How Ferrari Daytona SP3 Auction Prices Compare With Private-Sale Values

Auction records for the Ferrari Daytona SP3 vary sharply because the cars and transactions differ. Here is what each result proves—and why a reliable private-sale value cannot yet be calculated.

There is no verified public private-sale benchmark for the Ferrari Daytona SP3. Documented auction records show widely different outcomes, but they involve different cars, specifications, dates, currencies and transaction purposes. A completed auction price can be quoted precisely; a dealer asking price, estimate or charity result cannot be treated as the normal private-market value of a customer car.

What the public evidence actually establishes

The most defensible comparison is between identifiable auction transactions and the absence of a verified private closing-price sample. Public records establish several Daytona SP3 price points, but they do not establish a median private-sale value, an annual private transaction average or a reliable auction premium.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

That distinction matters because the Daytona SP3 market contains unusually scarce and highly individualized cars. A Tailor Made specification, very low mileage, factory development history, country of registration and the way a transaction is reported can each move the apparent price. Comparing headline numbers without separating those variables produces a misleading range.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The evidence comes from different kinds of records. RM Sotheby’s catalogues and results provide auction-house descriptions and figures for the Zurich and London cars; Ferrari’s official announcement reports the 2025 charity sale; and a secondary auction-results roundup reports the 2026 Monterey result. These are not all equivalent forms of documentation. In particular, the Monterey 2026 figure should be checked against RM Sotheby’s realized-price record before it is treated as definitive.

Documented Daytona SP3 auction figures

Car and event Published figure What the figure represents Important qualification
2024 Daytona SP3, RM Sotheby’s Zurich, October 2025 CHF 5,348,750 Completed auction result Swiss-market, single-ownership Tailor Made example with 2,933 kilometres and bespoke Rosso Deborah paint; currency and location are specific to the sale.
Tailor Made Daytona SP3, RM Sotheby’s Monterey, August 2025 US$26,000,000 Completed charity-auction result reported by Ferrari Chassis 599+1, an additional one-off beyond the regular allocation; proceeds benefited The Ferrari Foundation. It is not a routine production-car comparable.
2023 Daytona SP3, RM Sotheby’s Monterey, August 2026 US$17,825,000 including premium Reported completed auction result Reported in a secondary auction-results roundup; confirm the amount against the auction house’s realized-price record before treating it as definitive.
2022 Daytona SP3 development car, RM Sotheby’s London, 2026 £7,500,000–£9,500,000 Pre-sale estimate Also displayed as US$10–13 million and €8.5–11 million; Ferrari retained the car for press use, making its history unusual. No achieved price is established by this estimate.

These figures are individual records, not a statistical market average. They should be read as evidence of what particular cars attracted in particular circumstances, not as a price guide for every Daytona SP3.

Read the Zurich result as one completed transaction for a particular Swiss-market car—not as proof that all customer cars sell near CHF 5.35 million. The 2026 Monterey result is a different reported transaction, for a 2023 car, in a different market and year. Its US$17.825 million figure includes premium, but the secondary reporting status calls for confirmation at the auction-house record. The two figures are far apart; the available descriptions do not provide enough matched detail to explain the difference or turn it into a general price movement.

The 2025 charity event belongs in a separate category. Ferrari reported that the one-off Tailor Made chassis 599+1 achieved US$26 million, with proceeds benefiting The Ferrari Foundation. Ferrari’s announcement described the purpose this way: “All proceeds from the record-breaking sale will benefit The Ferrari Foundation, a 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to advancing educational programmes and community projects worldwide.” That charitable purpose and the car’s additional one-off status are central to understanding the result, not incidental details.

Why the numbers are not interchangeable

A standard customer car is different from chassis 599+1

The US$26 million Monterey transaction concerned chassis 599+1, a one-off Tailor Made car created beyond the regular allocation. Ferrari stated that all proceeds would benefit The Ferrari Foundation, a 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to advancing educational programmes and community projects worldwide. A philanthropic buyer may value the charitable purpose, exclusivity and publicity in a way that does not apply to a conventional resale. Treating that result as the ordinary value of a production Daytona SP3 would overstate the evidence.

It is best to keep this result visible as an exceptional transaction while excluding it from any informal “typical car” comparison. The headline amount combines the value of an unusual automobile with a one-time charitable event. There is no evidence here that another buyer would pay the same amount for a regular allocation, even one with bespoke work.

