BMW UK says replacing a BMW electric-vehicle battery could cost £8,000 to £20,000. That is a broad UK estimate—not a quote for a specific model, and not a U.S. price. BMW USA does not publish a consumer-facing installed replacement price on the pages reviewed, so U.S. owners need a VIN-specific, itemized estimate.
What BMW’s published price does—and doesn’t—tell you
BMW UK gives an average range of £8,000–£20,000 for replacing a BMW EV battery on its battery-technology page. The page does not tie that range to a named model, dealer, battery configuration, or specified labor scope. Treat it as a broad UK guide, not a guaranteed quote.
BMW USA’s consumer pages discuss battery coverage and factors affecting battery costs, but do not publish a U.S. installed pack-replacement price. The UK figure should not be converted into a dollar estimate: parts, labor, taxes, and repair scope can differ, and the published range does not provide a model-specific basis for conversion. U.S. owners should request an estimate for their exact vehicle and VIN.
A warning or range loss doesn’t prove the whole pack needs replacing
A battery warning, reduced driving range, or a capacity concern is a reason to get a diagnosis—not proof that the complete high-voltage battery pack has failed. BMW’s certified-electric information says an authorized center can diagnose the battery and repair or replace necessary high-voltage components when coverage applies. The recommended repair might involve a cell module or another component rather than a complete pack.

Make sure a quote names the failed component and the proposed repair. A parts-catalog listing is not an installed replacement price: for example, a BMW of South Atlanta catalog page for a 2024 i4 lists a battery-pack-related item at $9,197.99 among high-voltage battery cells and covers. The listing does not establish that the item is a complete pack or include the cost of fitting it.
Check BMW warranty coverage before paying
New BMW BEVs in the United States
BMW of North America states that the high-voltage traction battery and its internal components are covered against defects in materials or workmanship for 96 months (8 years) or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. For 2026 model-year BMW BEVs, BMW also describes coverage for high-voltage cell modules if capacity falls below 70% state of health during that same time and mileage period. An authorized BMW center must confirm the condition and carry out an appropriate repair under BMW Group-approved standards and instructions. BMW notes that capacity naturally declines: “Due to its inherent technical design, the high-voltage lithium-ion battery’s capacity will decrease over time and with use.” A capacity threshold is not a promise that every range reduction qualifies for a new complete pack; the applicable terms and authorized diagnosis determine the repair.
Eligible BMW certified pre-owned EVs
BMW’s U.S. certified-electric program describes separate terms for eligible 2022–2025 certified EVs: battery-defect coverage for 8 years/100,000 miles and a capacity-loss provision below 75% state of health, subject to delivery-date and vehicle-eligibility conditions. BMW says an authorized center can diagnose, update software, and repair or replace necessary high-voltage components at no cost when the battery is covered. Check the CPO program information and CPO warranty terms for the vehicle in question; these provisions do not apply automatically to every BMW EV or market.

How to compare BMW battery-replacement estimates
Ask each repairer to quote the same scope. A headline parts price and an installed repair total are not comparable. Request an estimate that identifies:
- The country, currency, exact model, model year, and VIN.
- The diagnostic findings and specific failed component.
- Whether the repair is for a cell module or other component, or a complete battery assembly.
- Whether the part is new, remanufactured, or used, if that option is offered.
- Itemized parts, labor, diagnostics, programming, coolant or seals, taxes, and fees.
- Whether BMW warranty or certified-pre-owned coverage applies, and how the state-of-health result was measured against the relevant threshold.
- The warranty covering the replacement part and the labor.
BMW names an authorized center as the place to confirm coverage and perform repairs under its approved standards. If comparing an authorized-center quote with another estimate, confirm that both cover the same repair and components; the available BMW information does not establish a BMW-approved aftermarket pack option or its price.

What affects battery life?
BMW identifies ambient temperature, the number of charge cycles, and battery age as factors that influence battery life. It does not provide a reliable model-specific lifespan statistic here, so there is no well-supported single age or mileage at which every BMW EV battery should be expected to need replacement. These factors are not a diagnosis of an individual vehicle or a guarantee that a particular charging routine will prevent a repair. BMW’s battery-life FAQ discusses the factors it identifies.
