Honda has confirmed it is developing a new V-6 engine for a next-generation hybrid system aimed at large vehicles in North America. The company’s May 2026 briefing puts the planned launch of large-size hybrids in 2029, but Honda has not named the models that will use the V-6 or published production specifications.
Is Honda making a V-6 hybrid?
Yes. At an automotive technology workshop on October 29, 2025, Honda announced development of a next-generation large-size hybrid system for North American vehicles in the D-segment and above. Honda says the system will combine a newly developed V-6 engine with new drive units, a battery pack and next-generation energy-management control. Honda’s November 6, 2025 announcement describes the program and its intended capabilities.
Honda says the system is intended to deliver powerful driving, high towing capability and environmental performance. Those are stated aims, not published production-vehicle results.
When is Honda’s V-6 hybrid expected?
Honda’s May 14, 2026 business briefing says the company plans to launch large-size hybrid models in North America in 2029. The timing applies to the planned D-segment-and-above hybrids; the briefing does not say which models will use the V-6 system. Honda’s 2026 business briefing also says it plans 15 next-generation hybrid models globally by the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2030. It does not say all 15 will have this V-6.
