Huawei planned a five-day run of product showcases from April 8 to April 12, 2024, spanning wearables, smart-home devices, audio, PCs, tablets and vehicle-related technology. The Huawei P70 was discussed as a possibility, not a confirmed part of the schedule. In hindsight, the phone story was ultimately a naming transition: Huawei introduced the successor family as the Pura 70 series.
A product campaign—not one conventional launch
The original April 8, 2024 report described Huawei’s plans as a series of category-focused showcases rather than one large smartphone event. According to Gizmochina’s contemporaneous report, wearables were scheduled for April 8, while home, audio, automobile and PC-related products were expected across April 9–12. Tablet products and accessories were also part of the expected mix.

An April 11 communication event was also associated with possible HarmonyOS-related announcements. However, those possibilities should not be treated as firm product confirmations.

The automotive wording matters. The available reporting supports a vehicle-related product category and new Intelligent World S7 models, but it does not establish that Huawei was launching a Huawei-built car. “Car technology” and “vehicle-related announcements” are more accurate descriptions than calling it Huawei’s first car.

What actually appeared during the week?
Contemporaneous coverage reported that Huawei introduced the MateBook X Pro 2024 and FreeBuds Lipstick 2 while the P70 had not appeared at that event. A separate report said Huawei launched the Band 9 in China at 269 yuan, with sales scheduled to begin on April 12. That price and sales date applied specifically to China, not automatically to other markets.
The result was a broad product week, but not a confirmed P70 launch event. Products mentioned in advance should therefore be separated into three groups: categories reported as scheduled, products named as expected, and possibilities such as the P70 or additional HarmonyOS hardware.
Why was the P70 release date uncertain?
As of the April 8 article, Huawei had not provided a firm public P70 launch date. The report said the handset could arrive “at any time,” but that language was not the same as an official event confirmation. Leaks and industry speculation had generated strong interest because the P-series successor was expected to be Huawei’s major camera-focused flagship, yet the company was organizing announcements across several product areas instead of clearly presenting the week as a smartphone launch.

That distinction explains the mystery: the P70 was a highly anticipated possibility attached to a real Huawei product campaign, not the confirmed centerpiece of that campaign.
The correction: P70 became Pura 70
The “P70” label is now historical shorthand for the anticipated successor. Huawei says the P Series was renamed the Pura Series in 2024, while older products such as the P50 and P60 retained their original names. Huawei’s official support material identifies the Pura 70 family as the successor branding, and its global product pages list the Pura 70 and Pura 70 Pro.
That means the evidence supports a branding transition—not cancellation of the phone line. A current article should say that the P70’s timing was uncertain on April 8, 2024, but that Huawei subsequently introduced the family as Pura 70. The exact launch timing should not be inferred from the original report alone.

What the mix says about Huawei’s car and device strategy
The campaign’s unusual breadth illustrates how Huawei’s hardware increasingly reaches beyond phones. Watches and health devices, audio accessories, tablets, laptops, smart displays and vehicle technology can all serve as connected parts of the same broader ecosystem.

Huawei has repeatedly grouped connected products in broader ecosystem launches, including watches, earbuds and tablets, while HarmonyOS has provided the company with a cross-device platform story. The Intelligent World S7 references also show why Huawei’s role in automotive technology deserves separate attention from its consumer electronics business.
For car readers, the practical question is not simply whether a vehicle carries Huawei technology. It is which systems Huawei supplies, which automaker markets the vehicle, where it is sold, and whether connected services work in the buyer’s country.

Availability and compatibility cautions
- China is not the same as global availability. The Band 9 price and April 12 sales date were reported for China. A Chinese announcement does not establish U.S., European or other regional retail availability.
- Product names and configurations can vary. The names in the 2024 report were expected or translated product names; regional products may use different configurations or launch schedules.
- Check phone compatibility. Huawei says some audio-sharing functions require EMUI 13.0 or later and selected supported devices. Compatibility can depend on the phone, operating system, software version and region. See Huawei’s support documentation.
- Review the wider software ecosystem. MatePad tablets, Huawei wearables and accessories may not provide the same app or service experience as Apple, Samsung or Google-based devices, particularly for buyers who depend on Google services.
- Verify automotive support locally. Vehicle availability, connected features, servicing and software services are market-specific. Do not assume that an Intelligent World S7 announcement applies to every country.
Bottom line on the P70 mystery
Huawei’s April 2024 campaign was real and unusually broad, covering wearables, audio, home devices, computers, tablets and automotive technology over several days. The P70, however, was not confirmed as part of the event described on April 8, and contemporaneous coverage said it had not been announced at the April 11 event.
The later answer was not a permanent disappearance of Huawei’s P-series successor. Huawei changed the branding to Pura 70. For anyone evaluating Huawei hardware today, the sensible approach is to check the exact regional product page, price, warranty, availability and device compatibility rather than treating the old P70 rumor as a current release announcement.
