How the Air 30 Ultra’s automatic shifting works
Instead of asking the rider to change gears manually, the Air 30 Ultra integrates an automatic shifting system into its in-wheel motor. ADO describes that motor as co-developed with Bafang. The design combines motor assistance and gear changes in one assembly, rather than using a conventional external derailleur setup for those shifts. ADO’s Air 30 product page identifies the Ultra as the three-speed version.
Reported shift speeds
New Atlas reported that the motor shifts from first to second gear at 13 km/h (about 8 mph), then into third at 19 km/h (about 12 mph). These are the outlet’s reported shift points, not results from an independently documented controlled test. New Atlas reported the figures on February 26, 2025.
The sources establish the three-speed configuration and those reported speeds, but do not detail whether rider cadence, load, terrain, or other conditions alter the shift behavior. They also do not establish how quickly shifts occur or whether they can be overridden.

Air 30 Pro vs. Air 30 Ultra
The gear-count distinction matters when identifying which Air 30 is being discussed: ADO lists the Pro as a two-speed model and the Ultra as a three-speed model. Both are presented within the Air 30 line, but the automatic three-speed configuration described in the title refers specifically to the Ultra.

ADO’s product page lists 250 W rated power, 40 Nm torque, and a 25 km/h pedal-assist speed specification. It advertises a maximum range of up to 100 km. These are manufacturer-listed specifications and a maximum range claim, not independently measured performance figures. Regulations and real-world range can vary by market, rider, terrain, and conditions; the cited product information does not establish a real-world range test.

ADO also lists a torque sensor, carbon belt drive, Eco and Sport modes, hydraulic disc brakes, and GPS anti-theft features. They provide context for the bike’s broader equipment, but do not by themselves demonstrate how smooth or effective the automatic gear changes feel.

Automatic shifts can reduce the need for a rider to manage gear changes while accelerating, which is the practical idea behind the Air 30 Ultra’s system. But “silky” is a ride-quality characterization, not a result demonstrated by the cited product specifications or New Atlas’s reported shift points. The available sources do not provide controlled or independent tests of acceleration smoothness, efficiency, durability, or comparative performance against another e-bike design.
