To turn off automatic Stop/Start in a Jeep Cherokee KL, press the factory Stop/Start OFF switch on the switch bank. The switch indicator illuminates and the instrument cluster displays “STOP/START OFF.” The setting lasts for the current ignition cycle; after you turn the ignition off and back on, the system resets to ON, so press the switch again if you want it off for that drive.

The procedure is described in the Cherokee (KL) owner-manual content covering 2014–2023 and in the 2023 Cherokee owner’s manual. Check the Mopar owner’s manual portal for the manual matching your exact year and configuration.
Why the system turns back on
In the cited Cherokee manuals, switching the ignition off and back on resets Stop/Start to ON. The OFF button is therefore a temporary setting, not a permanent disablement; press it again after restarting whenever you want Autostop off for that drive.

What Stop/Start does
Jeep describes Stop/Start as a feature intended to reduce fuel consumption by automatically stopping and restarting the engine while the vehicle is idling at a stop. No verified fuel-savings percentage is available here, so actual savings should not be assumed or quantified.
If a SERVICE STOP/START SYSTEM warning appears
A “SERVICE STOP/START SYSTEM” message indicates a malfunction, not that the feature has simply been turned off. The Cherokee owner-manual guidance says the system will not shut down the engine when it malfunctions and directs the owner to have it checked by an authorized dealer. Do not treat disconnecting wiring, sensors, the battery, or fuses as a routine disable procedure; the cited guidance does not support those workarounds.

Can an aftermarket module keep it off?
Some owner discussions mention a “Jeep Cherokee start stop memory module” or memory chip, but that anecdotal mention does not establish a current product, fitment for a particular Cherokee year or trim, or a safe installation method.
