How the FIA calculates the 2026 fee
The calculation is:
US$703,330 base fee + 2025 Constructors’ Championship points × the applicable per-point rate
The base fee
Every entrant, including a new team, starts with the same US$703,330 charge.
The per-point charge
- McLaren, the 2025 Constructors’ champion, is charged US$8,438 for each 2025 championship point.
- Every other returning team is charged US$7,030 for each 2025 championship point.
That is why the entry bill is not a flat price shared equally by all teams. Sporting results from the preceding season determine most of the variation.

Why Cadillac pays only the base amount
Cadillac was not a 2025 championship competitor, so it had no prior-season constructors’ points to multiply by a surcharge rate. Its published 2026 charge is therefore the US$703,330 base fee alone.
When teams apply and pay
The FIA’s 2026 Formula 1: General Regulatory Provisions, Issue 02 dated 27 February 2026, sets the entry timetable for each championship year.
- Submit the application: Applications for year N may be filed from 21 October through 1 November of year N−1.
- Undertake to pay: The application must include a commitment to pay the FIA entry fee by 15 December of year N−1.
- Meet the deadline: The FIA says an application without timely payment will not be accepted.
- Receive acceptance: A team cannot compete unless its entry application has been accepted.
For the 2026 championship, that meant applications were submitted between 21 October and 1 November 2025, with payment due no later than 15 December 2025. Article A3.1.2 states: "Applications by F1 Teams to compete in the Championship of Year N may be submitted to the FIA during the period 21 October to 1 November inclusive of Year N-1." The same article requires "an undertaking to pay the Entry Fee to the FIA by no later than 15 December of Year N-1."

What causes the gap between teams?
2025 constructors’ points
The number of points scored in 2025 is the biggest driver of the final charge. More points produce a larger surcharge under the published rate.
Championship position
Only the reigning constructors’ champion receives the higher US$8,438-per-point rate. McLaren’s title therefore raises its rate as well as reflecting its large points total.
New-entry status
An incoming team with no previous-season constructors’ score pays the base fee rather than a points-based addition. Cadillac is the 2026 example.

Does Audi pay Sauber’s 2026 fee?
The fee table lists Sauber with the note that it becomes Audi in 2026. The published amount is US$1,195,442 for that entry. The available regulations and fee table do not identify a separate Audi-branded charge or a different calculation; they show the 2026 entrant’s fee under the Sauber-to-Audi transition.
What this payment is—and is not
These figures are FIA championship-entry fees. They are not team operating budgets, the Formula 1 cost cap, engine-supply costs or driver super-licence fees. The cited material also does not publish an itemized allocation of entry-fee revenue or a separately disclosed commercial anti-dilution payment, so those amounts should not be added to this table.
