Start by checking whether the noise happens only with a window or roof opening ajar, or continues with everything closed. Open-aperture buffeting and a persistent air leak point to different causes. Inspect accessible door and hardtop seal areas for visible damage or displacement; if noise persists, water gets in, or a door or window appears misaligned, ask a Mahindra authorised service centre to inspect it. First identify when the noise occurs
Reproduce the sound safely and note the driving conditions: whether it happens only with a particular window or roof opening ajar, whether it continues with all openings closed, and whether wind direction seems to affect it. Do not treat an anecdotal speed as a diagnostic threshold.

Inspect seals without taking anything apart
With the vehicle parked, visually check the accessible door and hardtop seal areas for obvious tears, gaps, or material that appears displaced. Note any water ingress and whether a door or window seems to sit unevenly. These observations can help a technician investigate, but they do not establish that a particular seal needs replacement.

Avoid risky DIY fixes
- Do not aim a high-pressure water jet at door or roof seals and joints; Mahindra warns that this can damage relevant sealing areas. Mahindra Thar owner manuals

When to ask Mahindra service to check it
Request an inspection at a Mahindra authorised service centre if the noise persists with all openings closed, if you find water ingress, if a door or window appears uneven, or if the hardtop joints need attention. Ask them to check door and window fit, sealing, and hardtop joints. A service inspection is the appropriate next step for suspected alignment or sealing issues, but no particular adjustment can be guaranteed to eliminate the noise.
