A used Chrysler 300 can still be worth considering, but judge the specific car—not a model-year reputation. Confirm its configuration by VIN, check recall status, review service records, arrange an independent inspection, and verify that parts likely to be needed can be sourced where you live. No available evidence establishes a universally reliable 300 year or guarantees long-term supply of every part.
Is the Chrysler 300 discontinued?
Yes. Chrysler says the 300 is no longer in production, and production ended in 2023. Stellantis North America reported that the final 300C rolled off the Brampton assembly line on December 8, 2023, and that 2023 Chrysler 300 production would end no later than December 31 of that year. The final 300C was part of an announced limited run of 2,000 vehicles for the United States and 200 for Canada; those production allocations do not indicate how many are available used now.

Discontinuation is relevant to a buyer because new production is over, but it does not by itself tell you whether a particular car is a good purchase or whether a needed part can be obtained. Evaluate the car’s condition and the support available for its exact configuration before committing. Chrysler’s discontinued-model page notes that pre-owned 300s may be available through local dealers. That is a route to look, not a promise that any dealer has a particular year, trim, or price on hand.

Are Chrysler 300 parts still available?
The official Mopar Chrysler 300 parts catalog provides year selection through 2023 and lists categories including maintenance, brakes, engine, electrical, suspension, and accessories. Chrysler also directs owners to local dealers for parts and service. These are useful routes for checking a candidate’s support, not promises that every catalog item is in stock, available in your area, or guaranteed to remain available in the future.
Check fitment and stock for the actual car
- Record the vehicle identity. Note the model year, trim, engine, drivetrain, mileage, VIN, and any modifications. Do not assume a part listed for one 300 fits another.
- Look up the specific item. Use the year- and configuration-specific catalog selection, and confirm the part number against the vehicle’s VIN with a dealer or parts seller when fitment is uncertain.
- Ask about present availability. Before buying the car—or relying on a repair estimate—confirm current stock, ordering options, and expected availability with the seller or dealer. A catalog listing alone does not answer those questions.
- Check likely needs locally. If an inspection identifies a repair or replacement item, verify that exact part rather than trying to predict every future repair. For a car with modifications, tell the parts seller what has been changed.
Parts needs and compatibility can differ across years, trims, engines, and drivetrains. For example, the 2023 catalog includes V6 Touring variants, a V6 S, a 5.7-liter V8 S, and a 6.4-liter V8 C. Treat a listing that says only “Chrysler 300” as a starting point, not a complete fitment description.
Do not try to solve availability by searching only for a broad phrase such as “300 brake part” or “300 engine part.” Start with the finding from an inspection or repair estimate, then use the car’s year and configuration to identify the actual item and its part number. If the seller, mechanic, catalog, and dealer use different descriptions, ask them to reconcile the part number and fitment before placing an order or treating the repair estimate as final.
Ask the local dealer or parts seller a specific question: is the identified part available now for this VIN or configuration, can it be ordered if it is not in stock, and what is the current expected availability? A catalog entry is useful evidence that a lookup route exists; it is not an inventory report. Availability can vary by location, and a current answer should not be treated as a guarantee about future supply.
If no immediate repair has been identified, avoid trying to forecast a complete lifetime parts list. The practical test is whether likely needs identified during a mechanic’s inspection can be addressed at a cost and on a timeline that fit your plans. The available information does not provide a price list for Chrysler 300 parts, a local stock report, or a promise about future availability. Get a current quote for the exact item rather than assuming either that parts are prohibitively scarce or that every repair will be straightforward.
Which Chrysler 300 year is most reliable?
The evidence available does not support a definitive “best year” or “years to avoid” list covering 2005–2023. Consumer Reports describes the 2018 Chrysler 300 as having about average reliability compared with other cars from the same model year, while warning that some model years have too few reports for statistically confident conclusions. That is a limited, model-year-specific comparison—not a prediction that every 2018 example is reliable, and not a ranking of the full 300 range.
For a buying decision, give more weight to the candidate’s maintenance records, completed recall remedies, inspection findings, condition, mileage, and repair prospects than to a blanket year ranking. Missing records create uncertainty to investigate; they do not, by themselves, prove that the car has a defect.
“About average” is a comparison with other cars from the same model year, not a claim that a 2018 300 will be trouble-free, cheaper to repair, or more dependable than every other 300. Consumer Reports also cautions that some years have too few reports to support statistically confident conclusions. That limitation matters when a buyer sees a confident-sounding online ranking based on a small or unclear sample. A model-year label cannot tell you whether the individual car was maintained, whether a recall remedy was completed, or what an inspection will find.
If you are choosing between years, use the year as one identifier among several rather than a verdict. Compare the two actual vehicles: their configuration, mileage, records, VIN-specific recall status, inspection results, and repair needs. The available reliability information does not establish a universal best year or a definitive avoid list for the complete 2005–2023 range, so do not let an unsupported ranking outweigh evidence from the cars in front of you.

