The Buick Envista marks an end of an era in a specific sense: it represents Buick’s move toward a crossover-focused lineup, modern design and what the company calls “attainable luxury.” It does not mean Buick is ending. By 2025, the company said all four of its U.S. nameplates had been refreshed, and General Motors reported Buick sales growth in both 2023 and 2024.
What the Envista says about Buick today
Buick introduced the Envista as a 2024-model-year small crossover, placing it at the approachable end of the brand’s premium lineup. The launch offered three trims—Preferred, Sport Touring and Avenir—with Avenir extending Buick’s premium ladder. The car was not simply a new model: Buick said it was the first vehicle to fully adopt the brand’s modern design language.
That combination helps explain the “end of an era” framing. Buick has long traded on a traditional American luxury identity; the Envista presents a more contemporary expression built around crossovers, streamlined styling and accessible premium positioning. The shift is about how Buick presents itself and which vehicles anchor its lineup, not the disappearance of the company.
How Buick changed its identity
In 2024, GM described a broader brand evolution through a new tri-shield badge treatment, the “Exceptional by design” tagline and design cues inspired by the Wildcat EV concept. The company framed its approach as “attainable luxury” and identified Avenir as the highest expression of Buick luxury. These are Buick’s own positioning claims, not an independent ranking of the brand’s luxury status.

Molly Peck, chief marketing officer for Global Buick and GMC, said the Wildcat EV design language had reached production on the 2024 Encore GX and all-new Envista, adding: “we’ve found that beautiful design and quiet luxury sets Buick apart from the competition.” The Envista’s role was therefore both practical and symbolic: it introduced the new look in a relatively small crossover that could reach buyers seeking a premium feel without starting at the top of the range.
What the 2024 Envista offered
Buick’s April 2023 announcement described the 2024 Envista as a front-wheel-drive vehicle across all three trims, powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine and six-speed automatic transmission. The announcement listed 20.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and 42 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

At launch, Buick listed 2024-model-year MSRPs of $23,495 for Preferred, $25,195 for Sport Touring and $29,695 for Avenir, before applicable taxes, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment. These are historical launch prices, not current pricing. Buick estimated 30 mpg combined for the launch model; the company said EPA estimates were not yet available when it announced the vehicle, so that figure should not be mistaken for an EPA rating or current model-year specification.
Duncan Aldred, then global vice president of Buick and GMC, described the Envista’s proposition as “stunning design, standard technology and premium affordability.” That statement captures the intended balance: an entry point into Buick’s premium identity rather than a claim that the Envista replaces the brand’s larger or more expensive vehicles.

A portfolio reset, not a corporate ending
In an interview published in April 2025, Jaclyn McQuaid, GM global vice president for Buick and GMC, said: “All four Buick nameplates – Envista, Encore GX, Envision, and Enclave – have been refreshed over the past 18 months.” That is evidence of a coordinated lineup update, not evidence that Buick is going out of business.
The 2025 Enclave reinforces the continuity. GM called it Buick’s flagship and said its launch completed the updated internal-combustion portfolio. The Envista and Enclave occupy different roles, but together they show Buick’s effort to span an accessible small crossover through a larger flagship SUV while carrying a refreshed identity across the range.

What Buick’s sales figures do—and do not—show
GM News reported that Buick sales rose 61% in 2023 and another 10% in 2024. The same 2025 newsletter said Envista fourth-quarter sales were up 57%, without clearly stating the comparison basis in the cited passage, and that 72% of Buick’s 2024 buyers were new to the brand. These are company-published figures, not independent market estimates; they complicate a narrative of imminent decline but do not by themselves establish long-term success.
In the 2025 interview, McQuaid also said Buick had recorded nine consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth at the time, and that the Envista’s average customer was seven years younger than Buick owners overall. Both are GM statements tied to that interview, rather than a current measure or independent demographic study. McQuaid characterized the Envista as a leading internal-combustion conquest product, another company view of the model’s role in attracting customers.

So, is Buick still a luxury brand?
Buick still presents itself as a premium brand, using terms such as “attainable luxury” and elevating Avenir as its highest luxury expression. Whether a particular shopper considers Buick a luxury brand depends on the comparison being made; the company’s marketing language alone does not settle that broader classification. The Envista makes the current strategy easy to see: modern crossover design and premium cues are being offered across a refreshed lineup, with the small Envista serving as an accessible entry point.
The most defensible meaning of “end of an era” is therefore a change in Buick’s product and brand identity. The Envista is a visible marker of that transition, while the refreshed nameplates, flagship Enclave and GM-reported sales growth make clear that the story is one of reinvention—not a confirmed ending.
