Honda says its controlled-flex body structure is designed to manage tire loads in corners, but it has not confirmed that this specific chassis approach will appear in every next-generation hybrid launching from 2027. The technology has been described for Honda 0 Series electric vehicles; the 2027 date comes from a separate hybrid-platform announcement. No instrumented tests of a 2027 production car establish a handling or performance gain yet.
What Honda means by a flexible chassis
In an October 9, 2024 announcement about technologies for the Honda 0 Series, Honda described a body-rigidity management approach using what it calls a steering stability index. The stated aim is to allow controlled body flex to manage the load on each tire while cornering. It is not a claim that the body should flex without control: Honda presents the flexibility as part of an engineered response intended to help maintain tire loading.
That is different from simply making a vehicle as rigid as possible. In a 2024 Honda interview, the engineers characterized the development direction as moving away from a highly rigid, stiff design toward more relaxed, flexible chassis rigidity. The public explanation describes the intended strategy, but does not provide an independently measured figure for cornering grip, steering response, ride comfort, or lap time.
What is actually scheduled for 2027?
Honda’s May 14, 2026 business briefing says next-generation hybrid models using both a new hybrid system and a new platform are scheduled to begin launching in 2027. Honda also set out a plan for 15 next-generation hybrid models globally by the fiscal year ending March 31, 2030, with the lineup primarily aimed at North America.

That announcement establishes the timing and scope of Honda’s hybrid program, not the fitment of the 0 Series body-flex design. The public announcements described here do not say that every new hybrid—or any named Civic, CR-V, or Pilot—will use that exact chassis approach. The 0 Series chassis description and the hybrid launch plan should therefore be treated as related Honda development news, not confirmation that they are the same platform technology.
What benefits has Honda claimed?
Weight reduction
Honda says its simplified body structure contributes to an overall weight reduction of approximately 100 kg (220 pounds) compared with its initial EVs. This is Honda’s comparison for the 0 Series development; it is not an independently measured result for a 2027 hybrid, and Honda does not attribute that entire reduction to chassis flex alone.

Fuel economy for future e:HEV models
In its May 20, 2025 business briefing, Honda set a target of improving fuel economy by more than 10% for next-generation e:HEV models. Honda associated that target with a combined package of a new hybrid system, next-generation platform, and electric all-wheel drive. It does not isolate flexible body rigidity as the source of the improvement.
Handling impressions
A Honda-published 2024 interview reports prototype drivers describing the vehicle as “very nimble and natural, and the handling is very predictable.” Honda attributes the dynamics discussion to Tatsuya Mori of its Automobile Development Center, Automobile Business. This is reported subjective feedback from prototype driving—not a controlled comparison or a production-car performance statistic.

What the evidence does—and does not—show
New Atlas’s November 11, 2025 coverage described potential benefits such as tire contact, steering feedback, comfort, and reduced understeer. Those are reported claims about possible effects, not independently demonstrated outcomes. The sources cited here do not establish instrumented comparison results for a 2027 production vehicle, such as measured grip, stopping distance, ride performance, or lap time.
It is reasonable to infer that managing tire loads could influence cornering behavior, since tire loading is relevant to how a car responds in a turn. But the real-world size and character of any effect depend on the complete vehicle and would need to be assessed in production form. Until comparable independent testing is available, claims that this chassis “revolutionizes” performance should be understood as speculation rather than a proven result.

How to read Honda’s 2027 claims
- Confirmed: Honda has described controlled body flex and tire-load management for the Honda 0 Series EV development.
- Separately confirmed: Honda plans to begin launching next-generation hybrids with a new system and platform in 2027.
- Not established: That all 2027 hybrids, or specific named Honda models, will use the 0 Series chassis design.
- Not yet demonstrated in the cited material: A quantified production-car improvement in handling, comfort, efficiency, or lap time caused by chassis flexibility.
