Horse Powertrain began producing its compact eMotor in Aveiro, Portugal, in January 2025. The company lists maximum output of 49 kW (about 66 hp) and 212 Nm (about 156 lb-ft) for both full-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid applications. Those are motor figures, not the combined output of a vehicle powertrain.
What is Horse’s eMotor?
It is an electric motor designed to work alongside an internal-combustion engine in a hybrid powertrain. New Atlas reports that Horse places it between the engine and transmission. In that position, it can provide electric drive, assist the engine during hybrid operation and recover energy as the vehicle decelerates.
Horse’s 2025 annual report confirms production began at its Aveiro site in January 2025. Its 2024 annual report also records the commencement of eMotor production in Portugal, corroborating the production milestone. Horse Annual Report 2025; Horse Annual Report 2024.

The 49 kW and 212 Nm values describe the eMotor itself. They should not be read as a hybrid vehicle’s total system power or torque. New Atlas reports the 130 km/h electric-drive figure as a Horse claim; the annual-report excerpt does not establish it as an independently tested vehicle speed. New Atlas’s January 16, 2025 report.

Which engines and cars will use it?
New Atlas reports that Horse developed the motor for its HR12, HR16 and HR18 engines. That identifies engine families, not confirmed retail models: the available reports do not name a production vehicle or customer application using the eMotor.
The same New Atlas article describes the HR12 as a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine with a base rating of 129 hp and 230 Nm. Those engine figures are not the eMotor’s output and do not establish the combined output of a vehicle using the two components.

What production capacity has Horse planned?
New Atlas reports that Horse planned to produce up to 160,000 eMotors annually across four new assembly lines at Aveiro. This is a reported capacity figure, not confirmation of actual annual production or the number of motors already built.

Starting production means the component has moved beyond an announcement, but it does not by itself identify when or where a car using it will be sold. The available reporting establishes the motor’s stated role, output and compatible HR engine families; it does not establish a named vehicle, measured fuel-economy or emissions improvement, or a consumer purchase option.

Vehicle-level results would depend on the complete hybrid system, including its engine pairing, battery, electric-drive capability and calibration. Without a named vehicle and comparable test data, the eMotor’s specifications alone cannot show how much fuel a car would save or how it would perform.
