- Photograph the spot in context. Take a wider view that shows where the mark is in relation to the parked car. If you can do so safely, include enough of the vehicle to make the location understandable.
- Take a closer view. Photograph the spot or visible residue close enough to show its appearance. A second angle can help if the first image does not make the location clear.
- Include visible residue only if it is safe. If you can see residue without moving parts or reaching under the car, photograph it before cleaning. Do not remove panels or disturb components to get a better image.
- Keep the originals. Retain the original image files and make a note of the date and odometer reading associated with them. Avoid edits that change what the image depicts. If you make a copy to mark the location for your own reference, preserve the unaltered original too.
- Bring the files to the appointment. Keep a backup and bring the original files or a clear copy that the service advisor can view. Keep your own copies rather than handing over your only record.
Do not crawl under a car that is not properly supported, and do not touch hot components. A photograph is not worth risking an injury or disturbing evidence that a technician should inspect.
How to keep a simple leak log
Use a note on your phone, a paper record, or a maintenance log book—whatever you can update consistently. Chevrolet’s 2005 U.S. Corvette warranty guide advises retaining maintenance and emergency-repair records; it does not make a log book mandatory. The goal is a clear timeline, not a special format.

These are reasonable requests for a clear service record, not a universal Chevrolet-mandated script or a guarantee of a particular dealer process. Chevrolet directs owners to the dealer and the vehicle’s warranty manual for coverage details. A reproduced GM special-coverage example for certain 2015–2018 Z06 overheating complaints says the dealer should copy customer evidence and file it with that claim. Chevrolet’s current Corvette covered-maintenance page describes one covered maintenance visit, including an oil change and Multi-Point Vehicle Inspection, if completed within the first 24 months of ownership and subject to the page’s conditions. That is an included maintenance benefit, not a warranty period or a commitment to cover a repair for an oil leak. Chevrolet Support also states, “Neither warranty covers routine maintenance.” Whether a diagnosed leak repair is covered is a separate question under the vehicle’s applicable warranty.

Maintenance records remain useful. Chevrolet’s 2005 U.S. Corvette warranty guide says GM would not deny coverage solely because maintenance records were absent, while also explaining that a claim could be denied if failure to perform scheduled maintenance caused a covered part to fail. That is historical wording, not a substitute for the terms on a current vehicle. Chevrolet Europe’s 2015 Camaro/Corvette booklet likewise advised owners to retain evidence of proper maintenance; it applies to a different market and date. For your car, follow its own warranty booklet and keep the records you have.

Keep the repair order and any inspection findings, estimate, or written explanation from the first visit. If you see a new spot afterward, record it as a new dated observation and bring the earlier paperwork to the dealer. Ask the advisor to connect the repeat concern with the earlier visit so the timeline remains clear.
If you disagree with the diagnosis or coverage decision, request the explanation in writing and consult the customer-assistance process in the warranty booklet for your vehicle and market. A 2015 European Camaro/Corvette booklet describes escalation through dealer management and then Chevrolet customer assistance, but its contact details and process are historical and market-specific. Use your own current booklet rather than relying on old contact information.
