The Huawei- and Chery-backed Luxeed R7 EREV can travel up to 1,673 km (about 1,040 miles) on a full charge and a full tank under China’s CLTC test cycle. That is a combined gasoline-and-electric figure—not the range of its battery. The maximum battery-only rating is 360 km (about 224 miles), with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine generating electricity for longer journeys.
The R7 EREV originally launched in China in December 2024, while the higher-range 1,673-km version followed in 2025. It remains listed on Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) site in 2026.
What is the Luxeed R7 EREV?
The Luxeed R7 EREV is a five-seat extended-range electric SUV sold in China. Its wheels are driven by electric motors, while a 1.5T gasoline engine acts primarily as a generator, or range extender.
Like a plug-in hybrid, the R7 can be charged from an external power source. It can then operate on battery power for everyday driving. When the battery is depleted or additional range is needed, gasoline powers the range extender, which produces electricity for the drive system.

That means the R7 can feel like an electric vehicle in normal use, but it is not a 1,000-mile battery EV. The advertised long-distance figure depends on both stored electricity and gasoline.
Huawei is responsible for the HIMA technology, software, intelligent cockpit and driver-assistance ecosystem, while Chery is the vehicle manufacturing and automotive production partner. The vehicle is commonly called the Luxeed R7 in English-language coverage; Huawei’s current Chinese site presents it as the Zhijie R7, while the configuration page still identifies it with LUXEED badging. All figures are official China-market CLTC ratings. The EREV Max+ is the range leader and the only listed version that exceeds 1,000 miles after conversion. The base Max is better described as having an “almost 1,000-mile” combined rating, at 976 miles.
The trim differences matter. The Max+ has the largest advertised electric and combined ranges, but the Ultra adds all-wheel drive and is considerably quicker. Its combined range is lower than the Max+ despite using the same 53.4-kWh battery.

How the range-extender system works
The R7 EREV separates propulsion from electricity generation. Electric motors provide the drive torque, while the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine supplies energy when the battery alone cannot cover the trip.

For a driver, the practical benefit is straightforward:
- Daily travel: plug in at home or at a public charger and use the vehicle’s electric range.
- Long trips: refuel with gasoline rather than relying entirely on fast-charging infrastructure.
- Long-term ownership: retain the added systems of a gasoline vehicle, including an engine, fuel system and engine-related maintenance.
The remaining distance after the battery-only portion is not a separately verified gasoline range. HIMA’s published combined number reflects the complete full-charge/full-fuel test result. The reviewed specifications do not establish the fuel-tank capacity, highway fuel economy or real-world gasoline range.
Why “1,000 miles” needs a CLTC warning
CLTC is China’s domestic vehicle-testing cycle. It is useful for comparing official ratings within the same market, but it should not be treated as a universal road-trip prediction.

So the accurate description is: the Luxeed R7 EREV Max+ is rated for up to 1,673 km of CLTC combined range with a full battery and full fuel tank, including up to 360 km of CLTC electric range. It is not accurate to call it a 1,000-mile battery EV or to present 1,040 miles as an independently verified real-world distance.

Battery, voltage platform and charging
The EREV range uses two battery configurations:
- The EREV Max has a 37-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery.
- The EREV Max+ and Ultra use a 53.4-kWh ternary-lithium battery.
HIMA markets the system as part of its “Giant Whale” range-extender battery platform. The current configuration table lists the EREV versions on a 400-volt architecture. That differs from the pure-electric R7 versions, which are listed with an 800-volt platform.
The official configuration table claims charging from 30% to 80% in 15 minutes for all three EREV trims. The separate R7 marketing page describes the range-extender battery platform as charging from 20% to 80% in 15 minutes. Because the official pages use different charge windows, neither claim should be rewritten as a generic “15-minute full charge.”

Performance and dimensions
The rear-wheel-drive Max and Max+ use a 227-kW rear electric motor and are listed at 0–100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. The Ultra adds a 155-kW front motor to the 227-kW rear motor, giving it all-wheel drive and a listed 0–100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds.

Earlier December 2024 launch coverage listed somewhat different dimensions, including a 4,956-mm length and a 1,634-mm height. Those figures should not be mixed with the current configuration data without identifying the source date.
Huawei’s technology contribution
The current HIMA site markets the R7 with Huawei’s Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS 4 driver-assistance system. Listed equipment can include an optional 896-line dual-optical-path imaging LiDAR, distributed 4D millimeter-wave radar, corner radars, rear solid-state LiDAR, ultrasonic sensors and multiple high-definition cameras.
These are advanced driver-assistance features, not proof that the R7 is autonomous. The official configuration information says the driver must continue monitoring traffic and retain active control. The system should therefore be understood as assistance that can support the driver—not as permission to stop paying attention or legally hand over responsibility.
Huawei’s HIMA model also extends to the HarmonyOS cockpit, software and the sales and service ecosystem. The vehicle itself is not solely manufactured by Huawei; Chery is identified as the vehicle manufacturer in the official R7 manual.

The EREV is most compelling for drivers who want electric propulsion but regularly travel beyond convenient charging coverage. Its gasoline range extender reduces dependence on public fast chargers, particularly on long trips or in areas where charging availability is uncertain.

The pure-electric R7 is a better match for a driver with dependable home charging who does not want an engine or fuel system. The official configuration page lists the pure-electric Max and Max+ at up to 667 km and 802 km of CLTC range, respectively, and gives them an 800-volt platform designation.

The trade-off is added mechanical complexity, fuel expense and maintenance. An EREV can deliver electric-style daily driving, but it does not eliminate gasoline ownership.
China pricing and availability
Current official China-market prices are ¥249,800 for the EREV Max, ¥269,800 for the Max+ and ¥309,800 for the Ultra. These are Chinese suggested retail prices, not U.S. MSRPs, and exchange-rate conversions should not be treated as local transaction prices.
The official sales and service material reviewed is China-market material, including Chinese pricing and customer-service functions. It does not establish U.S. availability, U.S. homologation, warranty coverage, charging compatibility or parts support. A buyer outside China would need separate confirmation of legal importability and after-sales support.
For China-market buyers, HIMA provides purchase, test-drive and store-finding functions through its official model portal. Its service page describes ownership and maintenance support, including a stated first range-extender service benefit subject to its published time and mileage conditions.
Which R7 EREV makes the most sense?
- EREV Max: the price-focused choice, with 251 km of CLTC electric range and a gasoline backup.
- EREV Max+: the range-focused choice, offering the highest claimed electric and combined figures for ¥20,000 more than the Max.
- EREV Ultra: the performance and AWD choice. It is the quickest EREV R7, but its official range ratings are below those of the rear-wheel-drive Max+ and its price is ¥60,000 above the Max+.
Verdict
The Luxeed R7 EREV is a long-range extended-range electric vehicle, not a 1,000-mile battery-powered EV. Its headline 1,673-km figure applies to the Max+ under the optimistic CLTC combined test with a full charge and full tank. The battery-only maximum is 360 km, or about 224 miles.
That distinction is also the vehicle’s appeal: electric driving for routine use, with gasoline-generated electricity available when a road trip exceeds the battery’s reach. Whether that trade-off is worthwhile depends on charging access, trip patterns and willingness to maintain a more complex powertrain.
