StarVan’s Rebel and Cruiser Sprinter conversions use a rear slide-out bedroom that extends the parked van by a reported 1.2 metres (about 3.9 feet). The extension creates a raised 140 × 210 cm sleeping nook, leaving more of the van’s interior available for living space. The figures come from published coverage, not independent testing.
How the sleeping pod works
The pod is an extension at the rear of the van, rather than a rooftop bed or separate tent. New Atlas describes it as a patented structure made from XPS board that pulls out when the vehicle is parked. Its 2024 report says a manual version is available, with motorization offered as an option. Promobil’s 2025 coverage describes an electrically operated slide-out on the Rebel 4×4 specifically; that detail should not be assumed for every StarVan build.
When retracted for travel, the extension does not project behind the van. Pulled out at camp, it adds bedroom length at the back and raises the sleeping area above storage. That arrangement is intended to keep the main cabin less dominated by a permanent bed.
Reported sleeping and storage dimensions
New Atlas reports that the extension adds about 1.2 metres (3.9 feet) to the Sprinter and creates a 140 × 210 cm sleeping nook (about 55 × 82.6 inches). It also gives under-bed storage capacity as 932 litres, accessible from inside and outside. These are figures reported for the conversion described in the 2024 article, not independently verified measurements or a guarantee for every configuration.

A 140 × 210 cm mattress is a sensible size to investigate, but the coverage does not identify a supplied mattress or confirm that a particular mattress fits. Check the exact build’s usable dimensions, mattress arrangement and included equipment with StarVan before ordering bedding.

What buyers should verify
- Whether the extension on the specific build is manual or electric, and what controls or power requirements it uses.
- The actual bed and storage dimensions, plus how the extension is secured and used when parked.
- Current pricing, order lead times and sales or service availability in the buyer’s country. New Atlas said in August 2024 that it did not have pricing or international availability information; the later cited coverage does not settle those current details.
- Whether bedding is included, and the fit of any separately purchased mattress against the vehicle’s measured sleeping area.
