The feature is not available on every model, and the control can vary by year, trim, body style, and market, so confirm the switch in your vehicle’s manual.
How to switch on Civic fog lights
- Confirm the car has fog lights. Honda marks the feature as “Not available on all models” in the manuals cited below. If your Civic has no fog-light control, do not assume the lights are fitted.
- Turn on the low-beam headlights. Honda’s instructions for the 2022 Civic Sedan and 2023 Civic Hatchback and Si Sedan specify low beams as the condition for using the fog lights.
- Use the fog-light switch on the lighting control. The cited manuals diagram the control on the steering-column lighting stalk. Check the manual for your exact Civic to identify the fog-light icon and the switch action; do not assume every year or trim uses the same control.
Honda’s 2023 Civic Hatchback manual states: “When the low beam headlights are on, turn the fog light switch on to use the fog lights.” The same instruction appears in the 2023 Civic Si Sedan manual and the 2022 Civic Sedan manual.
Which Civic instructions are verified?
The operation above is directly verified in U.S. owner manuals for the 2022 Civic Sedan and 2023 Civic Hatchback and Si Sedan. Those examples do not establish that every Civic year, body style, trim, or market has fog lights or the same switch layout.
To find instructions for your car, use Honda Owners’ manuals and warranty information to select the year and model. Honda notes that its U.S. owner-site information applies to U.S. vehicles; owners elsewhere should consult their local Honda distributor through Honda’s regional site.

If the lights do not come on
- Check the vehicle-specific manual to confirm the Civic is equipped with fog lights and that you are using the correct switch.
- If the manual confirms the equipment but the lights still do not operate, consult an appropriate service resource. The operating instructions alone do not establish whether a repair or replacement part is needed.
The manuals explain how to operate the lights, but they do not establish when fog lights may legally be used. Check the current rules for your location.
