The normal AutoSky setup takes a few minutes: connect the adapter to the vehicle’s factory CarPlay USB data port, choose CP/AA if the adapter shows a menu, pair your phone with the AutoSky Bluetooth device, and approve the CarPlay prompts. The key limitation is compatibility: AutoSky’s standard wireless adapters convert wired factory CarPlay to wireless CarPlay; they are not universal CarPlay retrofits.
What you need before connecting AutoSky
AutoSky wireless CarPlay adapters are designed to convert a vehicle’s existing wired CarPlay connection into a wireless one. They generally do not add CarPlay to a vehicle that never supported CarPlay through USB.
- A vehicle with factory-installed, wired Apple CarPlay
- An iPhone with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled
- The AutoSky adapter and a compatible USB data cable
- The vehicle’s CarPlay-capable USB port
If your vehicle has never displayed CarPlay when an iPhone is connected directly by USB, confirm compatibility before troubleshooting the adapter. A charging-only USB port will not work.

AutoSky sells several similar products, and their screens and menus are not identical:
| Model or family | Typical function | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| WUA-series dongles, such as WUA-5 | Wireless CarPlay conversion | Usually a simple pairing screen or direct setup prompt |
| Nano Series | Wireless CarPlay and, on supported vehicles, wireless Android Auto | May show different prompts depending on the phone |
| Sapphire Edition/WUA-8 | Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto | Plug-and-play setup for vehicles with the corresponding wired system |
| CarPlay TV Adapter | Wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and HDMI input | Home screen includes CP/AA and HDMI |
If your AutoSky display includes an HDMI option, follow the TV Adapter instructions below rather than expecting the same menu as a basic WUA-series dongle.

How to connect an AutoSky wireless CarPlay adapter
Pair the adapter while parked. The normal sequence is: connect the adapter to the correct USB port, select CP/AA if shown, pair the phone with the AutoSky Bluetooth device, and approve the CarPlay prompts.
1. Start the vehicle
Turn on the vehicle or infotainment system and leave the car parked during the initial setup. The USB port must provide both power and data communication.
2. Connect AutoSky to the correct USB port
Plug the adapter into the same USB port you previously used for wired CarPlay. If the vehicle has several USB ports, do not assume they all work the same way: some provide charging only, while another is connected to the infotainment system.
Use the cable supplied with the adapter when possible. Depending on the vehicle and model, you may need a USB-A-to-USB-A cable, a USB-A-to-USB-C cable, or the supplied USB-A-to-USB-C adapter. A cable that only supports charging will not establish CarPlay.
3. Choose CP/AA if the adapter shows a home screen
Some AutoSky models show a home screen after they power up. Select CP/AA to start the CarPlay or Android Auto connection.

On the iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on. Also make sure Wi-Fi is enabled in Settings > Wi-Fi. Bluetooth is used to discover and begin pairing with the adapter, while Wi-Fi is needed for the wireless CarPlay connection to operate.
5. Select the AutoSky device
In the iPhone’s Bluetooth device list, select the name shown on the vehicle or adapter display. It may look similar to AutoSky-1234. The four-digit suffix can vary, so use the exact name shown by your unit rather than searching for a particular sample number.
Keep the phone near the adapter during this first connection and avoid selecting an unrelated nearby vehicle, headset or accessory.
6. Accept the pairing and CarPlay prompts
Approve the Bluetooth pairing request. The iPhone may then ask whether you want to use CarPlay with the vehicle or adapter. Accept the CarPlay prompt and allow the permissions required for the features you want, such as contacts, notifications, messages and voice control.

The exact wording varies by iPhone version, vehicle system and AutoSky model. If an Android Auto prompt appears on a dual-purpose model, follow that prompt instead when using an Android phone.
7. Wait for the CarPlay interface
After pairing and approval, the CarPlay interface should appear on the vehicle display. Test navigation, audio playback or a voice-assistant command while the vehicle remains parked. Steering-wheel controls, the factory volume knob and other vehicle controls should continue to work when supported by the vehicle’s original CarPlay system.
If you have an AutoSky TV Adapter
The TV Adapter has a different interface because it also accepts HDMI input. Connect it to the vehicle’s CarPlay-capable USB port, wait for its home screen, and choose CP/AA for wireless CarPlay. Choose HDMI only when you are switching to an attached HDMI media device.
An HDMI device may require its own USB power connection. Also, the TV Adapter’s Wi-Fi connection is not an internet connection. If you use an attached streaming stick or other online media device, it needs internet from a phone hotspot or another available source.

