That makes the concept more practical than a hydrogen car that depends on fuel stations for every mile—but Honda currently offers it only in California, and access depends on being near an approved hydrogen station.
What makes the CR-V e:FCEV different?
Honda calls the CR-V e:FCEV America’s first production plug-in hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle. It has an electric motor driving the front wheels, a battery that can be charged from an external plug, and a hydrogen fuel-cell system that generates electricity onboard. It is not a conventional plug-in hybrid: hydrogen and the fuel cell are central to its powertrain, not a secondary feature alongside a gasoline engine. Honda’s model page describes the plug-in and fuel-cell combination.
The plug-in battery changes the ownership equation. If your regular trips fit within the battery’s rated electric range and you can charge at home or work, you can make those trips without using hydrogen. For longer drives, the fuel-cell system supplies electricity from hydrogen. That reduces how often short-trip drivers need a hydrogen station, but it does not eliminate the need to refuel hydrogen for journeys beyond the battery’s usable charge.
What are the CR-V e:FCEV’s range and specifications?
For the 2026 model, Honda lists up to 29 miles of battery-electric range and 270 miles of total driving range. These are published ratings, not guaranteed real-world results; driving conditions and use can affect what a driver achieves. Honda’s specifications also list 61 MPGe city, 52 MPGe highway and 57 MPGe combined. Honda’s 2026 specifications provide the following figures:

MPGe is a standardized efficiency measure, not a statement of hydrogen’s price at a local station or of what an owner will spend per mile. The rated range also cannot tell you whether a particular route is practical: that depends on where you can refuel and whether you can charge before setting out.
Can you charge it at home?
Yes. Honda says the CR-V e:FCEV supports plug-in charging and that Level 2 charging can replenish up to 29 miles of battery range in about two-and-a-half hours. That gives owners a way to cover many local trips with electricity from a home or workplace charger. Honda’s charging information does not establish the connector standard or confirm compatibility with particular third-party chargers, so check the current owner documentation and charging requirements before buying equipment.

Where can you lease one?
Honda says the CR-V e:FCEV is available only in California through participating dealerships. Eligibility is tied to proximity to an approved hydrogen fueling station in Northern or Southern California; Honda advises prospective lessees to check whether their home or work ZIP code is near a participating dealer and station. Honda’s availability information is the place to start, but confirm dealer eligibility and inventory directly before making plans.
A station’s presence on a map is not enough to establish that it is reliably available for your routine. Check current station status and operating details, then consider whether you have a workable alternative if a station is unavailable. The available official information does not establish a current station count or a reliability rate.

What does it cost, and what does Honda’s fuel-card offer mean?
Honda’s 2026 pricing information lists a $50,000 MSRP and $51,450 including destination. Treat those as manufacturer-published figures, not a quote for a specific dealer or lease; verify current pricing and availability with a participating dealership. Honda’s 2026 pricing and EPA release also lists the model’s efficiency ratings.
Honda’s 2025 model information advertised a fuel card worth up to $15,000 over a three-year lease. That is an offer claim tied to the 2025 information, not cash and not proof that the same offer applies to a current lease. The page does not establish the full terms or actual hydrogen prices. Read the current lease paperwork to confirm eligibility, card value, restrictions and timing. Honda’s model and offer page is subject to change.

Honda also says the vehicle may need less routine maintenance, citing longer brake rotor and pad life, no oil changes and reduced spark-plug replacement. Those are Honda’s maintenance claims; they do not, by themselves, establish lower total ownership costs than a hybrid or battery EV.

There is no universal winner in the available figures: a fair comparison depends on local access and the actual lease terms. The e:FCEV is most plausible for someone who can charge conveniently, has dependable hydrogen refueling nearby and can obtain an acceptable lease. If any of those conditions is missing, the plug-in battery does not make the hydrogen constraint disappear.

- Hydrogen access: Can you reach an approved station reliably, and do its operating hours and status fit your routine?
- Charging: Can you charge at home or work often enough to use the battery for ordinary short trips?
- Lease economics: What is the actual payment after applicable incentives, and does the written fuel-card offer apply to your contract?
- Trip patterns: Do your regular routes fit the battery range, and can you plan longer drives around available hydrogen stations?
- Efficiency expectations: How do the rated range and MPGe compare with your expected use? Ratings do not guarantee the same results in real conditions.
For context, Honda’s listed MSRP is not a complete head-to-head cost comparison, and the fuel-card maximum is not the same as a guaranteed savings figure. Compare the actual lease offer and your access to energy before deciding between this, a conventional hybrid CR-V and a battery-electric vehicle.
Does the CR-V e:FCEV qualify for a California carpool sticker?
The California Air Resources Board’s eligible carpool-sticker list includes the Honda CR-V e:FCEV as a hydrogen ZEV. That listing does not mean a sticker or any particular access benefit is automatic; check the current program rules and vehicle eligibility with CARB. CARB’s eligible carpool sticker list is the relevant official reference.
