The 2026 Ducati DesertX and Monster are both redesigned around Ducati’s 890 cc V2 engine, but they are not competing versions of the same motorcycle. The DesertX gets adventure-focused hardware and controls; the road-oriented Monster emphasizes a lighter package, accessible ergonomics, and updated electronics. The improvements described here are Ducati’s specifications and claims, not independently verified test results.
What is new on the 2026 Ducati DesertX?
Ducati calls the 2026 DesertX the second generation of its travel enduro. Its redesign centers on the 890 cc V2 and a monocoque frame, with long-travel suspension, a 21-inch front wheel, and off-road riding modes. Ducati says the changes are intended to improve off-road performance while retaining road usability. Its published figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Ducati’s DesertX specifications
Off-road hardware
- Suspension: fully adjustable 46 mm KYB front fork and adjustable KYB rear shock, with 230 mm of front travel and 220 mm rear.
- Wheels and tires: tubeless spoked 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Rally Street tires in 90/90 front and 150/70 rear sizes.
- Weight: 209 kg without fuel, according to Ducati.
Engine and controls
Ducati lists the 890 cc V2 at 110 hp at 9,000 rpm and 92 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. Its electronic package includes a six-axis IMU, switchable ABS with four levels of cornering functionality, traction control, wheelie control, Quick Shift 2.0, and Engine Brake Control. Riders can choose Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Enduro, or Rally mode.
Tank capacity is given differently in Ducati’s regional material: the European announcement lists 18 L, while the North American source says 8 US gallons. Those are market-specific published figures, so check the specification for the motorcycle sold in your country rather than assuming one figure applies everywhere.

What changed on the 2026 Ducati Monster?
Ducati describes the 2026 Monster as the fifth generation of its naked bike. It adopts the 890 cc V2 and a monocoque frame, alongside Showa suspension, a 5-inch TFT display, and revised electronics. Ducati’s production announcement says the new layout cuts four kilograms compared with the previous Monster; that is a manufacturer claim, not a comparative weighing. Lower claimed weight and more adaptable seat height
Ducati lists the Monster at 175 kg without fuel. Its standard seat height is 815 mm; Ducati says it can be reduced to 775 mm with the low seat and accessory lowering kit. The two-part accessory setup matters: the lower figure is not the standard seat height.

Road-focused engine, tires, and electronics
For the USA version, Ducati lists the 890 cc V2 at 110.7 hp (81.4 kW) at 9,000 rpm and 91.1 Nm at 7,250 rpm. Ducati’s broader specification gives the power as 111 CV. Standard tires are Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV, 120/70 front and 180/55 rear. The electronics include a six-axis IMU, cornering ABS, traction and wheelie control, Quick Shift 2.0, and Engine Brake Control. The four riding modes are Sport, Road, Urban, and Wet.
The Monster+ adds a cowl and passenger-seat cover, according to Ducati. These are styling pieces, not a different engine or riding-mode package.

How are the 2026 DesertX and Monster different?
The shared engine size and frame concept do not make these direct substitutes. Ducati equips the DesertX for mixed-surface adventure riding and the Monster for road use. The different wheel sizes, suspension travel, tires, modes, and riding position priorities are more useful comparison points than the small differences between their published engine figures.
| Published specification | 2026 DesertX | 2026 Monster |
|---|---|---|
| Intended emphasis | Adventure and off-road riding | Road-oriented naked bike |
| Engine | 890 cc V2 | 890 cc V2 |
| Published power | 110 hp at 9,000 rpm | 111 CV; USA version: 110.7 hp (81.4 kW) at 9,000 rpm |
| Maximum torque | 92 Nm at 7,000 rpm | 91.1 Nm at 7,250 rpm |
| Weight without fuel | 209 kg | 175 kg; Ducati says this is 4 kg less than the previous Monster |
| Front/rear wheel setup | 21/18-inch tubeless spoked wheels | Road setup; tire sizes are 120/70 front and 180/55 rear |
| Suspension travel | 230 mm front, 220 mm rear | Not stated in the cited Ducati specifications |
| Modes | Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Enduro, Rally | Sport, Road, Urban, Wet |
| Seat height | Not stated in the cited DesertX specifications | 815 mm standard; 775 mm with low seat and accessory lowering kit |
For rough tracks and longer-travel suspension, the DesertX’s wheel and chassis setup is the relevant distinction. For a road-focused bike, the Monster pairs road tires with a lower seat option and a Ducati-claimed 175 kg weight without fuel. These published numbers do not establish which bike feels easier or performs better in real riding; that requires a rider and conditions-specific comparison.
