In a 2026 CarGurus marketplace snapshot, the average used Avalon listing was about $17,643, while average listings ranged from about $14,493 for a 2014 to $28,982 for a 2022. Those are asking-price benchmarks—not guaranteed sale prices or trade-in offers. Your car’s year, mileage, trim, condition, location, and sale method all matter.

It also showed a recent-model-year average of $17,613 and a 0.12% monthly increase, while overall used-car pricing declined 1.13%. These are changing marketplace snapshots, not an appraisal of an individual vehicle. CarGurus says its historical price data excludes additional dealer fees as of May 3, 2026.
Year-over-year listing trends also varied by model year: CarGurus reported declines of 6.62% for 2019 Avalons and 3.51% for 2022s, while 2016s were up 7.17% and 2015s up 6.45%. A market-wide trend does not predict what one car will sell for.

What the price estimates represent
Listing averages
CarGurus’ figures describe prices observed in its marketplace. A listing price is what a seller is asking, not proof of the amount a buyer paid. The eventual price can differ, and the displayed listing figure may not include additional dealer fees.
Dealer purchase estimates
Kelley Blue Book’s 2026 page snapshot gives national-average Fair Purchase Prices for a used 2022 Avalon in typical condition: $28,026 for an XLE, $31,622 for a Limited, and $33,247 for a Touring. These are dealer-purchase estimates, not universal values or offers. KBB says its figures vary with mileage, condition, location, and other factors and update weekly; treat the cited numbers as a page snapshot, not a verified live quote. Check KBB’s 2022 Avalon pricing page for a current estimate.

Trade-in and private-party estimates
Edmunds’ 2026 page snapshot illustrates how the transaction changes the number. For a 2022 Avalon with no options, roughly 12,000 miles driven per year, and “Clean” condition, it estimated about $24,057 trade-in and $26,274 private-party value. Its broader estimated range for 2022 models was $21,244–$36,350, depending on mileage, condition, and options. For a 2016 under the same stated assumptions, Edmunds estimated $10,653 trade-in and $14,555 private-party value. These are examples based on specific inputs, not predictions for every Avalon. See Edmunds’ Avalon appraisal estimates.
Why the same-year Avalon can be worth more or less
- Mileage: Annual use and current odometer reading affect a valuation. An estimate based on roughly 12,000 miles per year does not automatically apply to a much lower- or higher-mileage car.
- Condition: A “Clean” or typical-condition estimate assumes a particular condition category; damage, wear, or unusually good upkeep can change the result.
- Trim and options: The 2022 KBB figures differ among XLE, Limited, and Touring. Options also affect Edmunds’ estimates.
- Location: KBB explicitly identifies location as a factor; prices and demand may differ across markets.
- Transaction type: Trade-in, direct private sale, and dealer retail describe different transactions and should not be treated as interchangeable prices.

| Value type | What it means | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Trade-in | Expected amount from a dealer when you trade in the car | It answers what the dealer may offer for your car, not its retail asking price. |
| Private-party | Estimated value for a direct sale between individuals | Edmunds says this estimate is typically above trade-in; the owner handles finding and dealing with buyers. |
| Dealer-retail | What a shopper may pay at a dealership | It is a buyer-facing dealership price, not the amount an owner should expect as trade-in proceeds. |
These definitions and distinctions come from Edmunds’ appraisal explanation. Compare estimates only when they refer to the same transaction type.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to get a useful estimate for your Avalon
- Identify the exact car. Enter the model year, trim, and available options in a valuation tool. Edmunds’ appraisal process uses vehicle identity, options, condition, and mileage.
- Enter its actual mileage and condition. Choose the condition description that honestly fits the car; do not rely on a clean-condition example if it does not apply.
- Use your location. Where available, set the location to your market rather than treating a national average as local pricing.
- Select the transaction you mean. Get a trade-in estimate if you plan to trade, or a private-party estimate if you intend to sell directly. A dealer-retail figure answers a different question.
- Compare like with like. When checking listings, line up year, mileage, trim, options, condition, and location, and note whether dealer fees are included.
For a vehicle-specific starting point, use Edmunds’ appraisal tool or the KBB 2022 Avalon valuation page if that is your model year. A guide estimate is not a guaranteed offer; an actual buyer or dealer may value the car differently.
