U.S. viewers do not currently have a confirmed free live TV channel for the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Apple TV is the official U.S. home of Formula 1 and requires a subscription, although the current Apple event listing shows a seven-day free trial for eligible customers before charging $12.99 per month. That is a conditional trial offer—not permanent free coverage.
For viewers physically in Azerbaijan, Formula 1 lists Idman Azerbaijan as a local broadcaster. Azerbaijan’s audiovisual regulator describes Idman TV as a nationwide terrestrial broadcaster, but the available information does not confirm the 2026 race schedule, reception conditions outside Azerbaijan, or U.S. availability.

How can viewers in the United States watch the race?
For U.S. viewers, Apple TV is the official Formula 1 broadcaster. Apple says its F1 coverage includes every Grand Prix live, as well as practice, qualifying and Sprint sessions where applicable. The service is available through the Apple TV app and the web at tv.apple.com, along with supported Apple devices, smart TVs, streaming devices and game consoles.
The important qualification is that Apple TV is a subscription service. The official Apple F1 watch page lists the Azerbaijan Grand Prix as subscription programming, so there is currently no basis for promising a free full-race broadcast in the United States.
Can I use the Apple TV free trial?
The current Apple TV listing for the Azerbaijan race displays “Accept Free Trial” and says “7 days free, then $12.99/month.” A new or otherwise eligible subscriber may therefore be able to watch the race during the trial period.
That option has three important limitations:
- Eligibility is determined by Apple and may depend on your account, previous promotions or subscription history.
- The trial is not a free-to-air channel and does not mean the race is permanently free.
- Unless you cancel under the applicable terms, billing can begin after the seven-day period.
Verify the offer on the official Apple TV event page immediately before the Azerbaijan weekend. Trial prices, availability and eligibility can change between publication and race day.

Step-by-step: watch the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Apple TV
- Check the official Apple TV F1 page. Do this close to September 24–26, 2026, rather than relying on an old listing or search result.
- Open the Azerbaijan Grand Prix event. Confirm that the listing is for the live race and not a replay, highlights package or documentary.
- Review the trial terms. If the “Accept Free Trial” offer appears and you are eligible, check the stated trial length, price after the trial and cancellation conditions.
- Sign in or create an Apple Account if required. Apple may request payment details even when the initial period is promotional.
- Watch through a supported device. You can use the Apple TV app on compatible Apple hardware, smart TVs, streaming devices and consoles, or watch in a browser at tv.apple.com.
- Cancel in time if you do not want a paid subscription. Follow Apple’s current account-management instructions and allow enough time for cancellation to be processed.
Is there a free channel in Azerbaijan?
Formula 1’s official broadcaster information lists Idman Azerbaijan for Azerbaijan. Another official F1 broadcaster listing identifies “Handymain (Setanta) & Idman Azerbaijan” for the territory.
Azerbaijan’s Audiovisual Council describes Idman TV as a nationwide terrestrial television broadcaster covering the Republic of Azerbaijan. This makes Idman TV a plausible free-channel option for viewers located in Azerbaijan who can receive the terrestrial service.
However, the available broadcaster listings do not establish all of the following:
- That Idman Azerbaijan will show every 2026 practice, qualifying session and race session;
- The exact 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix broadcast schedule;
- Whether the channel can be legally received in the United States or another country;
- Whether an online stream will be offered, or whether any stream will be available internationally; or
- Whether a particular cable, satellite or internet-TV package is required.
Accordingly, viewers in Azerbaijan should check Idman TV’s own schedule and local distribution information as the race approaches. Readers elsewhere should not treat Idman Azerbaijan as a confirmed international free stream.

What is the cheapest legal way to watch?
| Viewer location or situation | Best confirmed option | Is the full race free? |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Apple TV subscription, or the currently displayed trial if eligible | No confirmed permanent free option; trial availability is conditional |
| Physically in Azerbaijan | Check Idman Azerbaijan/Idman TV’s local schedule | Potentially available through the terrestrial broadcaster, but the 2026 race transmission is not yet confirmed in the supplied information |
| Outside the U.S. and Azerbaijan | Use the official broadcaster listed for your territory | Depends on local rights |
Do not assume that a broadcaster’s availability in one country gives you permission to access it from another. Sports rights are territorial, and an online stream may be blocked or restricted even when the television channel is freely available locally.
Can Apple Sports show the race for free?
Apple Sports can provide no-cost live timing, leaderboards, standings and race updates on supported Apple devices. It is useful if you only need lap-by-lap information, but it is not a free live video channel for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Using Apple Sports does not replace an Apple TV subscription when you want live race video.
What equipment do I need?
You do not need to buy an Apple TV streaming box to watch Formula 1. If you already have a compatible smart TV, streaming device, game console, computer or mobile Apple device, the Apple TV app or website may be sufficient.

Readers who want to watch on a television without a compatible built-in app can consider an Apple TV 4K. Apple’s support documentation says the device connects to a television through HDMI and requires broadband internet through Wi-Fi or Ethernet. It is a viewing-device option, not a way to avoid the Apple TV subscription.
Before buying hardware, check whether your television already supports the Apple TV app and whether another streaming device or console you own can run it. Buying an Apple TV 4K does not make the Azerbaijan Grand Prix free; the hardware purchase and Apple TV subscription are separate costs.
What not to rely on
- A U.S. antenna: There is no confirmed U.S. free-to-air broadcast for this race, so an indoor antenna is not a supported recommendation.
- VPN access to a foreign broadcaster: A VPN does not automatically make a foreign stream legal or available under its rights terms. Do not rely on VPN circumvention as the viewing plan.
- Unofficial streams and rebroadcasts: These can disappear, contain malware or violate copyright and broadcast-rights restrictions.
- Old free-race announcements: Apple has said some F1 programming and selected events may be available free in the Apple TV app, but the available announcement does not identify the Azerbaijan Grand Prix as a free full-race event. The later Apple F1 watch page lists the Azerbaijan race as subscription programming.
Race-week checklist
- Confirm the race remains scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026.
- Check the official Apple TV F1 page for the live event and current pricing.
- Look for the trial prompt only if you are a new or otherwise eligible subscriber.
- Check your device’s Apple TV app or use tv.apple.com before race day.
- Test your internet connection and sign in ahead of the session.
- If you are in Azerbaijan, check Idman TV’s local schedule and terrestrial availability.
- If you only need timing and standings, prepare Apple Sports instead of assuming it provides video.

Bottom line: U.S. viewers should plan on Apple TV for live video. An eligible customer may currently be able to use the seven-day trial, but that is conditional and can convert to a paid subscription. In Azerbaijan, Idman Azerbaijan is the local broadcaster listed by Formula 1 and may provide the free terrestrial route, subject to the confirmed local schedule and reception. No confirmed U.S. free-to-air channel or universally accessible free stream has been established.
