For a quick estimate, multiply your expected monthly distance by the reported Harrier.ev entry-trim BaaS rate of ₹5.9 per kilometre. At 60 km a day for 30 days, that is 1,800 km × ₹5.9 = ₹10,620 for the indicative battery-use amount. This is an estimate based on published 2026 reporting—not a confirmed invoice formula or a promise that your lender will recalculate the monthly battery payment from that month’s odometer reading.
Use the number as a comparison tool, then check the written offer for your exact variant and finance plan. BaaS separates vehicle and battery financing, and the battery EMI can depend on battery capacity, down payment and loan tenure. Charging and other ownership expenses sit outside the simple per-kilometre calculation.

The ₹5.9/km figure was reported by Autocar India and Financial Express on 28 September 2026. Their displayed Harrier.ev usage-cost assumption was 60 km per day. Treat the result as a way to estimate and compare costs, not as a verified contractual billing method.
Work from the distance you expect to drive
- Choose the month’s distance. If you have a realistic monthly total, use it. Otherwise multiply your average daily kilometres by the number of days in the period you want to estimate. For example, 60 km × 30 days is 1,800 km.
- Multiply by ₹5.9. For 1,800 km, the calculation is 1,800 × ₹5.9 = ₹10,620.
- Keep other costs out of this result. Charging, maintenance, repairs and other expenses are not included in the indicative battery amount.
- Check it against the written offer. Ask the dealer or lender how the battery payment is set and billed for your chosen variant and financing plan. Do not assume that the calculation above is the amount due under your contract.
Examples at the reported entry-trim rate
| Assumed daily driving | Days in estimate | Estimated distance | Indicative battery amount at ₹5.9/km |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 km/day | 30 | 900 km | ₹5,310 |
| 60 km/day | 30 | 1,800 km | ₹10,620 |
| 100 km/day | 30 | 3,000 km | ₹17,700 |
These figures are arithmetic using the reported rate, not published monthly invoices or observed owner bills. The 60 km/day example matches the usage assumption shown in the September 2026 reports; the 30 km/day and 100 km/day examples simply apply the same rate to different assumed distances.
Make the distance estimate fit your own month
The calculation is only as useful as the distance input. If you have a recent monthly odometer total or a realistic estimate for commuting and regular trips, start there rather than assuming that every day looks the same. If you use an average daily figure, multiply by the actual number of days in the period you are estimating: for instance, 60 km/day over 31 days would be 1,860 km, and at ₹5.9/km the arithmetic gives ₹10,974. That remains an illustration of the reported rate, not a forecast of a lender’s invoice.

At this reported rate, every additional 100 km changes the arithmetic estimate by ₹590. This helps show how sensitive the indicative battery amount is to distance; it does not establish whether the contract adjusts the payment by exactly that amount. The reports do not state a universal method for reconciling a customer’s actual kilometres.
Do not use the vehicle’s advertised range as a substitute for monthly distance. Range figures describe how far a vehicle may travel under particular measurement methods, while the BaaS estimate needs the kilometres you expect to drive during the billing period. Your route, travel frequency and chosen period determine that input; the published range figures do not tell you how often you will drive or how much you will spend on electricity.
Understand what ₹5.9/km does—and does not—tell you
The reports describe Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) as separating vehicle and battery financing. They also say the battery EMI depends on battery capacity, down payment and loan tenure. That means the per-kilometre figure is useful for a driving-based estimate, but it does not establish how every customer’s actual battery payment is calculated or collected.
The available reporting does not specify a universal billing reconciliation against actual monthly kilometres, a minimum distance or payment, or the tax treatment of the battery charge. It also does not establish all contract rules, including early-termination terms. Those details must come from the written offer and finance agreement for your purchase.

In practical terms, there are two different numbers to keep straight. The ₹5.9 × kilometres result is an indicative usage-cost calculation based on a published entry-trim rate. Your finance documents may instead show a battery EMI shaped by the pack, down payment and tenure. Until the dealer or lender explains whether the per-kilometre estimate translates directly into what you pay each month, do not treat those figures as interchangeable.
Ask for the terms that turn an estimate into a bill
- The monthly battery EMI for your exact Harrier.ev variant, down payment and tenure.
- Whether the quoted amount is a fixed EMI, a distance-based charge, or a combination, and how it is billed.
- How actual kilometres are measured and reconciled, including any minimum-use rule or adjustment.
- Applicable taxes and charges, and what happens if you end the finance agreement early.
- Which costs are excluded from the quote and whether any of them are payable upfront.
Ask for the answers in writing alongside the vehicle and battery financing figures. A verbal explanation of a per-kilometre rate is not enough to establish billing frequency, the period covered, how kilometres are counted, whether a minimum applies, or what happens if you drive more or less than expected. The reports dated 28 September 2026 do not settle those provisions for every buyer, so they should be checked in the customer’s own offer and agreement rather than assumed.
It is also worth asking the lender to show the battery amount for the selected down payment and tenure, not just the headline rate. Changing those financing inputs can change the battery EMI. If a quote gives a monthly figure and a per-kilometre figure, ask what each represents and whether one is illustrative or contractual. Keep the answer with the written terms so you can compare like with like if you obtain more than one offer.
Do not build a household budget around ₹5.9 multiplied by kilometres until the lender confirms whether that calculation corresponds to your agreement’s payment mechanics.

