1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo install a home charger in France, start with an IRVE-qualified installer, who can assess your electrical installation, earthing, cable route and suitable charging power before quoting for the work. The process differs if your parking space is in a copropriété: first check whether the building has or plans collective charging infrastructure, then consider the individual droit à la prise procedure. The income-tax credit for home charging stations does not apply to expenses paid in 2026.
How to install a charger at a detached home
Use an IRVE-qualified professional (IRVE means Infrastructures de Recharge de Véhicule Électrique). Enedis recommends a professional assessment before choosing equipment or arranging installation. The installer should check the existing electrical system, including whether it has an earth connection, and assess the location and cable route.
- Request an assessment and itemised quote. Ask the installer to describe the proposed equipment, electrical work and any changes needed to your subscribed electrical power.
- Agree the location and cable route. The route from the electrical supply to the parking space affects the work required. Ask the professional to assess it on site.
- Choose the charging option and power. Match the equipment to your vehicle, charging routine and the capacity of the home’s electrical supply. A supply increase may be necessary; the installer can advise after the assessment.
- Have the installation completed and explained. Ask how to operate the equipment and use any scheduling or load-management settings. Keep the detailed invoice and installation documents.
Enedis’s home installation guidance describes the assessment and installer’s role. A product purchase alone is not a substitute for checking the electrical installation and arranging suitable professional installation.
Choose between a household socket, reinforced socket and wallbox
Enedis’s home-charging guide, published about 2021, gives the following examples. They are reference configurations, not promises of charging speed or confirmation that a given setup suits your vehicle or home.
#1 Best Overall

- Charge Smart: With the user-friendly ChargePoint Mobile App, you can control your electric car charger, manage reminders, connect to smart home devices, find stations, get data and charging info, and access the latest features. Note: WiFi is needed for certain functionalities and troubleshooting steps if connectivity issues arise.
- Vast Network: Wherever you go, ChargePoint’s network includes 274k+ stations across North America and Europe and 565k+ roaming partner stations.
- Safe & Durable: Rely on this UL-certified EV charger for safe home charging. It can be installed indoors or outdoors by an electrician and includes a cold-resistant cable.
- Fast & Powerful: This EV charger charges 9× faster than a 120V outlet, delivering up to 45 mi/hr., dependent upon your vehicle. It features a J1772 connector for all non-Tesla EVs and requires a 20A or 80A circuit. For Tesla EVs, this will require an adapter.
| Option | Example in Enedis’s guide | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Standard household socket | 1.8 kVA / 8 A | Discuss whether it suits your charging routine and the electrical installation. |
| Reinforced socket | 3.7 kVA / 16 A | An alternative to consider if it fits your needs and the site assessment. |
| Home charging station (wallbox) | 7.4 kVA / 32 A | Compare the equipment and installed work with your vehicle requirements and available supply. |
When comparing quotes, check what each includes: equipment, electrical work, cable route, charging power and any required change to subscribed power. There is no representative national 2026 installed-price figure established here; request itemised quotes for your property rather than relying on a generic estimate.
If your parking space is in a copropriété
Contact the syndic first and ask whether the building has collective charging infrastructure or a project underway. Enedis describes both operator-led private infrastructure and its public-network “réseau électrique auto” approach. A collective system can support several residents and coordinate building-wide planning; an individual installation places the project and its costs with the resident making the request.

- WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car.
- PLUG IN, NO HARDWIRING: Level 2 charger delivers up to 40A to fully charge most EVs overnight. Plugs into a 240V, 4-prong NEMA 14-50 outlet (the RV/range type - NOT a dryer outlet) on a dedicated 50A circuit. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that you have the right outlet.
- CONTROL & SAVE FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start/stop charging, set speed (6-40A), get reminders, and track energy use and cost. Schedule off-peak overnight charging to cut your electric bill. Requires 2.4 GHz WiFi.
- SAFETY-CERTIFIED & WEATHERPROOF: Independently tested and certified (UL, ETL, FCC, Energy Star). A fully sealed IP66 / NEMA 4 housing stands up to rain, snow, heat and dust indoors or out, and internal steel shielding protects the electronics for years of reliable use.
- GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.
Request an individual installation under the droit à la prise
If you want to pursue an individual charging point, Enedis advises obtaining technical and financial proposals from several IRVE-qualified professionals before notifying the building. Its guidance describes the following procedure:
- Get proposals from several IRVE-qualified professionals. Have them set out the technical solution and costs.
- Send the project details to the syndic by registered letter. If you are a tenant, send the request to your landlord or owner and copy the syndic.
- Allow for the objection period. Enedis says the syndic has three months to object and may contest the request only for a serious reason, such as technical infeasibility or a collective infrastructure project already underway.
See Enedis’s copropriété charging guidance. Because this is a legal procedure, check current official legal guidance before acting; building circumstances and the applicable rules matter.

Check Advenir support for collective infrastructure
Enedis reports Advenir support for eligible collective-infrastructure projects in buildings constructed before 2017. The amounts below are those stated on Enedis’s Advenir information page, accessed in 2026; confirm current eligibility and terms with Advenir before budgeting.
| Eligible item described by Enedis | Reported support |
|---|---|
| Collective infrastructure implementation, car park of up to 100 spaces | 50% of eligible costs, capped at €8,000 excluding tax |
| Each space above 100 | €75 per additional space |
| Eligible earthworks | 50% of eligible costs, capped at €5,000 excluding tax |
Tax credit: what applies to expenses paid in 2026
Service-Public states that the home charging-station income-tax credit was removed for expenses paid from 1 January 2026. Do not include it in a budget for a station paid for in 2026. For historical context, the 2025 rules allowed 75% of eligible expenditure, capped at €500 per pilotable charging system, subject to conditions; those rules concern 2025 expenses declared in 2026. Check Service-Public’s charging-station tax-credit guidance for the applicable year and conditions.