Development and press history changes the buyer pool

The London lot was a 2022 development car retained by Ferrari for press use. Its estimate is useful for showing how an auction house framed the opportunity, but an estimate is not money paid by a successful bidder. Development status, factory custody and media history can be desirable to collectors seeking provenance, while other buyers may prefer an untouched customer car. The estimate therefore cannot be inserted into a table of completed sales as if it were a closing price.

The estimate was published as £7.5–9.5 million, with equivalent ranges displayed as US$10–13 million and €8.5–11 million. Those are currency presentations of the same pre-sale estimate, not three separate realized prices. Unless a later result is independently documented, the right conclusion is that the car was offered with that estimate—not that it sold within the range.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Tailor Made work and mileage affect comparability

The Zurich car was a Swiss-market, single-ownership Tailor Made example with 2,933 kilometres and bespoke Rosso Deborah paint. Those details are not decoration around the price: they describe the asset that bidders evaluated. A car with different materials, colors, options, mileage, registration history or ownership documentation may attract a different result even at the same auction.

Specification alone does not guarantee a particular premium. Bespoke finishes may appeal strongly to one buyer and less to another, and uniqueness is most persuasive when the work is documented. A useful comparison therefore records the actual Tailor Made elements and provenance rather than relying on a broad label such as “special specification.”

Currency and sale date matter

CHF, US dollars and pounds sterling are not directly comparable without choosing an exchange-rate date and a conversion method. Converting each result into a single currency can create false precision because exchange rates move between the sales. The Zurich sale occurred in October 2025, while the Monterey records are from August 2025 and August 2026; supply, collector sentiment and tax conditions may differ as well.

If conversion is necessary, state the rate date and whether the conversion is intended to show the original sale’s contemporary equivalent or a present-day equivalent. Do not silently use a current rate to imply that bidders faced the same economic conditions at each sale. Local tax, VAT, import and registration treatment can also mean that two headline figures do not represent the same buyer cost or seller proceeds.

What “auction price” means in each record

Completed result

A completed result is the amount reported after a buyer wins the lot. You still need to know whether the number includes the buyer’s premium, taxes or other charges. The reported Monterey 2026 figure is described as including premium. The Zurich figure is a recorded result in Swiss francs, but a cross-market comparison should verify the auction house’s treatment of premium, taxes and fees before calculating differences.

For a fair comparison with a private deal, ask which amount matters: the winning bid, the buyer’s total cost, or the seller’s net proceeds. These may differ because premiums, commissions and tax treatment can sit outside or inside the quoted figure. A headline auction result without that accounting is not automatically equivalent to a private buyer’s agreed price.

Pre-sale estimate

An estimate is the auction house’s expected range before bidding. It can be revised, exceeded, or left unmet. The London development car’s £7.5–9.5 million range is therefore an expectation, not evidence that a buyer paid within that band.

Asking price

A dealer or owner may advertise a Daytona SP3 at a particular figure without completing a transaction. Asking price reflects a seller’s position, not the amount a buyer actually remits. It may also exclude taxes, transport, inspection, financing costs or negotiated concessions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

An asking price can still be useful as a description of a seller’s current position if the listing is live and the car is available. It is not a sale comparable until the transaction closes and its terms can be documented. A listing removed from a site, for example, does not by itself prove that the car sold at the advertised figure.

Private closing price

A private-sale closing price is the agreed consideration in a completed transaction between private parties or through a broker, supported by enough documentation to identify the car and the terms. The publicly available material for this topic does not provide such a verified sample. Without that evidence, it is not responsible to state that private sales occur at a particular discount or premium to auction.

That limitation is specific: it does not mean private sales do not happen, or that a private price cannot be known to the parties involved. It means there is no verified public set of private closings here from which to calculate a representative value, median or channel premium. Confidentiality, incomplete terms and differences between net proceeds and buyer outlay can make private figures especially hard to compare.

