Start with the exact Porsche generation and model year, region, original head unit, retrofit make and model, factory amplifier or sound package, and the functions that stopped working. Note whether the issue began immediately after installation and whether the original system worked beforehand. Porsche retrofit compatibility and features vary by vehicle and equipment; there is no reliable universal reset or wiring fix.
Identify what failed before changing anything
“Bluetooth problem” or “no sound” can describe failures in different parts of an installation. Record which sources and functions work, whether the symptom is constant or intermittent, and when it began.
- Bluetooth: Does the phone fail to pair, or does it pair but fail to stream music?
- Calls: Can you hear the caller? Can the caller hear you? Is call quality poor or intermittent?
- Audio: Is sound missing from calls, streamed music, radio, navigation, CarPlay or Android Auto—or from every source?
- Controls: Which steering-wheel buttons fail, and which still work?
- Timing: Did the problem begin immediately after the retrofit, or was it present with the original system?
These distinctions help narrow the troubleshooting path; they do not, by themselves, establish a particular cause.
Confirm the retrofit matches the car and its equipment
Before changing settings or ordering parts, gather the vehicle generation and model year, market or region, original head unit, retrofit unit, factory sound package or external amplifier, and any interface or MOST fiber-optic adapter. Do not apply pinouts, coding, or button mappings from a different Porsche generation.

Porsche’s September 29, 2026 announcement describes newer PCCM Plus units for the 987.2, 997.2, 981 and 991.1 ranges, and says functions can depend on model and specification. It describes coverage of more than 300,000 vehicles from model years 2009–2016; that is a product-coverage claim, not a measure of how often faults occur. The announcement also notes Europe/North America tuner differences and says U.S. Porsche Centre availability is expected in early 2027. Check the current regional listing and fitment before assuming availability or features: Porsche Newsroom: PCCM Plus announcement.
Porsche’s Europe shop listing for PCCM Plus 997/987 describes applications through 2008 and makes multifunction steering-wheel support conditional on vehicle equipment. The product generations, year ranges and functions are not interchangeable: Porsche Shop: PCCM Plus 997/987.
For example, the AXXESS AXDIS-PO72 instructions republished by Manuals+ cover selected 2010–2016 PCM 3.1/MOST 25 applications. Their compatibility and setup details apply to those stated applications, not to every Porsche or retrofit: AXXESS AXDIS-PO72 instructions (secondary host).

If sound is missing or intermittent
Establish whether the fault predates the retrofit
Ask whether the original system produced sound from all sources before removal. Porsche’s PCCM Plus conversion instructions dated April 1, 2025 tell installers to check the sound system with the system tester before installation and correct any existing fault first. This is a requirement for that documented PCCM Plus procedure, but it is a useful baseline question for any retrofit. The instructions state: “Before installing PCCM Plus, please check that the sound system is functioning correctly using the system tester. If there is a fault, this must be corrected beforehand!” See the PCCM Plus conversion instructions.
If the problem began with installation
Ask the installer to verify that the retrofit uses the correct audio interface for the car’s amplifier and network, and to inspect the applicable MOST fiber-optic path and connections. Missing sound may involve the amplifier or optical network rather than Bluetooth pairing.
The AXXESS instructions for selected PCM 3.1/MOST 25 applications say that additional MOST 25 modules may need to be bypassed for audio to function and mention the AXFO-LOOP. That is a narrow, system-specific troubleshooting lead—not a universal Porsche remedy or a Bluetooth fix. Confirm the exact vehicle and interface compatibility with the installer before using a bypass loop.

If the original system also lacked sound, have that pre-existing fault diagnosed rather than treating the retrofit as its cause. If sound worked before and disappeared after installation, return to the installer with the affected sources and the vehicle and retrofit details.
If Bluetooth calls connect but the microphone does not work
Separate phone pairing, music streaming, speaker output and microphone pickup. A phone can pair successfully while the microphone path is disconnected, incorrectly placed or incompatible with the retrofit. Check the microphone specified for the exact unit and its installation instructions.
For the PCCM Plus conversion documented by Porsche, the original in-vehicle microphone cannot be reused; the instructions direct fitters to install the supplied hands-free microphone at the steering-column switch. They list microphone part 911.645.507.00. This instruction is specific to that PCCM Plus system. Other retrofit kits may use a factory microphone or a different connection, so confirm the product and part’s application with Porsche or the installer before ordering.

If steering-wheel buttons do not work
First identify the particular buttons and functions you expect the retrofit to retain. Then confirm that the car’s equipment supports them and that the retrofit includes the required compatible interface and radio-specific setup.
Porsche describes multifunction steering-wheel operation as equipment-dependent for PCCM Plus. The AXXESS guide documents audio-control retention and setup for selected PCM 3.1/MOST 25 applications; it does not establish compatibility with other Porsche radios or every steering-wheel function. If buttons worked before the retrofit but not after it, ask the installer to check the interface fitment, connections and required configuration for your exact system.

Escalate the problem when diagnosis involves wiring, optical connectors, an external amplifier, vehicle coding or network configuration. Porsche’s PCCM Plus procedure includes MOST connections, gateway configuration and a connection self-diagnosis, but those steps are product- and vehicle-specific. Avoid applying generic coding instructions or another model’s wiring diagram.

Porsche recommends professional installation for PCCM Plus. Bring the installer or Porsche specialist the vehicle generation and year, region, original and replacement unit details, factory sound equipment, any interface model, whether the original system worked, and a list of failed sources and controls. These details make it possible to check the actual installation rather than guess at a general fix.
Compare the relevant compatibility details before choosing a fix
Use these points to evaluate a retrofit, interface or proposed repair; a match on one item does not establish compatibility on the others.
