Plan on several hundred dollars for a routine Harley-Davidson dealer service in 2025, not a single universal annual bill. Published menus illustrate the range: New Castle Harley-Davidson lists Big Twin 1,000-, 5,000-, 10,000- and 15,000-mile services at $420, its 20,000-mile service at $495 and its 25,000-mile service at $750. The same dealer lists Sportster services from $355 to $515. CrossRoads Harley-Davidson lists standard services totaling $386.45 to $467.57, depending on model and oil choice, plus a $155 brake-fluid flush. These are local menu prices, not a national average, and wear items are often extra.

The following published dealer menus show what scheduled work can cost before additional parts or repairs. New Castle Harley-Davidson’s figures are its 2025 menu prices; CrossRoads’ menu is identified as current, but its price date and location are not stated.

When Harley-Davidson maintenance is scheduled
1,000-mile break-in service
Harley-Davidson’s 2025 interval tables begin at 1,000 miles (1,600 km). Manufacturer guidance says: “We recommend changing your oil and filter at the first 1,000-mile service interval, and then at every 5,000-mile interval after that.”

Recurring 5,000-mile intervals
After the first visit, the tables continue at 5,000-mile increments through 50,000 miles, then repeat from the 5,000-mile interval. The exact checklist is model specific and can include inspection or adjustment of electrical controls, tires, brakes, drive belt, fluids, cables, fasteners and other components.
Annual and severe-use work
Some owner-manual instructions are time based or condition based rather than purely mileage based. Harley-Davidson says maintenance must be performed at the specified intervals and more often in severe conditions. Touring and trike use, dusty roads, short trips, heavy stop-and-go traffic and severe weather can therefore increase frequency even when annual mileage is low.

What dealer package prices include—and what they do not
New Castle says its listed package prices include engine, primary and transmission fluid changes using Syn3. The dealer expressly excludes incidentals such as air-filter replacement, brake pads and other wear items. Harley-Davidson service categories also treat tire replacement, brake-system flushes and brake-pad replacement as separate work.
Recommended Free Tools
- Usually included in the cited New Castle package: scheduled service operations and the three listed fluid changes with Syn3.
- Commonly extra: tires, brake pads, brake-fluid flushes, air filters, batteries, belts, leak repairs and other parts found due during inspection.
- Why totals jump: a routine inspection can identify several consumables at once, turning a menu service into a larger repair estimate.
How to budget for your own Harley
- Identify the model family and mileage interval. Match your motorcycle to the owner manual and the 1,000- or 5,000-mile schedule; Sportster and Big Twin menus are not interchangeable, and Touring or trike requirements can differ.
- Use a local menu as the labor baseline. For example, a Big Twin at the cited New Castle dealer would start at $420 for a 1K/5K/10K/15K visit, not at a nationwide “average.”
- Add only parts that inspection shows are due. Budget separately for tires, pads, filters, batteries, belts and leaks rather than assuming they are in the package.
- Include time-based work. A low-mileage motorcycle may still need annual inspections or fluid-related operations specified by its manual.
- Multiply by the visits your riding reaches. A rider covering 10,000 miles in a year reaches more scheduled checkpoints than a rider who covers only a few thousand, and may also consume tires and brake pads faster.
Dealer service versus doing the work yourself
What DIY can reduce
Performing an oil and filter service yourself can remove dealer labor from that operation. The recurring oil cadence is clear, but the published material does not establish a national dealer-labor price or a reliable DIY total.

What DIY requires
- The exact owner manual and service interval table for your year and model.
- Correct oil specification, filter, capacities and model-fit parts; verify fitment before purchase.
- Suitable tools, fluid-handling equipment and the ability to inspect brakes, tires, belt, controls and fasteners safely.
- Receipts and maintenance records, especially if warranty or resale documentation matters.
Harley-Davidson’s service guidance emphasizes authorized technicians, genuine parts and proprietary tools for dealer work. DIY is a cost option only when the owner can complete the required operations correctly; an incorrectly serviced brake, belt or control system can cost more than the labor saved.
What makes one Harley more expensive to maintain?
Motorcycle family
Sportster and Big Twin menu prices already differ in the published examples. Touring and trike models can have different inspection lists, fluid quantities and labor time, so their cost must be confirmed against the exact manual and local dealer menu rather than inferred from a Sportster price.

Mileage and wear
Higher-mileage services generally involve more scheduled checks, and the cited Big Twin menu rises from $420 at several early intervals to $495 at 20,000 miles and $750 at 25,000 miles. Tires, pads, batteries and belts follow condition, not simply the service-menu label.

Best Value
- Comprehensive coverage of maintenance and repair tasks for a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
- Includes clear instructions, diagrams, and illustrations to simplify complex procedures.
- A trusted reference guide designed to support both DIY owners and professional technicians.
Ways to keep the bill under control
- Follow the interval table instead of postponing service until symptoms appear.
- Ask the service adviser to separate scheduled operations from recommended-but-not-urgent wear items.
- Check tire, brake-pad, belt and battery condition between visits so replacements are planned rather than discovered on a trip.
- Compare local authorized-dealer menus, asking which oil and fluids are included and which are billed separately.
- For DIY oil work, use the exact manual specification and retain receipts and service dates.
Bottom line for 2025 owners
Routine Harley-Davidson dealer maintenance commonly lands in the mid-hundreds of dollars: the cited menus run from $355 to $750 for scheduled services, with a separate $155 brake-fluid flush example. Your annual cost depends on model, miles ridden, local labor, oil choice, riding severity and wear items discovered during inspection. Treat the published figures as starting points, then budget the exact interval and condition-based work required by your motorcycle’s owner manual.