What can—and cannot—be inferred from the spread

The gap between the Zurich result and the reported Monterey 2026 result demonstrates dispersion among documented sales, but it does not reveal a trend line. The cars were from different model years and locations, and the published descriptions do not establish identical specifications, condition or tax treatment. A single high or low result cannot be used to calculate depreciation, appreciation or a typical transaction price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The charity result demonstrates the ceiling that a unique purpose-built event can produce, not the clearing price for a normal allocation. Likewise, the development-car estimate demonstrates how a specialist auction house positioned an unusual factory-history car before sale, not what the broader market would pay for a customer example.

There is also no verified private-sale median against which to measure an “auction premium.” Calculating one would require matched private and auction transactions—ideally the same specification, mileage band, geography, timing and fee basis. The available records do not provide that matched dataset.

Even an accurate comparison of two completed auctions would remain a comparison of those two cars. To establish a market pattern, an analyst would need enough transactions over time and consistent information about identity, condition, specification, taxes and fees. A handful of headline records cannot establish an annual average or explain what an individual seller should expect to receive.

A rigorous auction-versus-private comparison framework

Owners, buyers and journalists can avoid false comparisons by recording the same fields for every candidate transaction.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Identify the vehicle. Record model year, chassis identity and whether the car is a regular production customer car, chassis 599+1 or a development/press vehicle.
  2. Document condition and use. Capture odometer reading, servicing, accident history, storage, registration status and ownership sequence. A low-mileage, single-owner car should not be blended with a heavily used example.
  3. Describe the specification. List Tailor Made work, paint, interior materials, factory options and any documented one-off elements. “Daytona SP3” alone is not a sufficiently precise description.
  4. Separate transaction bases. Label each number as a completed result, estimate, asking price or private closing. State whether a completed amount includes buyer’s premium, taxes and fees.
  5. Fix the time and geography. Record sale date, country, currency, VAT or sales-tax treatment, import status and local supply. Use an explicit exchange-rate date if conversion is necessary.
  6. Verify the source. Prefer the auction house’s lot and realized-price record or a documented transaction statement. Treat secondary reporting as provisional until the primary record confirms it.

For private deals, also record whether the quoted figure is gross consideration, net to the seller or the buyer’s all-in cost; whether the offer was conditional; and whether a sale agreement and transfer were completed. Keep offers, broker indications and signed closings in separate categories. An unaccepted offer is evidence of interest, not a transaction.

Only after those fields match should a buyer attempt a like-for-like comparison. Even then, a small number of transactions supports a range of observed outcomes, not a statistically reliable market index.

How buyers should read a private-sale advertisement

Ask whether the car is actually available

A listing can remain online after a car is reserved or sold. Request the listing date, current availability and the seller’s authority to offer the vehicle. A screenshot of an advertised figure is not proof of a completed sale.

Request the full cost basis

Ask whether the quoted amount includes or excludes sales tax, VAT, import duty, registration, transport, brokerage and inspection. Compare the all-in delivered cost with an auction result only after placing both on the same basis.

Match the specification and history

Obtain the chassis number through appropriate documentation, service records, mileage evidence, option and Tailor Made invoices, ownership history and any factory correspondence. A bespoke specification can be valuable, neutral or difficult to resell depending on the next buyer’s preferences.

Use independent verification

For a transaction at this level, an independent inspection, title check and confirmation of funds and escrow arrangements are prudent. Factory or specialist records should be checked directly rather than accepted solely as marketing language. None of those checks turns an asking price into a market statistic, but they reduce the risk of comparing unlike assets.

For a buyer trying to assess a seller’s claimed comparable, ask for enough information to test whether it is genuinely comparable: the model year and specification, approximate mileage, date and country, transaction status, and whether the figure included premium or taxes. Personal details can be redacted, but a bare number without any terms cannot reliably support a valuation claim.

How sellers should present an SP3 for a meaningful comparison

A seller seeking a private offer should prepare a specification sheet that mirrors the fields used in auction catalogues: model year, mileage, market of delivery, ownership count, service history, accident or paint history, Tailor Made details, materials, photographs and documentation. State whether the proposed figure is net to the seller or includes brokerage, taxes and other costs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is also useful to distinguish a confidential indication of interest from a signed sale agreement. A broker’s verbal range, an offer subject to inspection and a completed transfer are three different levels of evidence. Recording them separately helps prevent an unaccepted number from being repeated later as a private-sale value.

A seller can make an offer easier to evaluate by presenting dates and evidence rather than only superlatives: for example, the car’s documented mileage, ownership sequence, market of delivery and invoices supporting Tailor Made work. This does not guarantee a higher price, but it lets a buyer compare the actual car with an auction catalogue description rather than with a headline detached from its details.