Budget separately for charging and ownership costs
The ₹5.9/km figure is not the total cost of running or owning a Harrier.ev. Autocar India and Financial Express report that the battery-use estimate excludes charging, maintenance, repairs and other associated costs. Financial Express also says road tax, insurance and TCS are excluded from the listed BaaS prices.
To estimate your broader monthly outlay, keep the battery estimate as one line in your budget, then add charging based on your own electricity tariffs and charging mix, along with the ownership expenses that apply to your purchase. The sources do not provide a universal monthly figure for those costs, so they cannot be derived from the ₹5.9/km rate alone.
Separate one-time or purchase-stage expenses from recurring expenses when you compare a quote. Road tax, insurance and TCS are not included in the listed BaaS prices according to Financial Express, while the battery-use calculation also excludes charging and vehicle upkeep. Ask which amounts are due upfront, which are financed, and which recur. Without those details, the listed price and battery estimate do not describe the full amount needed to buy and run the car.

Charging equipment is a separate purchase from BaaS. Tata Motors’ June 2025 announcement listed a 7.2 kW AC charger option at an additional ₹49,000, excluding installation. That is a historical announced price, not a current quote; check availability and current pricing with Tata or the dealer. Tata’s Harrier.ev QWD technical specifications also list a 7.2 kW AC wall box and a portable charging cable among charging options.
The charger price should not be added to the ₹5.9/km calculation as if it were a per-kilometre battery fee. It is a distinct equipment item, and the historical ₹49,000 announcement excluded installation. If home charging is part of your plan, ask what equipment is included in the current offer, whether installation is needed and what it costs. The published figures here do not give an electricity tariff or a typical monthly charging bill, so use your own tariff and expected charging use for that separate estimate.
Check whether the reported rate applies to your variant
The September 2026 reporting associates the ₹5.9/km figure with the entry-level Harrier.ev 65 kWh. It should not be assumed to apply to every trim or financing offer. Tata.ev’s support page lists the following battery and range figures:
| Harrier.ev version | Battery capacity | MIDC P1+P2 range | C75 range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 65 RWD | 65 kWh | 538 km | 420–445 km |
| 75 RWD | 75 kWh | 627 km | 480–505 km |
| 75 QWD | 75 kWh | 622 km | 460–490 km |
MIDC P1+P2 and C75 are different range measures; neither predicts how many kilometres you will drive in a month or what your electricity bill will be. The larger-capacity variants also make it especially important to get a quote for the exact version rather than carry the reported entry-trim rate across the range.
The table is useful for identifying which battery and version a quote refers to, not for calculating a BaaS amount for the 75 kWh variants. The reviewed rate is specifically associated with the entry-level 65 kWh version; the listed capacities and ranges do not provide a per-kilometre fee for the other versions. Ask the dealer to confirm the current BaaS rate and battery EMI for the exact 65 RWD, 75 RWD or 75 QWD configuration under consideration.
When you receive a quote, verify that its variant name, battery capacity and financing details match the car you plan to order. A figure for the 65 kWh entry trim should not be carried into a calculation for a 75 kWh version simply because both are Harrier.ev models. Tata’s support page provides the listed range specifications, while the actual BaaS price and financing terms need to be established in the offer for that version.
Compare BaaS with a battery-included purchase
Autocar India reported on 28 September 2026 an entry price of ₹14.49 lakh for the Harrier.ev 65 kWh with BaaS and ₹21.79 lakh without BaaS, a reported upfront difference of ₹7.30 lakh. These are reported ex-showroom entry-trim figures, subject to dealer confirmation; Financial Express notes that listed BaaS prices exclude road tax, insurance and TCS.

