There is no defensible single Stellantis brand winner across reliability, warranty coverage, and repair costs in the available evidence. The figures measure different things, come from different years and markets, and do not predict the experience of every vehicle from a brand. For a useful comparison, start with the exact model, model year, powertrain, and country—and treat brand-level results as screening signals, not guarantees.
What the available comparisons can—and cannot—tell you
Stellantis identifies 14 automotive brands in its global portfolio. Three separate questions matter when choosing a car: how often it develops problems, what its warranty covers, and how much owners pay to maintain and repair it. Those are related, but not interchangeable. A new-car quality study records early problems; a reliability survey collects reports about trouble over a broader ownership period; repair-cost analysis measures spending over time; and a warranty describes who may pay for certain failures under specified conditions.

- Vehicle configuration: Compare the same model generation and similar engine or electrified powertrain and trim where possible.
Without those distinctions, a ranking can sound more conclusive than it is. A brand result may help decide what to investigate, but it cannot establish how reliable a particular vehicle will be or what that vehicle will cost to own.

A useful way to organize the decision is to keep three columns rather than calculate one blended score. Put the reliability result in one column with its source and measure, repair spending in another with its time horizon, and warranty terms in a third with the market and conditions. If an entry is unknown, mark it unknown instead of treating missing information as either favorable or unfavorable.
That discipline matters for Stellantis because the figures below do not cover the same brands or vehicles. Consumer Reports supplies a Chrysler brand-level result, while J.D. Power’s cited result concerns Ram’s initial quality. Neither one is a comparison of every Stellantis model using a common sample, year, or scoring system.
Reliability: the evidence is not one shared score
Consumer Reports’ survey-based rankings
Consumer Reports says its annual Auto Surveys received responses on about 380,000 vehicles in its 2025 surveys. The survey covered model years 2000 through 2025, plus a few 2026 vehicles. Owners report problems they consider serious within defined trouble spots; the methodology includes problems covered by warranty. This is owner-reported evidence collected across many model years, rather than a controlled test of new vehicles alone.

Consumer Reports’ 2026 Chrysler brand page places Chrysler 22nd for new-car reliability, 23rd for used-car reliability, and 13th for maintenance and repair cost. These are brand-level positions, not model-specific reliability scores. The rankings do not establish that each Chrysler model shares the same outcome, nor do they supply a reason to predict the performance of a particular engine, generation, or model year without more specific evidence.
The survey’s scale is useful context, but sample size does not erase the need to read what the result measures. It represents member reports across a broad range of model years, not a fresh road test of every new vehicle or a count of failures from a single model year. Because the survey includes warranty-covered problems, a repair being paid for by the manufacturer does not mean the underlying issue disappears from the reported-problem picture.
J.D. Power’s initial-quality result for Ram
J.D. Power’s 2024 U.S. Initial Quality Study ranked Ram highest overall, with 148 problems per 100 vehicles. Initial quality is about problems reported early in ownership; it is not a long-term dependability measure and does not report repair spending. The result is therefore not a direct counterpoint to Consumer Reports’ 2026 Chrysler reliability rankings: the sources, years, brands, and measures differ.
Put plainly, Ram’s 2024 initial-quality result does not prove it is the most reliable Stellantis brand over years of ownership, and Chrysler’s Consumer Reports positions do not tell you how a Ram will perform. Neither result is a universal verdict for all vehicles from either make.