How to assess a Chrysler 300 before buying
1. Establish exactly what the listing is
Write down the year, trim, engine, drivetrain, mileage, and VIN before comparing prices or checking parts. Record modifications as well. These details help distinguish vehicles that share the 300 name but may have different equipment, service needs, or part fitment. Ask the seller to resolve discrepancies between the listing, paperwork, and vehicle before you proceed.
Use the VIN consistently when you contact a dealer, check a recall, or ask about a part. If a listing omits the VIN, request it before making a decision that depends on vehicle-specific information. Do not rely on a trim badge or a generic online description alone to settle an uncertain configuration. If the paperwork, listing, or seller’s account does not agree, pause and ask for clarification; an unresolved identity question can undermine a parts lookup, a recall check, and a price comparison.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesNote whether the car has been modified and tell the mechanic and parts seller what you know. A modification may affect which part is appropriate or how a prior repair should be assessed. The point is not to assume that a modified car is automatically unsuitable, but to ensure that the people assessing it have an accurate description rather than applying a generic fitment assumption.
2. Check open recalls by VIN
Search the candidate’s VIN through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall lookup or Mopar’s official recall search. A general model-year recall list cannot establish the status of this particular car. NHTSA says a recall does not expire, so ask for documentation showing that an applicable remedy was completed. If a result is unclear, contact a dealer with the VIN and ask what remains outstanding.
Do the search for each candidate separately. Two cars with the same model year and trim do not share a single recall status merely because their descriptions match. Save or note the result and compare it with the seller’s records. If a recall appears, ask whether the remedy is complete and request documentation. A seller’s assurance can be useful context, but it is not the same as a VIN-specific result and proof of completed work.
NHTSA’s statement that recalls do not expire is important for an older used car: do not dismiss an open recall because the vehicle is several years old or because a previous owner may have received a notice. If you cannot tell from the lookup whether the remedy has been completed, ask a dealer to clarify the status using the VIN. Treat unresolved recall status as a question to answer before purchase, not as a detail to assume away.

3. Read the records as a timeline
Ask for dated invoices and service documentation, not just a verbal description of the car’s history. Look for evidence of routine service, major repairs, and recall work, and note gaps that need an explanation. Compare the documents with the seller’s account and the car’s current condition. Records can help establish what has been done; they cannot guarantee what condition the vehicle is in today.
Build a simple timeline from the documents you receive. Note the date, mileage if recorded, work described, and whether the invoice identifies the vehicle clearly. Compare this with the odometer and the seller’s account. The goal is not to infer a defect from a missing page or to treat a stack of invoices as a warranty. It is to see what is documented, what remains uncertain, and what a mechanic should check during the inspection.
Pay particular attention to whether the records support claims about significant repairs or recall work. If the seller says a repair was made but cannot provide documentation, ask what shop performed it and whether any invoice or other proof is available. If the seller cannot fill a gap, record it as uncertainty and weigh it alongside the inspection, mileage, price, and likely repair prospects. Missing history is not proof of a defect, but it gives you less evidence to rely on.

4. Arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection
Have a qualified independent mechanic inspect the specific vehicle before purchase. Ask the mechanic to assess mechanical and electrical condition, scan available systems, inspect for leaks and prior repairs, and explain the significance and likely cost of any findings. Request that concerns be tied to the car’s VIN and configuration so you can follow up on parts and repair estimates accurately.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteGive the mechanic the VIN and the listing’s stated year, trim, engine, drivetrain, and modifications. Ask for a written explanation of findings, especially where the mechanic identifies a repair, needs further diagnosis, or cannot determine a part fitment without more information. A useful inspection does not simply produce a pass-or-fail label; it helps you distinguish what appears sound, what needs attention, and what remains uncertain. You can then ask a dealer or seller about parts and obtain an estimate for work that is actually indicated.
There is no inspection fee or repair-price figure established here, so request the inspection price and any follow-up diagnostic charges from the mechanic in advance. Likewise, ask for repair estimates based on the finding rather than relying on a generic online cost. A quote should identify the relevant work and parts for the specific configuration; confirm current parts availability separately before making the purchase decision.
A consumer OBD-II scanner can be an optional aid for reading diagnostic trouble codes that are available to the scanner. The Chrysler owner handbook discusses diagnostic procedures and tools, but a scan is not a reliability verdict: it cannot establish that every fault has been found or that the car is mechanically sound. Use scan information as one input alongside the inspection, records, and recall check.
If you use a scanner yourself, treat its output as a prompt for follow-up rather than as a substitute for a mechanic’s assessment. A scanner only reads codes available to that tool; absence of a displayed code does not establish that no problem exists. A code also does not, by itself, determine the cause, repair, or parts needed. Ask the mechanic to interpret relevant findings and explain whether further diagnosis is needed. Keep the recall search separate: recall status is checked by VIN through NHTSA or Mopar, not settled by a generic scan.
5. Price the whole ownership proposition
Compare more than asking price. Consider condition, mileage, documented maintenance, trim and powertrain, recall completion, inspection findings, expected fuel and repair budget, and whether parts for likely needs can be sourced locally. If a repair is identified, obtain a configuration-specific estimate and confirm availability before treating the quoted repair cost as settled.
There is no one purchase-price threshold or repair-cost figure that applies to every 300 in the information available here. Make the comparison concrete by collecting the asking price, inspection fee, any identified repair estimate, and the current availability answer for parts tied to that repair. Add your own expected fuel and repair budget based on your use and finances rather than assuming a particular engine or trim will fit every budget. If a seller’s price seems attractive but a significant inspection finding has no confirmed parts route or repair estimate, the apparent bargain is still an unanswered question.
For a car with no major finding, use the inspection and records to understand what is known and what remains uncertain. For a car that needs work, ask the mechanic to distinguish urgent findings from items that need further assessment, and contact a parts source about the identified items. Do not count an unverified catalog listing as a confirmed repair plan. Your decision should reflect the total proposition—purchase, expected fuel and repair budget, and confidence that likely needs can be addressed—not just a comparison of sticker prices.
How engine and drivetrain affect the comparison
The 300 is not one uniform configuration. Chrysler’s 2023 FAQ gives manufacturer-estimated curb weights that vary by engine and drivetrain:

| 2023 configuration | Manufacturer-estimated curb weight |
|---|---|
| V6, rear-wheel drive | 3,980 pounds |
| V6, all-wheel drive | 4,250 pounds |
| V8 | 4,360 pounds |
These are Chrysler’s estimates, not measurements of every individual vehicle. They illustrate why two listings should be compared by actual configuration rather than nameplate alone; they do not establish that one powertrain is more reliable or cheaper to maintain. Confirm engine and drivetrain from the vehicle’s documentation and VIN, then use those details in parts and service inquiries.
Chrysler’s 2023 parts catalog includes V6 Touring models, a V6 S, a 5.7-liter V8 S, and a 6.4-liter V8 C. The range itself is a reminder to verify a candidate’s actual equipment instead of inferring it from the model name. The weight figures are manufacturer estimates and should not be used as a substitute for checking the individual car’s documentation. They provide context for the differences between some configurations, not a reliability ranking or a forecast of repair expense.
When comparing a V6 car with a V8, or rear-wheel drive with all-wheel drive, do not assume that one is a better buy simply because of the configuration. The figures above do not say which one will be cheaper to maintain, more reliable, or easier to find parts for in your area. Check each vehicle separately, and make the parts inquiry using that car’s year, trim, engine, drivetrain, and VIN. A seller’s broad description should not be treated as enough detail for fitment.

Resolve material unknowns before deciding: an unverified recall remedy, unexplained record gap, inspection concern, or unavailable part may change the value of the car. If a seller will not allow an independent inspection or provide the VIN for a recall check, you have less evidence with which to judge the purchase.
Use the same questions for each candidate so the comparison is fair. Ask each seller for the VIN, records, and permission for an independent inspection; run a recall lookup for each VIN; and make the same configuration-specific parts inquiries for any repairs identified. One car may have more miles but better documented upkeep, while another may have fewer miles but unanswered questions. The facts available here do not justify turning one of those factors into an automatic rule. Weigh the evidence together.
Keep confirmed facts separate from assumptions in your notes. For example, a completed recall remedy supported by documentation is different from a seller’s recollection; a mechanic’s inspection finding is different from a generic model-year rating; and a dealer’s current stock confirmation is different from a catalog entry. This makes it easier to see which candidate has fewer material unknowns, rather than letting a confident seller or a single attractive feature dominate the decision.
When an important answer is missing, decide whether it can be checked before purchase. A recall question can be taken to a VIN lookup or dealer; a parts question can be put to a local seller with the exact part number; and a condition question can be addressed through an independent inspection. If it cannot be resolved, count it as uncertainty in your comparison rather than silently treating it as settled. The appropriate choice depends on your budget and tolerance for uncertainty, not on a universal rule about a particular year.

