Find the receiver’s exact model number and follow its matching Pioneer manual. For the documented AVH-Z9250BT, you can clear the security password only if you know the current password; if it is forgotten, Pioneer directs you to an authorized service station.
Find your Pioneer radio’s exact model first
Pioneer publishes separate manuals for its AVH, DMH, DEH and MVH receivers, so button presses and menu names can differ. Check the model number on the receiver or its documentation, then look up the corresponding manual through Pioneer’s manuals portal. Do not assume the AVH-Z9250BT steps below apply to another model.
Clear a known password on the AVH-Z9250BT
The AVH-Z9250BT Operation Manual describes a security password of 5 to 16 characters. When the password is set, the receiver prompts for it at the next boot if its backup lead is cut. If you know the current password and want to remove it, use the receiver’s anti-theft settings:
- Open the System/security settings menu.
- Select Clear Password and confirm.
- Enter the current password when prompted.
These instructions are specific to the AVH-Z9250BT. Consult the matching manual for any other Pioneer model. The password-removal procedure is documented in the Pioneer AVH-Z9250BT Operation Manual.

If you have forgotten the password
The AVH-Z9250BT manual says: “If you forget your password, contact the nearest authorised Pioneer Service Station.” Use Pioneer’s current local support information to find an authorized service station for your area. The manual does not provide a generic reset or code-generator method for bypassing a forgotten password.
Will a factory reset clear the anti-theft password?
The AVH-Z9250BT manual describes Restore Settings separately from clearing the password. It does not say that restoring settings or recorded content removes a password you cannot enter. Treat a reset and password removal as different operations; do not rely on a factory reset to unlock a forgotten code.

What to do if the radio asks for a password after a battery disconnect
A password prompt after power has been interrupted may reflect a model’s security feature, but the exact behavior and recovery steps depend on the receiver. Identify the model and check its manual rather than trying another model’s button sequence. Pioneer’s manuals portal is the starting point for model-specific documentation. Firmware updates are not established as a password-recovery method, so do not use one for this purpose unless the instructions for your exact model say to.
