitpilen 401 specifications and KTM Australia’s 2025 390 Duke specifications. Local equipment and specifications can vary, so check the exact model year and market variant with a local dealer before buying. Do not assume every feature listed here is standard in every country.
How do the published specifications compare?
| Specification | Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 (2026 international) | KTM 390 Duke (2025 Australia) |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | Single-cylinder, four-stroke, liquid-cooled; 398.6 cm³ | Single-cylinder, four-stroke, liquid-cooled; 398.7 cm³ |
| Published power | 33 kW on the 2026 technical page; Husqvarna’s 2024 launch announcement gives 45 hp | 45 PS |
| Published torque | Not stated in the cited 2026 technical table (Husqvarna) | 39 Nm |
| Seat height | 820 mm | 820 mm standard; 800 mm with optional PowerParts seat |
| Published weight | 154.5 kg without fuel | 165 kg fully fueled |
| Wheelbase | 1368 mm | 1357 mm |
| Fuel capacity | Approximately 13 L | Not stated in the cited Australia specification table (KTM) |
| Suspension travel | 150 mm front and rear | 150 mm front and rear |
| Front brake | 320 mm disc; ByBre opposed four-piston caliper | 320 mm disc; four-piston radial fixed caliper |
These are published figures, not independently measured head-to-head results. The power figures are close in nominal class, but the sources use different units: the Vitpilen’s current technical page gives kW, its 2024 launch announcement gives hp, and KTM Australia lists PS. The weight figures cannot establish which motorcycle is lighter in an equivalent condition: Husqvarna reports the Vitpilen without fuel, while KTM reports the Duke fully fueled.
What are the clearest practical differences?
Seat options
Both have a listed standard seat height of 820 mm. KTM Australia’s cited information describes an optional PowerParts seat that lowers the 390 Duke to 800 mm. That option may matter to riders prioritizing a lower seat; confirm availability and fitment for the specific model year and market. The cited sources do not establish a corresponding Vitpilen option.

Torque and fuel capacity
KTM lists 39 Nm for the 2025 Australian-market Duke. The cited 2026 Vitpilen technical table does not state torque, so the available figures do not support a direct torque comparison. Husqvarna lists approximately 13 L of fuel capacity for the Vitpilen; the cited KTM Australia table does not state the Duke’s capacity. Neither omission should be filled with a figure from another market without checking the relevant variant.
Wheelbase and weight
The listed wheelbases differ by 11 mm: 1368 mm for the Vitpilen and 1357 mm for the Duke. That measurement alone does not establish how either bike will handle. Likewise, the different weight measurement bases make a direct weight advantage claim unreliable.

How do their chassis and rider aids differ on paper?
Both specification pages list a 43 mm WP front fork and 150 mm of travel at each end. The adjustment descriptions and equipment are not identical, however, and should be checked for the exact local version.
Vitpilen 401
Husqvarna’s announcement for the redesigned 2024 generation describes a new engine family, chassis and styling, alongside cornering Motorcycle Traction Control, selectable ride modes, adjustable WP suspension, ByBre brakes, Bosch cornering-sensitive ABS, Easy Shift clutchless shifting and a 5-inch TFT display. These details describe the new-generation Vitpilen context; older Vitpilen 401 model years should not be assumed to have the same equipment.

The specifications establish two motorcycles in a very similar engine and power class, but they do not establish which rides better. Use the figures as a shortlist, then compare the exact local bikes in person and, if possible, ride both.
