If the Tucson’s angular shape makes its corners hard to place, don’t rely on a guessed hood or bumper reference. Choose a roomy space, check the area, align deliberately, and move slowly enough to stop whenever you are unsure. Use your eyes and mirrors first; if your Tucson has a parking camera or distance warnings, treat them as extra information—not proof that the path is clear.
Use a slow, repeatable parking routine
The routine below applies whether you are backing into a stall or pulling in nose-first. Exact reference points depend on the vehicle and the driver’s seating position, so there is no single stopping point that works for every Tucson. New York DMV guidance recommends practicing to build skill at judging distances and angles, while Texas Department of Insurance guidance emphasizes checking the area before and during backing.
- Choose a forgiving space. When possible, start with a roomy stall away from tight posts, curbs, and neighboring vehicles. Scan for pedestrians, cars, fixed obstacles, and anything that could enter your path. If the clearance is hard to assess, walk around the vehicle when it is safe to do so.
- Set up before turning. Approach at a controlled speed and get the vehicle aligned with the space before steering in. Keep your pace slow enough that you can stop immediately; do not try to correct a poor approach with a quick turn.
- Keep checking as you move. Look in the direction of travel and check the sides using direct observation and mirrors. If backing, continue scanning around the vehicle rather than watching only one mirror or screen.
- Stop when your view or estimate is uncertain. If you cannot tell where a corner is relative to a curb, post, or other vehicle, stop. Reposition for another approach or get out to inspect rather than continuing on a guess.
- Set up the departure, too. Where the layout allows, consider parking so you can leave moving forward. Oregon DMV guidance notes that backing is harder to see and advises planning to pull forward when leaving; this is an option, not a rule for every space.
What Tucson parking cameras and warnings can—and cannot—do
Equipment varies by model year, trim, and market. Hyundai’s U.S. page for the 2025 Tucson lists Surround View Monitor (SVM) as standard on Limited trim; that does not establish that every Tucson has it. Check the equipment on your vehicle and consult its exact owner’s manual.
Hyundai warns that SVM cannot completely eliminate blind spots, may not detect every object, and does not warn of moving objects. Keep looking outside and checking the surroundings even when a bird’s-eye view is available. A camera image or reference line is an aid to judgment, not a guarantee of body-panel clearance.

The 2025 Tucson manual describes a Parking/View button and selectable front, side, rear, and top views, as well as configurable camera reference lines and parking-distance warnings. These controls and menu options depend on equipment. Consult Hyundai’s owner portal for the manual that matches your vehicle; the 2025 manual’s Surround View Monitor operation and settings describe the system for that model-year manual. Availability and labels can differ on other vehicles.
Practise your own corner reference points
A safe empty lot lets you learn how the Tucson’s corners appear from your normal driving position without the pressure of a tight space. Pennsylvania driver-training guidance notes that reference points vary by vehicle and driver height, so use your own seat position rather than copying someone else’s landmark.

- Set out cones or use pavement markings in an empty area, leaving generous room around the vehicle.
- Approach or back toward one marker at walking pace, checking outside, in mirrors, and on any fitted display.
- Stop well before contact and note where the marker appears in relation to the hood, mirrors, and windows from your normal seated position.
- Repeat from another angle and with a different marker position. Do not treat one view or one practice run as a universal stopping point.
Texas Department of Insurance suggests cones as a way to practise backing into stalls. They are optional practice aids: they do not reveal the exact position of every body panel, and they do not replace observation. If parking still feels difficult, consider practising with a qualified driving instructor.