Problems per 100 vehicles is the study’s stated unit, not a percentage of vehicles that experienced a problem. It should be repeated as reported rather than converted into a claim that a particular share of Ram owners had trouble. The result can be a relevant early-ownership signal for the study’s U.S. context, but it does not answer how a used vehicle will fare later or what its repairs will cost.
How to read reliability results before buying
- Look for the exact model and model year, not only the make-level ranking.
- Check whether the measure covers early ownership problems, owner-reported trouble over time, or a different outcome.
- Look for the reported trouble areas and the years or configurations to which they apply.
- Do not treat problems fixed under warranty as evidence that they did not happen: Consumer Reports’ survey method includes warranty-covered problems.
- Use a broad brand position to decide what deserves closer checking, not to substitute for model-specific evidence.
When two results appear to conflict, first ask whether they concern the same country, model year, ownership stage, and outcome. In this case they do not: one is a 2024 U.S. initial-quality result for Ram, and the other is a 2026 Consumer Reports brand ranking for Chrysler. They can both be accurately reported without either settling which Stellantis make has the strongest long-term reliability.
Repair costs: ownership age changes the answer
Consumer Reports’ 2025 Annual Auto Surveys asked members how much they paid out of pocket for maintenance and repairs during the previous 12 months. Its analysis compares cumulative spending in three ownership periods: years one through five, years six through 10, and more than 10 years in total. Consumer Reports reports that costs rise as cars age, so a figure from one period should not be read as a lifetime forecast.
The analysis does not provide a complete set of comparable exact cost figures for every Stellantis make in the available material. That means there is no sound basis here for naming the cheapest Stellantis brand to repair, filling in missing make-by-make amounts, or extrapolating a full group ranking from Chrysler’s brand position. The Consumer Reports ranking of Chrysler 13th for maintenance and repair cost is a relative brand ranking, not a dollar estimate for every Chrysler or a direct price quote for a shopper.
Consumer Reports auto data analytics lead Steven Elek noted in the 2025 analysis that the difference in average maintenance cost between some brands can amount to thousands of dollars over a 10-year timeframe. That observation underscores why the period matters; it does not supply a specific Stellantis brand’s expected bill.
J.D. Power describes its Repair Analytics product as a warranty-benchmarking resource based on U.S. repair orders and service histories from 2018 to the present, with cost and repair frequency broken down by component. Its public product description explains the dataset, but does not publish a consumer-facing table of current repair costs for each Stellantis brand. Repair frequency and cost by component could help distinguish what fails from what a repair costs, but the public description is not enough to rank Stellantis makes by expected owner spending.
These measures answer different cost questions. A member’s out-of-pocket spending reflects what owners paid in the survey’s preceding 12 months and is organized by years of ownership. A warranty-benchmarking dataset built from repair orders and service histories is described in terms of repair cost and frequency by component. Neither description, by itself, supplies the complete model-by-model annual bill a shopper might incur.

What to compare for a real ownership-cost decision
- Compare the same ownership horizon for each vehicle. A five-year amount cannot be compared as if it were a 10-year total.
- Separate out-of-pocket maintenance and repair spending from warranty-covered repairs or total service costs; they answer different questions.
- Use model- and powertrain-specific figures when available. A broad make-level position may conceal variation among vehicles.
- Do not turn an unavailable amount into an estimate. If a source does not publish comparable costs, the responsible conclusion is that the comparison is not established.
For example, someone planning to sell after five years should look first for a five-year figure; a buyer intending to keep a vehicle beyond a decade needs a longer ownership window. The survey’s period groupings make clear why simply taking a brand’s relative position and applying it to every possible ownership length can mislead. Older vehicles may bring higher spending, so a favorable early-years comparison would not automatically settle the longer-term question.
Warranty coverage: country and vehicle details matter
What the Chrysler U.S. page says
Chrysler’s official U.S. warranty page says coverage specifics may vary. It describes three years or 36,000 miles as a common basic limited-warranty length and notes that some parts, including powertrains, may have longer coverage. This is general guidance from Chrysler’s U.S. page, not a verified, identical formula for every Stellantis brand, model, model year, or powertrain.
Do not assume that the basic term answers every warranty question. A vehicle may have separate coverage for different components, and applicable exclusions and conditions matter. The available evidence does not establish a current, complete U.S. comparison of basic, powertrain, electric-vehicle battery, or hybrid coverage, or of exclusions and transfer terms across all Stellantis makes. For a purchase decision, the exact model year’s official warranty booklet is the document to verify.
In particular, a common basic term should not be mistaken for a statement that every repair is covered for three years or 36,000 miles. The official page itself cautions that specifics vary and notes that some components can have longer terms. The booklet for the precise vehicle is needed to identify the component-specific coverage and its conditions; broad brand guidance is not a substitute for those details.
The French special-warranty program is a separate offer
Stellantis France announced a free special-warranty program for qualifying orders from June 1, 2025. For eligible vehicles, the extension can reach up to eight years or 160,000 km when scheduled maintenance is carried out at an authorized network workshop. The announcement covers specified makes and distinguishes standard from premium coverage.