| Comparison point | What the reported figures establish | What to confirm for your offer |
|---|---|---|
| Entry price | ₹14.49 lakh with BaaS versus ₹21.79 lakh without BaaS for the reported 65 kWh entry trim; ₹7.30 lakh reported upfront difference (Autocar India, 28 September 2026). | Current on-road and ex-showroom prices, variant, included items, taxes and fees. |
| Battery payment | Reported entry-trim usage estimate of ₹5.9/km; published usage-cost assumptions use 60 km/day (Autocar India and Financial Express, 28 September 2026). | Actual battery EMI, down payment, tenure, billing basis and any distance rules. |
| Running costs | Charging, maintenance and repairs are not included in the reported battery-use figure; road tax, insurance and TCS are excluded from the listed BaaS prices (Financial Express, 28 September 2026). | Your charging tariffs and the complete list of purchase and ownership costs. |
| Contract flexibility | The reports do not establish universal minimum-use, distance-reconciliation or early-termination terms. | The specific contract’s minimums, measurement and billing rules, tax treatment and early-exit conditions. |
The ₹7.30 lakh reported difference is an upfront-price comparison, not proof that BaaS will cost less over the period you own the car. To compare the offers for your own driving, use a realistic monthly distance, obtain the actual battery payment and tenure, and account for excluded expenses under both purchase options. Do not infer a break-even point without those contract and cost details.
Compare the whole financing picture, not only the starting price
A useful comparison has two sides: what you pay to take delivery, and what you may pay over the period you keep the vehicle. Start with the reported ex-showroom entry figures—₹14.49 lakh with BaaS and ₹21.79 lakh without BaaS for the 65 kWh entry trim—and confirm current prices and inclusions with the dealer. Then add the selected battery financing terms, including down payment and tenure, rather than treating the ₹7.30 lakh reported upfront difference as a guaranteed saving over the life of the car.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Next, use your expected monthly kilometres to create an indicative BaaS scenario at ₹5.9/km only if the written quote confirms that rate for your variant. Keep charging, maintenance and repairs separate. Include the taxes and charges omitted from the published BaaS price, and compare like-for-like vehicle configurations and financing periods. If the terms differ, the comparison should make those differences visible rather than hiding them in a single monthly total.
Finally, read the agreement for usage limits, measurement and billing rules, tax treatment and early-termination conditions. The available reported figures do not disclose a universal minimum-use rule or a general distance-reconciliation formula. Those unknowns matter to the comparison because an arithmetic estimate alone cannot tell you what you owe or how the amount changes if your usage changes. Ask the dealer or lender to explain the terms in writing before choosing between BaaS and a battery-included purchase.
Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, told Financial Express on 28 September 2026: “As BaaS becomes an increasingly visible construct in the EV market, we want to ensure that customers evaluating a TATA.ev have complete flexibility to make a fair and transparent comparison.” The practical way to make that comparison is to use your own distance estimate while checking the complete, variant-specific finance offer and excluded expenses.

A short pre-signing checklist
- Confirm that the offer is for the exact Harrier.ev version and battery capacity you intend to buy.
- Get the battery EMI, down payment and tenure, and ask whether the ₹5.9/km amount is illustrative or part of the actual billing method.
- Ask how kilometres are counted, whether there is a minimum, and whether any reconciliation or adjustment applies.
- Check tax treatment, excluded vehicle expenses and any early-termination conditions in the finance agreement.
- Compare the BaaS and battery-included prices on the same basis, with charging and other costs shown separately.
That process keeps the arithmetic useful without overstating what the public figures can tell you. The estimate answers “what does this driving distance multiply to at the reported rate?” The written agreement answers “what will I actually owe, and when?”
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the Harrier.ev BaaS battery charge per kilometre?
Autocar India and Financial Express reported ₹5.9/km for the entry-level 65 kWh Harrier.ev on 28 September 2026. The figure was associated with a 60 km/day usage assumption and should not be presumed to apply to every variant or finance offer.
What would the indicative battery amount be for 1,800 km a month?
At the reported ₹5.9/km entry-trim rate, 1,800 × ₹5.9 equals ₹10,620. This is transparent arithmetic, not a verified monthly invoice or guarantee that the lender bills from actual monthly kilometres.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does the BaaS amount include charging?
No. The reported battery-use estimate excludes charging, maintenance and repairs. Estimate electricity separately using your own charging mix and tariff, and include other costs that apply to your purchase.
Does ₹5.9/km apply to every Harrier.ev version?
The September 2026 reporting associates it with the entry-level 65 kWh version. Tata.ev lists 75 kWh 75 RWD and 75 QWD variants as well, but the reported rate should not be applied to them without a current variant-specific quote.
Is ₹5.9 multiplied by my monthly kilometres definitely my bill?
No. It is an indicative calculation, not a confirmed contract formula. The reports do not establish a universal billing reconciliation, minimum-use rule, tax treatment or early-termination provision. Check the written battery finance agreement for the actual EMI and billing terms.
Does BaaS mean a lower total cost than buying the battery with the car?
The reported 65 kWh entry prices were ₹14.49 lakh with BaaS and ₹21.79 lakh without BaaS, a ₹7.30 lakh upfront difference. That does not establish which option costs less over your ownership period. Compare the actual battery payment and tenure, charging and other excluded costs, taxes and contract terms.