Common valuation mistakes

  • Using the US$26 million charity result as a normal benchmark. Its 599+1 identity and philanthropic purpose make it exceptional.
  • Calling the London estimate a sale. The £7.5–9.5 million range was a pre-sale estimate for a development car.
  • Mixing premium-inclusive and premium-exclusive figures. The basis must be stated before arithmetic is attempted.
  • Converting currencies without a date. A conversion using today’s rate can obscure the economic conditions at the original sale.
  • Equating an advertisement with a closing. The seller’s ask may never have been accepted.
  • Ignoring bespoke specification. Tailor Made paint, materials and documented uniqueness can materially change the buyer pool.
  • Extrapolating from one or two cars. Sparse observations cannot produce a dependable median or annual trend.
  • Assuming auction and private buyers pay the same costs. Premiums, taxes, transport, registration and broker fees differ by channel and jurisdiction.
  • Treating a secondary report as a primary auction record. Confirm the reported 2026 Monterey result against RM Sotheby’s realized-price record before relying on it as definitive.
  • Confusing the seller’s proceeds with the buyer’s cost. Fees, tax and transaction expenses can make those amounts different even when they relate to the same sale.

A practical decision rule for buyers

If you are evaluating a Daytona SP3, use the documented auction figures as reference points for specific cars, not as an automatic bid ceiling. First classify the vehicle. Then compare its mileage, provenance and specification with the closest documented example. Adjust for transaction costs and geography only with clearly stated assumptions. Finally, ask for evidence of any claimed private-sale comparable; if the seller cannot provide a completed transaction with identifiable terms, treat the number as an opinion or asking price.

For sellers, the same rule works in reverse: an auction headline may attract attention, but a private buyer will usually price the exact car, documentation and all-in transaction cost rather than a famous outlier. Presenting the car transparently gives a prospective buyer a basis for a serious offer without implying that an exceptional charity result is repeatable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For anyone publishing or sharing a value claim, preserve the transaction label alongside the number: “completed auction result,” “pre-sale estimate,” “advertised asking price” or “verified private closing.” Include the date, currency and premium basis where known. Those few qualifiers prevent the most common error in this comparison—making unlike figures look like direct evidence of the same thing.

Current bottom line on private-sale value

Public evidence supports quoting the Zurich completed result, the reported Monterey 2026 result, the Monterey charity result and the London estimate in their original currencies and contexts. It does not support publishing an exact private-sale range or calculating an auction-versus-private premium. Until verified private closing records with comparable specifications and terms become available, the honest conclusion is that Daytona SP3 private-market value remains transaction-specific and not publicly benchmarked.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the verified private-sale value of a Ferrari Daytona SP3?

No verified public sample of private closing prices establishes a reliable value range, median or average. An asking price, broker indication or unaccepted offer is not a completed private sale.

Does the US$26 million Daytona SP3 result represent a normal production car?

No. Ferrari reported that chassis 599+1, a one-off Tailor Made car beyond the regular allocation, sold for US$26 million in a 2025 Monterey charity auction. Proceeds benefited The Ferrari Foundation, so it is an exceptional philanthropic transaction, not a routine customer-car comparable.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What does the £7.5–9.5 million London figure mean?

It was RM Sotheby’s 2026 pre-sale estimate for a 2022 development car retained by Ferrari for press use. It is an estimate, not an achieved sale price.

Can the Zurich and Monterey auction results be compared directly?

Not without qualifications. They concern different cars, years, locations, currencies and sale dates, and the 2026 Monterey figure is reported in a secondary roundup and should be confirmed against RM Sotheby’s realized-price record. Compare premium, tax and fee treatment as well.

How do I compare a private offer with an auction result?

Match the car’s identity, condition, mileage, provenance and specification; confirm that both figures refer to completed transactions; then align currency, date, buyer’s premium, taxes and other costs. Without those details, the figures are not like-for-like.

The Bottom Line

Published auction results document specific Daytona SP3 transactions, not a dependable private-sale benchmark. The US$26 million charity sale and the London development-car estimate are especially poor proxies for a regular customer car. No verified private closing-price sample supports an exact range or auction premium.
