The account comes from automotive reporting that quotes then-Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis; it is not a documented chronology from Dodge’s internal design archive.
How did the Hellcat logo evolve?
The early Challenger SRT Hellcat was unveiled without the familiar cat-head emblem. Dodge had planned to use “supercharged” lettering instead. According to Stephen Edelstein’s May 13, 2015 report for Motor Authority, Dodge monitored social-media reactions to the Hellcat logo and decided to put it on production cars after fans responded favorably. The press-unveiling cars lacked the badge, and early Charger images still showed the “supercharged” marking.
Edelstein quoted Kuniskis explaining the switch: “That was a very last-minute change all driven by feedback on social media.” The quote supports the basic story, but it is a journalist’s quotation of the CEO, not a transcript or design record published by Dodge.
What did the early logo concepts look like?
Motor Authority described early sketches with more than one possible direction: one resembled an angry house cat, while another could be mistaken for the Voltron logo. The report does not identify the individual designer or provide a dated sequence showing how each draft became the production badge. Those descriptions are examples, not a complete catalog of concepts.

Where does the Hellcat emblem go?
Hellcat branding appears in different formats and locations depending on the vehicle and part. Car and Driver groups replacement and display badges into three broad types:
- Fender emblems: badges mounted on the front fenders.
- Grille nameplates: plates mounted in the grille; Challenger and Charger versions differ in size.
- Deck-lid nameplates: badges mounted at the rear of the car.
Car and Driver’s badge guide advises choosing a location and part that suit the vehicle, then checking exact model-year and trim fitment. Mopar’s official eStore has catalog examples for particular vehicles, including 2022 Challenger Hellcat Redeye and 2023 Hellcat Jailbreak listings. Such listings are model-specific examples, not confirmation of current stock or universal compatibility.

Why does some Hellcat badge have a red eye?
The red-eye detail is documented for the 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, not as a universal feature of every Hellcat badge. Dodge’s 2019 Challenger brochure describes the Redeye fender badge as having a “sinister Red jewel-like eye design.” It also notes a new die-cast SRT emblem on the supercharger housing that showcases the Redeye logo. The brochure’s availability statements apply to the countries specified there, not automatically to every market.
Is the Hellcat logo a protected Dodge mark?
Mopar’s trademark information identifies the SRT Hellcat design as a trademark and lists Challenger SRT Hellcat among FCA US LLC trademarks. The badge is therefore a protected brand design, not simply a generic cat illustration.

What to check before replacing a Hellcat badge
Before ordering, compare the badge location, vehicle, model year, trim, and styling version. Genuine Mopar catalog entries can help identify a model-specific part, but verify the part number and fitment for the exact car rather than assuming another Hellcat badge will fit.
Car and Driver’s general replacement guidance recommends cleaning the area, recording the original badge angle, and marking the intended placement. Its suggestions for removal include a heat gun and fish wire; grille-badge work may call for trim or prying tools. These are general editorial pointers, not vehicle-specific service procedures. Consult the owner’s manual or a repair guide for the particular model before removing or installing a badge.