The “up to” limit also does not mean every qualifying vehicle automatically receives the maximum duration and distance regardless of the program’s terms.
Stellantis France’s June 6, 2025 announcement headline says coverage “can be extended up to 8 years or 160,000 km.” The wording is important: it describes a potential extension subject to the program, not a universal promise. Buyers considering an eligible French-market vehicle should check which makes and coverage tier the offer names, whether their order qualifies, and how scheduled servicing at an authorized network workshop affects continuation of the benefit.

Warranty checks to complete for the vehicle you are considering
- Identify the country where the vehicle is being sold and the exact model year. Do not apply terms from another market or year.
- Get the official warranty booklet for that vehicle and powertrain, then check basic, powertrain, battery, and hybrid coverage separately where applicable.
- Read the mileage and time limits together. Confirm which limit ends coverage and when the coverage period begins.
- Check exclusions, required maintenance, authorized-service conditions, and any rules affecting transfer to a later owner.
- For a special or extended program, confirm that the vehicle, order date, service history, and coverage tier qualify before treating it as part of the purchase decision.
Keep a copy of the booklet and the applicable program terms with the vehicle’s purchase paperwork. The warranty is a set of written obligations and conditions, so the decisive details are the ones in the documents for that car—not a general summary for a brand or a special offer announced for another country.
How to compare Stellantis vehicles without mixing unlike evidence
A practical shortlist should be model-first, not brand-first. Choose the actual vehicles you would buy, then compare evidence that matches their generation, year, powertrain, and market. If one vehicle has a brand ranking and another has only an early-quality result, record those measures separately instead of combining them into a winner.

- Name the exact candidates. Record make, model, model year, engine or electrified system, trim, and generation. A change in generation or powertrain can make a broad brand comparison less relevant.
- Label every reliability result. Note the source, publication year, model years included, and whether it concerns initial quality, owner-reported reliability, or another measure.
- Compare repair costs on the same basis. Keep the ownership period and spending definition visible. If a source provides no comparable number for a candidate, leave the cost conclusion unresolved.
- Verify warranty documents individually. Use the official booklet for each candidate and confirm market, model year, limits, components, exclusions, and service conditions.
- Make the decision at the model level. Prefer the candidate with the strongest applicable evidence for your use case, not the make with the most favorable unrelated headline figure.
This method prevents three common errors: treating an early-quality study as long-term reliability, treating a brand ranking as a model prediction, and importing a warranty offer from another country. It also makes gaps visible instead of concealing them behind a single score.
A simple comparison sheet can include one row per exact vehicle and separate entries for the reliability source and year, reported trouble areas, repair-cost period and spending definition, and warranty booklet terms. Add a note whenever the evidence is brand-wide rather than model-specific. This makes it easier to see whether a candidate has evidence that truly matches your planned ownership, instead of allowing one striking statistic to dominate the decision.
If you cannot find like-for-like model data, the next-best step is not to guess a winner. Keep the uncertainty explicit, obtain the vehicle-specific warranty booklet, and compare additional model-level information for the candidates you are actually considering. A conclusion limited to what the sources measure is more useful than a confident brand ranking built from unrelated indicators.

Keep initial quality separate from owner-reported reliability, and compare repair spending over the same ownership period using the same spending definition. Verify each vehicle’s own warranty booklet rather than assuming brand-wide terms.
