The 2025 Tesla Model 3 Performance and Hyundai IONIQ 5 N offer very different takes on a fast electric car: Tesla’s is a sedan with a longer EPA-estimated range, while Hyundai’s is a performance SUV with a short-duration power boost and a published 2025 starting MSRP. Their manufacturers’ specifications favor different priorities, and the available figures are not a controlled head-to-head test.
At a glance: two different kinds of performance EV
| Specification | 2025 Tesla Model 3 Performance | 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N |

| Manufacturer acceleration figure | 0–60 mph in 2.9 seconds, according to Tesla. Test conditions are not stated on the cited page. | A directly comparable 0–60 mph figure is not stated on Hyundai’s cited pages. |
| EPA-estimated range | 309 miles, according to Tesla’s current Model 3 Performance specifications page, accessed in 2026. It does not establish a 2025-specific configuration. | 221 miles for the 2025 IONIQ 5 N, according to Hyundai. |

Performance: Tesla’s acceleration claim versus Hyundai’s boost mode
Tesla Model 3 Performance
Tesla lists a 2.9-second 0–60 mph time for the Model 3 Performance and dual-motor AWD. That acceleration figure is Tesla’s manufacturer claim; the cited page does not describe a test protocol, so it should not be treated as directly measured under conditions matching another manufacturer’s figure.
Hyundai IONIQ 5 N
Hyundai lists 601 hp as standard output and up to 641 hp when N Grin Boost is engaged. The boost maximum is available for 10 seconds, so it is not a continuous-power rating. Hyundai’s specifications do not provide a directly comparable acceleration time in the cited material. Horsepower and a 0–60 mph time describe different aspects of performance and cannot, by themselves, establish which car is quicker in a particular test.

Range: Tesla has the higher published EPA estimate
Tesla lists 309 miles of EPA-estimated range for the Model 3 Performance on its current specifications page; Hyundai lists 221 EPA-estimated miles for the 2025 IONIQ 5 N. The Tesla page retrieved for this comparison does not establish a 2025-specific configuration, so its figure should be understood as the current Model 3 Performance listing rather than proof of an identical 2025 configuration.

EPA estimates are standardized estimates, not promises of distance in everyday driving. Tesla notes that actual range can vary with vehicle configuration, speed, weather, elevation and other factors. The vehicles’ estimates also reflect different models and configurations; they do not predict the result of a same-day road test. For Hyundai, use the N-specific figure rather than range figures from the non-N IONIQ 5, which is a different model.

Charging: a peak rate is not a charging-time comparison
Tesla lists a maximum Supercharging rate of 250 kW but the cited Model 3 Performance page does not provide a matching 10–80% time under the same charger and battery conditions as Hyundai’s estimates. A peak-power number alone cannot show how long a full charging stop takes.
For the 2025 IONIQ 5 N, Hyundai estimates a 10–80% charge in 18 minutes on a 350 kW 800V CCS fast charger, and 30 minutes on a specified 150 kW 400V NACS Supercharger. Hyundai also lists 7 hours 20 minutes for Level II AC charging from 10% to 100%. These are manufacturer estimates for different charging equipment and conditions, not a controlled comparison with Tesla’s maximum rate. Actual charging can vary with factors including charger capability, battery temperature and state of charge.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Price: Hyundai publishes a 2025 MSRP; Tesla’s comparable figure is not established
Hyundai lists a $66,200 starting MSRP for the 2025 IONIQ 5 N. That price excludes freight, tax, title and license, and dealer prices can vary. The Tesla page used here lists specifications but does not establish a comparable 2025 US MSRP or a current transaction price. A fair price verdict therefore requires a current, same-market quote for the specific Tesla model year and configuration; the available figures do not support claiming that one costs less to buy.

Body style and daily-use fit
The Model 3 Performance is a sedan, while the IONIQ 5 N is a performance SUV. That distinction may matter as much as the headline figures: consider whether a sedan or SUV best suits your passenger and cargo needs. Tesla lists 24 cubic feet of cargo capacity for the Model 3 Performance, but the cited Hyundai material does not provide a directly comparable IONIQ 5 N cargo measurement, so this comparison cannot quantify a cargo-space winner.
Tesla also lists a 4,054-pound curb mass and 20-inch Warp wheels for the Model 3 Performance. Comparable values are not established here for the IONIQ 5 N, so they should not be used to infer a weight or wheel advantage. Source: Tesla Model 3 Performance specifications.
Quick Recap
Which one fits your priorities?
- Choose the Model 3 Performance as the stronger match if range is your priority: Tesla’s cited listing has the higher EPA estimate, at 309 miles versus Hyundai’s 221 miles. Keep in mind the Tesla page is current rather than a confirmed 2025-specific configuration, and neither number guarantees real-world range.
- Consider the IONIQ 5 N if you want an SUV and Hyundai’s N performance features: Hyundai lists standard 601 hp and a 10-second N Grin Boost mode with up to 641 hp, plus charging-time estimates for specified equipment.
- Do not decide on price from this comparison alone: Hyundai publishes a 2025 starting MSRP, while a comparable 2025 Tesla price is not established here. Compare current dealer and manufacturer quotes for the exact model year and configuration.
- For track use, look for repeated-lap evidence: Advertised power and acceleration specifications do not establish sustained performance or track durability. The cited manufacturer pages do not provide an independent, controlled track comparison.
