To import a Toyota Century from Japan and register it legally, first confirm that your destination country will admit and approve the exact car you plan to buy. Start with the destination country and the exact Century

Toyota UK’s Importing & Exporting Your Vehicle guidance says: “To register your vehicle in another country you’ll need to provide a Certificate of Conformity (or other appropriate type approval evidence) to the local registration authority.” Whether Toyota can provide documentation that applies to a particular Century must be confirmed directly; the local authority decides what it accepts.

Clarify your import circumstances
Tell the authorities whether you are buying the car abroad or bringing it as part of a relocation, and whether it is currently registered. These details may affect the applicable process. Do not rely on a rule for a different vehicle, import route or country.
Follow the process in order
- Obtain written eligibility guidance. Contact destination customs and the vehicle approval or registration authority with the Century’s year, specification, steering configuration, and registration status. Confirm the permitted import route, evidence required, and whether technical changes or individual approval are needed.
- Collect the purchase, shipping and vehicle records. Keep the purchase invoice, proof of payment, bill of lading, freight and insurance invoices, export-country registration or deregistration papers, manufacturer specification information, and reliable evidence of the manufacture date where relevant. Authorities may ask for different documents; Singapore Customs, for example, lists several of these records for assessing a vehicle’s customs value.
- Clear customs and pay the applicable charges. File the required import declaration and provide the evidence requested by the destination authority. Confirm how it calculates customs value and which taxes, duties and fees apply to your case. Customs clearance is not the same as technical approval or road registration.
- Complete technical approval and inspection. Submit the accepted conformity, emissions, safety and identity evidence, arrange any required modifications, and complete the destination’s inspection or approval procedure. Use an authorized inspection or vehicle-approval service if the local process requires one.
- Apply for local registration. Once customs and the required approval steps are complete, follow the registration authority’s application process. Provide the required documents and evidence of insurance or inspection where that authority requires them.

Plan paperwork, costs and timing around your case
Keep a document file from the start
Retain originals and clear copies of transaction, shipping, insurance, export-registration, specification and manufacture-date records. The exact list varies by jurisdiction, but complete records can help establish the vehicle’s identity and support customs valuation. Ask the customs authority which documents it requires and whether it needs originals, translations or a particular format.
Get a destination-specific cost estimate
There is no reliable global import-cost figure for a Toyota Century. Customs value, duties, taxes and other charges depend on the destination’s rules and the individual transaction; shipping, insurance, approval work and any required modifications also need to be considered. Ask the destination authority or a qualified local import professional to explain the charges for your specific car. Do not assume a standard delivery timeline
The cited official guidance does not establish a universal timeframe for shipping, customs clearance, technical approval or registration. Ask the relevant authorities and service providers for estimates for your route and vehicle, and allow for the possibility that document checks, inspections or modifications will affect the schedule.
