The 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 was held on Sunday, May 26, 2024. In the United States, viewers could watch the race on NBC or stream it on Peacock, while Universo and Telemundo Deportes provided Spanish-language coverage. Viewers in the Indianapolis area needed to pay special attention to Peacock’s local blackout restrictions and use their local NBC affiliate instead if the race was unavailable online.
Where the 108th Indy 500 was available

Race-day schedule
NBC Sports’ published schedule for Sunday, May 26, 2024, listed:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Eastern: Indy 500 pre-race coverage
- 12:30–4:00 p.m. Eastern: scheduled race broadcast
- 200 laps: the planned distance of the Indianapolis 500
The times above were the announced broadcast windows, not a guarantee that the green flag would fall exactly at the scheduled time. Weather can delay the start or interrupt the race, and the 2024 event did experience a substantial weather delay. Josef Newgarden ultimately won the 108th Indy 500 for Team Penske.

- An over-the-air antenna, where a local NBC station could be received
- Cable or satellite television packages that included the local NBC affiliate
- A legal live-TV streaming service carrying the viewer’s local NBC station, subject to that service’s geography and channel lineup
For viewers who already had NBC access, no separate Peacock subscription was required to watch the network broadcast. The local station was also particularly important in the Indianapolis area, where the Peacock stream could be subject to a territorial blackout.
Optional equipment for receiving NBC over the air
If the local NBC affiliate was available over the air, a digital TV antenna could be an economical way to receive the broadcast without a cable or live-TV subscription. Reception depends on distance from the transmitter, terrain, building materials, antenna placement, and local signal strength. An antenna receives the local NBC broadcast; it does not bypass a Peacock streaming blackout.
How to stream the race on Peacock
Peacock simulstreamed the main NBC race coverage, including the scheduled 11:00 a.m. Eastern pre-race start and the 12:30 p.m. Eastern race window. Peacock also carried much of the 2024 IndyCar Month of May schedule, making it the most complete U.S. streaming destination for the event buildup.
Before race day, viewers should have:
- Confirmed that their Peacock account and subscription were active.
- Installed or updated the Peacock app on their supported television, phone, tablet, computer, or streaming device.
- Signed in before the broadcast began rather than waiting until the scheduled green flag.
- Checked the local blackout situation if they lived in or around Indianapolis.
Important Indianapolis-area blackout warning
NBC Sports stated that the live 108th Indy 500 stream on Peacock could be unavailable in the Indianapolis area because the race was subject to the same blackout policy as local NBC affiliates. This was a location-specific warning—not a rule that applied to every Peacock subscriber nationwide.
If Peacock displayed a blackout or the live race did not appear for an Indianapolis-area viewer, the practical alternative was the local NBC station through an antenna, cable, satellite, or an eligible live-TV service. A Peacock subscription by itself was not a guarantee of access in that market.

Spanish-language coverage
Spanish-language viewers could watch the 108th Indy 500 on Universo, whose coverage was scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Eastern on race day. Telemundo Deportes also provided digital streaming through its website and app.
Availability depended on the viewer’s television provider, location, and account access. The Universo and Telemundo Deportes routes were separate from the English-language NBC and Peacock options.

Practice, qualifying, and other Indy 500 programming
Peacock was the principal U.S. home for the 2024 on-track buildup. The published schedule included the following times, all Eastern:
| Date | Programming | Where to watch |
|---|---|---|
| May 14 | Practice, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. | Peacock |
| May 15–17 | Practice, generally noon–6:00 p.m. | Peacock |
| May 18 | Practice, 8:30–9:30 a.m.; full-field qualifying, 11:00 a.m.–5:50 p.m. | Peacock |
| May 19 | Fast 12, Last Chance, and Fast Six qualifying coverage, 3:00–6:00 p.m. | NBC and Peacock |
| May 20 | Practice, 1:00–3:00 p.m. | Peacock |
| May 24 | Carb Day final practice, 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.; Pit Stop Challenge, 2:30–4:00 p.m. | Peacock |
| May 25 | Indy 500 Parade, noon–2:00 p.m. | Peacock |
| May 27 | Victory Celebration, 8:30–11:00 p.m. | Peacock |
One important distinction is that Peacock carried the full qualifying package, while NBC joined the Sunday, May 19 qualifying block for the Fast 12, Last Chance, and Fast Six sessions. The race itself was available through NBC and Peacock, subject to the Indianapolis-area blackout caveat.
How to listen instead of watch
The official INDYCAR Radio Network was the video-free alternative. For the 2024 race, INDYCAR listed live audio coverage on SiriusXM channel 218 and through the INDYCAR App. INDYCAR’s broader radio service also supports official digital listening and local affiliates, although availability can vary by event and location.

Radio coverage is useful for driving, working, or following the race when a video stream is unavailable. It also avoids the local Peacock video blackout, although it is an audio service rather than a way to watch the NBC broadcast.

The confirmed broadcast information above applies to the United States. The available official announcements established NBC, Peacock, Universo, Telemundo Deportes, and INDYCAR Radio as U.S. outlets, but they did not provide a complete country-by-country rights list for the 108th race.
Viewers outside the United States should have checked their local broadcaster or INDYCAR’s regional rights information. They should not have assumed that NBC or Peacock was available internationally, or that a U.S. subscription would work in another country.
Quick decision guide
- Have local NBC access? Watch the race on NBC through an antenna, pay-TV provider, or eligible live-TV service.
- Prefer streaming and live outside the Indianapolis blackout area? Use Peacock for the NBC simulstream and the broader Month of May schedule.
- Live in or near Indianapolis? Check the local NBC affiliate first; Peacock may be blacked out.
- Want Spanish commentary? Use Universo on television or Telemundo Deportes digitally.
- Only need audio? Use INDYCAR Radio on SiriusXM channel 218 or through the INDYCAR App.
- Outside the U.S.? Confirm the local rights holder instead of relying on the U.S. options.
Historical update
The 108th Indianapolis 500 was not a future event. It took place on May 26, 2024, after weather affected the day’s schedule. Josef Newgarden won for Team Penske. The broadcast arrangements described here are the historical live-viewing options for that race; they should not be treated as a guarantee of current replay availability or as the schedule for a later Indy 500.
