The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is EPA-estimated to travel 262 miles on a full charge, but that figure is not a published result from driving at a steady 60 mph. A separate test recorded 230 miles at 75 mph; the exact distance from the reported 60 mph drive cannot be verified from the available published details. So the headline’s implication that the Bolt can travel farther at 60 mph may be plausible, but there is no substantiated 60 mph mileage figure to quote.
What is the 2027 Bolt’s official range?
General Motors’ final 2027 specifications list an EPA-estimated range of 262 miles on a full charge. That is a standardized estimate, not a constant-speed highway result. GM says actual range varies with ambient temperature, terrain, battery age and condition, vehicle loading, and how the vehicle is used and maintained. See GM’s 2027 Bolt specifications.

The distinction matters: an EPA estimate and a road test answer different questions. The EPA figure gives a standardized basis for estimating range; a fixed-speed drive measures a particular vehicle under particular conditions. Neither should be presented as the other.

Is there a verified 60 mph test result?
A surfaced report describes driving a Bolt from full charge to empty at a steady 60 mph on the New Jersey Turnpike, but the accessible report information does not provide a verifiable distance or enough test details to assess the result. Without a checkable result and methodology, the exact 60 mph range remains unknown. It would be misleading to infer a number from the EPA estimate or from a test conducted at a different speed.

What does the 75 mph test show?
Car and Driver’s instrumented test of a 2027 Bolt RS recorded 230 miles at 75 mph. This is useful as a separate highway reference, but it is not a 60 mph result and should not be labeled as one. The published figure is specific to that test and vehicle; it does not establish what every Bolt will achieve at either speed. Read Car and Driver’s 2027 Chevrolet Bolt coverage.
Why can a slower drive produce a different range?
Driving speed is only one influence on energy use. GM identifies ambient temperature, terrain, battery age and condition, loading, and use and maintenance as factors affecting actual range. A meaningful comparison between two road tests also depends on details such as trim and tires, HVAC use, weather, route, and the charge level at the start and finish. When those conditions are not reported, a mileage figure should not be treated as a controlled, repeatable promise.

What battery and charging equipment does the Bolt use?
The 2027 Bolt has a 65 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. GM lists charging capability of up to 11.5 kW on AC and 150 kW on DC, with a stated 25-minute public DC fast-charge time from 10% to 80%. GM cautions that actual charging times vary with battery state and condition, charger output, settings, and temperature. These specifications describe charging, not added driving range.

The vehicle comes with a standard native NACS port. Chevrolet says the Bolt can use compatible Tesla Superchargers that support NACS. For the specified 11.5 kW home AC charging setup, GM says a dedicated 60A home charging station, sold separately, must be professionally installed. Check the Chevrolet Bolt FAQ and the vehicle’s charging requirements before choosing equipment.

What should a buyer take from the range figures?
- Use 262 miles as the official EPA-estimated full-charge range, not as a guaranteed highway distance.
- Treat 230 miles as the reported result of Car and Driver’s distinct 75 mph test of a 2027 Bolt RS.
- Do not quote a specific 60 mph result unless the underlying test’s measured distance and conditions can be checked.
- Allow for conditions that affect real-world range, including temperature, terrain, battery condition, load, and vehicle use.