The adapter does not power on
- Confirm that the vehicle and infotainment system are turned on.
- Disconnect and firmly reconnect both ends of the USB cable.
- Use the USB port that worked for wired CarPlay.
- Try another port only if it is data-capable, not charging-only.
- Check that the cable and any USB-A-to-USB-C adapter match the vehicle port.
- Try another compatible data cable if the supplied cable may be damaged.
Do not assume that a reset procedure for one AutoSky model applies to every WUA, Nano, Sapphire or TV Adapter. Use the instructions for the exact model if a power cycle does not help.
The iPhone cannot find AutoSky in Bluetooth
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled and keep the phone close to the adapter.
- Read the Bluetooth name from the adapter or vehicle screen.
- Wait for the adapter to finish starting before searching again.
- In Settings > Bluetooth, remove an old AutoSky entry by tapping the information button and choosing Forget This Device.
- Restart the iPhone and power-cycle the vehicle and adapter.
- Search again using the current device name, including its suffix.
An old saved pairing or a changed four-digit device suffix can prevent the phone from connecting to the correct adapter.
AutoSky pairs, but CarPlay does not appear
- Confirm the vehicle has factory-wired CarPlay, not just a USB charging port.
- Move the adapter to the USB port that supports wired CarPlay.
- Accept any CarPlay approval prompt on the iPhone.
- Leave both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled.
- Forget the AutoSky Bluetooth pairing and repeat the setup from the beginning.
Bluetooth pairing by itself is not proof that the vehicle can communicate with CarPlay. The adapter still needs the vehicle’s original wired CarPlay capability and a functioning data connection through USB.
The connection keeps dropping
- Update the iPhone and the vehicle’s infotainment system where updates are available.
- Restart the phone, vehicle and adapter.
- Forget the AutoSky Bluetooth device and pair it again.
- Check that the USB plug is secure and the cable is not under strain.
- Try the adapter with another compatible phone or vehicle, if available.
- Follow the model-specific reset and firmware instructions for your AutoSky unit.
If the problem follows the adapter to another compatible setup, the adapter or cable is more likely to be involved. If it occurs only in one vehicle, investigate that vehicle’s USB port, infotainment software and wired CarPlay connection.

The screen shows HDMI instead of CarPlay
This is normal when using the AutoSky TV Adapter. Return to its home screen and select CP/AA. HDMI is for an attached media source; wireless CarPlay uses the CP/AA path.
Important compatibility limits
- No factory-wired CarPlay: AutoSky’s standard wireless adapters are not universal CarPlay retrofits. They generally cannot create CarPlay in a vehicle that lacks factory CarPlay.
- Charging-only USB port: Power alone is insufficient. The port and cable must carry data.
- Model differences: Menus, cables, firmware behavior and Android Auto support vary among WUA-series, Nano, Sapphire and TV Adapter models.
- Internet access: The adapter’s wireless connection does not automatically provide internet service. This matters especially when using the TV Adapter with online streaming hardware.
What to buy or replace
If your vehicle already has wired CarPlay, the relevant product is an AutoSky wireless CarPlay adapter or wireless CarPlay adapter for factory-wired CarPlay. Check the exact model and included cable before ordering. A replacement USB cable or USB-A-to-USB-C adapter is only necessary when the supplied cable is missing, damaged or incompatible with the vehicle’s data port.
Choose the TV Adapter only if you specifically need its HDMI function. It is not necessary for ordinary wireless CarPlay pairing and has additional setup requirements for HDMI devices and internet access.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an AutoSky adapter add CarPlay to any car?
No. AutoSky wireless CarPlay adapters are generally designed for vehicles that already have factory-wired CarPlay through USB. They do not normally add CarPlay to a vehicle with no factory CarPlay system.
Which USB port should I use for AutoSky?
Use the vehicle’s USB port that previously worked for wired CarPlay. If there are multiple ports, some may be charging-only and will not provide the data connection the adapter needs.
Does AutoSky use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi?
Yes. The initial discovery and pairing use Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi should remain enabled for wireless CarPlay to complete and operate. Pair with the exact AutoSky name shown on the adapter or vehicle screen.
Why does my AutoSky screen show HDMI instead of CarPlay?
On the TV Adapter, return to the home screen and select CP/AA. HDMI is for an attached HDMI media device, not wireless CarPlay.
The Bottom Line
To connect AutoSky, plug it into the vehicle’s factory CarPlay USB data port, select CP/AA if shown, pair the iPhone with the AutoSky Bluetooth name, and approve the CarPlay prompts. If it will not connect, first verify the two fundamentals: the vehicle must already support wired CarPlay, and the cable and USB port must carry data.