What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you
- It can establish: Chrysler 300 production ended in 2023; official year-specific parts lookup remains available through Mopar’s catalog; recalls can be checked by VIN; and a model-year reliability data point exists for 2018.
- It cannot establish: guaranteed future parts supply, local stock for a specific repair, the condition of an individual used car, or a reliable ranking of every 300 model year.
That distinction matters in practice. Use official lookup tools to identify what to ask about, then confirm status and availability with the relevant dealer or seller. Use records and an independent inspection to assess the car itself rather than treating a catalog, scanner, or broad reliability label as proof.

This car obd2 scanner diagnostic tool is equipped with I/M readiness function to check the operations of the e-m-issi0n system on OBD2 compliant vehicles, run I/M monitor readiness test, checking if the pass vehicle s-m-0-g inspection.
Likewise, the 2018 Consumer Reports result is not a substitute for an inspection or a guarantee about the next used 300 you consider. It is a qualified, same-model-year comparison, and the stated sample-size caution limits what can be inferred. Official parts lookup is a useful starting point, but only a current, fitment-specific conversation can answer whether an identified item is available to you now. Keep each source of information within its limits.
The practical standard is not certainty about every future repair; a used car cannot be judged that way from a listing. It is enough evidence to decide whether the particular car’s known condition, maintenance record, recall status, repair prospects, and price fit your needs. If critical questions remain, seek answers before purchase where possible, or recognize the uncertainty when deciding whether to proceed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Chrysler 300 discontinued?
Yes. Chrysler says the 300 is no longer in production. Stellantis North America reported that the final 300C rolled off the Brampton line on December 8, 2023, and that 2023 production would end no later than December 31, 2023.
Are Chrysler 300 parts still available?
The official Mopar catalog provides year selection through 2023 and lists multiple parts categories, and Chrysler directs owners to local dealers for parts and service. That does not guarantee a particular part is in stock or will remain available. Check the exact part number and fitment for the car’s year, trim, engine, drivetrain, and VIN, then confirm current local availability.
Which Chrysler 300 year is most reliable?
The evidence here does not establish a definitive best year or years to avoid across 2005–2023. Consumer Reports describes the 2018 300 as about average compared with other cars from the same model year and cautions that some years have too few reports for statistically confident conclusions. Assess the specific car’s records, recall status, condition, and inspection findings.
What should I check before buying a used Chrysler 300?
Record the year, trim, engine, drivetrain, mileage, VIN, and modifications; check recalls by VIN through NHTSA or Mopar; review dated maintenance and repair records; arrange an independent inspection; and confirm availability for parts tied to any identified repair. Compare asking price with condition and your expected fuel and repair budget.
Does an OBD-II scan prove a Chrysler 300 is reliable?
No. A consumer scanner can read diagnostic trouble codes available to that tool, but it cannot show that every fault has been found or certify that the car is mechanically sound. Treat scan information as one input alongside records, a VIN-specific recall check, and an independent inspection.
Do Chrysler 300 recalls expire?
NHTSA states that once a vehicle has been recalled, the recall never expires. Check the specific car’s VIN through NHTSA or Mopar and ask for documentation that any applicable remedy was completed. If the result is unclear, contact a dealer with the VIN.
Are all 2023 Chrysler 300 parts interchangeable?
Do not assume so. The 2023 catalog includes V6 Touring variants, a V6 S, a 5.7-liter V8 S, and a 6.4-liter V8 C. Confirm the part number against the car’s year and configuration, and use the VIN with a dealer or parts seller when fitment is uncertain.
The Bottom Line
A used Chrysler 300 may be worth considering, but make the decision on evidence about the individual car. Verify its VIN and configuration, check recalls, review dated records, get an independent inspection, and confirm current local availability for parts tied to any identified needs. Chrysler 300 production ended in 2023, but neither that fact nor a model-year reliability label can determine whether a specific car is a sound purchase.
