What Honda changed in its second ADUO update
Honda Racing Corporation president Koji Watanabe said the first 2026 ADUO specification was introduced in the Netherlands and had drivability problems. Honda then fitted a power unit with an improved turbocharger to Stroll’s car at the Spanish Grand Prix. Watanabe described the change as a response to those issues, rather than a broad power-unit overhaul. Autosport reported Honda’s account on 1 October 2026.

Turbo lag is a delay in boost response: after a driver reapplies throttle, the turbo takes time to build pressure. That delay can leave a torque gap, which the electric motor may need to cover. Improving response can therefore help drivability and leave energy available for other deployment, but it is not the same as a substantial increase in peak combustion-engine power.

Reports characterized the improvement as modest. The update targeted response and energy management; it did not erase Honda’s broader engine-performance problem. Autosport reported that Honda’s internal-combustion-engine performance deficit was more than 4% against the Red Bull Ford Powertrains benchmark, the stated basis for Honda receiving two ADUO opportunities in 2026. That percentage is the reported basis for the allocation, not a measure of the turbo update’s gain.
What Stroll said about the result
Stroll’s public assessment was that he felt little difference. “Not much. You know, we’re really struggling on the engine side. We know that, so a lot of work to be done,” he said, according to Crash.net’s report, updated 1 October 2026.

He also estimated the engine deficit at two seconds, saying the consequences were especially difficult at tracks such as Baku and Monza. That is Stroll’s estimate, not independently measured telemetry reported by the source. His comments underline the distinction between improving turbo response and solving the larger performance shortfall.
Why Honda says there will be no more 2026 ADUO hardware updates
Watanabe said Honda had used its two ADUO opportunities for the season. He said the remaining work would involve changes that do not involve hardware, alongside development for the future. That is Honda’s account of its remaining plans; detailed regulatory mechanics are not necessary to establish what the team said it would do next.

What is actually known about Ocon and Aston Martin
Esteban Ocon confirmed he will leave Haas at the end of the 2026 season. Formula1.com’s analysis discussed Aston Martin as a possible destination in the conditional scenario where Fernando Alonso did not stay; Alonso’s retention closed off that scenario. This does not amount to a confirmed Ocon-Aston Martin signing, and the cited reporting does not document an official Aston Martin response to a signing rumour.
